Targeting proteasome enhances anticancer activity of oncolytic HSV-1 in colorectal cancer.

Herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1) has been widely used to treat various cancers, but its efficacy is limited. Studies indicated that combining HSV-1 and chemotherapy drugs can effectively improve the lethality of HSV-1 in tumor cells, which has a synergistic effect. Here, we explored the oncolytic effect and mechanism of bortezomib and HSV-1 on colorectal cancer cells, HCT116 and Caco-2.

Background: Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) immunoglobulin G (IgG) seropositivity is prevalent but its relation with leukocyte telomere length (LTL), a cellular aging biomarker, is unclear.

Methods: Among 3,472 participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) cycle 1999-2000, LTL was measured with the quantitative polymerase chain reaction. H pylori IgG was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays and defined as seropositivity with an immune status ratio score > 0.

The search for drugs that can facilitate axonal regeneration and elongation following peripheral nerve injury has been an area of increasing interest in recent years. Epothilone B (EpoB) is an FDA-approved antineoplastic agent, which shows the capacity to induce α-tubulin polymerization and to improve the stability of microtubules. Recently, it has been increasingly recognized that EpoB has a regenerative effect in the central nervous system.

Methods: In 126 patients with RA and 102 matched healthy controls, SNPs of miR-146a rs2910164 locus were determined with a high-resolution melting method. The association of such polymorphisms with disease activity score in 28 joints (DAS28) and clinical features of RA was assessed.
