Purpose: Aimed to create a nomogram using clinical and eye-specific metrics to predict the efficacy of intravenous glucocorticoid (IVGC) therapy in patients with active and moderate-to-severe Thyroid-Associated Ophthalmopathy (TAO).

Methods: This study was conducted on 84 eyes from 42 moderate-to-severe TAO patients who received systemic IVGC therapy, and 42 eyes from 21 controls. Data were collected retrospectively from June 2020 to December 2021.

Background: Rhinitis is a complex condition characterized by various subtypes, including allergic rhinitis (AR), which involves inflammatory reactions. The objective of this research was to identify crucial genes associated with inflammatory response that are relevant for the treatment and diagnosis of AR.

Methods: We acquired the AR-related expression datasets (GSE75011 and GSE50223) from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database.

Exercise stress can cause reversible myocardial ischemia in people with coronary artery disease (CAD). On the other hand, the new troponin biomarker with high sensitivity can detect faster and small amounts of troponin in blood circulation. The present study aimed to investigate the serum troponin level following exercise stress and the result of nuclear heart scans as the gold standard.

The anti-cancer activities of the compounds were evaluated against KYSE-150, KYSE-30, and KYSE-270 cell lines and also on investigated esophageal line HET 1 A as a standard. Modified inhibitory impact on enzymes of collagenase and elastase were used Thring and Moon methods, respectively. Among both compounds, both of them recorded impact on cancer cells being neutral against the control, both had IC50 lower than 100 µM and acted as a potential anticancer drug.

A retrospective cohort study to explore the clinical efficacy and safety evaluation of calcitriol combined with bisphosphonates in the therapy of postmenopausal osteoporosis is conducted. The postmenopausal osteoporosis sufferers admitted to our hospital from January 2020 to June 2021 are retrospectively collected and divided into a contrast set and a study set, with 60 cases in each set. For the contrast set, all sufferers are treated with bisphosphonates.

Accumulating evidence has shown that H6 Family Homeobox 3 (HMX3) plays a crucial role in nervous system regulation. However, the regulatory mechanism of HMX3 in colorectal cancer (CRC) has seldom been studied. Herein, HMX3 was significantly downregulated in CRC, as demonstrated by qRT-PCR and WB analysis on clinical samples and a panel of cell lines.

Osteomyelitis is an acute or chronic inflammatory bone disease with a high disability rate. As an anti-inflammatory factor, peroxisome proliferator activated receptor-γ (PPAR-γ) is not only implicated in a variety of inflammatory responses but also regulates osteoblast differentiation and bone mass. However, the role of PPAR-γ in osteomyelitis is not fully understood.

The study focused on the dual-source computed tomography (CT) images segmented by the decision tree algorithm, to explore the efficacy of docetaxel combined with fluorouracil therapy on gastric patients undergoing chemotherapy. In this study, 98 patients with gastric cancer who were treated in the hospital were selected as the research subjects. The decision tree algorithm was applied to segment dual-source CT images of gastric cancer patients.

Due to their excellent mechanical properties and good biocompatibility, titanium alloys have become a popular research topic in the field of medical metal implants. However, the surface of the titanium alloy does not exhibit biological activity, which may cause poor integration between the interface of the titanium implant and the interface of the bone tissue and subsequently may cause the implant to fall off. Therefore, surface biological inertness is one of the problems that titanium alloys must overcome to become an ideal orthopedic implant material.

The development of multidrug resistance (MDR) is a commonly observed phenomenon in many cancer types. It contributed significantly to the poor outcome of many currently available chemotherapies. Considering autophagy as one of the most important physiological process in cancer progression, we thereby proposed an anti-autophagy siRNA and doxorubicin (Dox) co-delivery system (MC/D-siR) to combat MDR breast cancer using sequential construction.

Comparison of unilateral and bilateral puncture percutaneous kyphoplasty in the treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures.

Neurosciences (Riyadh)

July 2021

From the Department of Orthopedics (Zhang, Wang, Kang), Huai'an People's Hospital Of Hongze district, Huai'an, and from the Department of Orthopedics (Zhao, Ma), Dafeng People's Hospital, Yancheng, Jiangsu, China.

Objectives: To compare the clinical efficacy of unilateral and bilateral puncture PKP in the treatment of OVCFs and explored whether there is a difference in the efficacy of unilateral and bilateral puncture PKP after surgery.

Methods: A total of 98 patients with OVCFs treated by PKP from August 2016 to June 2018 were selected. There were 62 cases in the unilateral puncture group and 36 cases in the bilateral puncture group.

A new three-dimensional lanthanide metal-organic framework (Ln-MOF), [Eu(L)(HO)]·10HO (1, HL = biphenyl-3'-nitro-3,4',5-tricarboxylic acid), has been constructed via solvothermal technology and its framework has been detected by the single-crystal X-ray diffraction and elemental analyses. Complex 1 with typical emission of Eu ion represents dramatic luminescence quenching affect for picric acid (PA) and the linear Stern-Volmer plot was surveyed in the consistence, ranging from 0.05 to 0.

Department of Medical Oncology, Huai'an First People's Hospital, Nanjing Medical University, Huai'an City, Jiangsu Province 223300, China.

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are a large class of endogenous noncoding RNAs that regulate gene expression and mainly function as microRNA sponges. This study aimed to explore the aberrant expression of circRNAs in colorectal cancer (CRC). Using a circRNA microarray, we identified 892 differentially expressed circRNAs between six pairs of CRC and adjacent paracancerous tissues.

Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been reported to take part in intracellular RNA regulatory networks and play important roles in a lot of pathological processes. Currently, lncRNA X-inactive specific transcript (XIST) has been proved to regulate cell migration, proliferation, and apoptosis in a series of cancers. In this study, we explored whether XIST can affect cell proliferation, migration, and apoptosis in bladder cancer.
