Exploring the genetic and socioeconomic interplay between ADHD and anxiety disorders using Mendelian randomization.

Background: ADHD and anxiety disorders often co-occur, sharing symptoms and dysfunctions, yet the underlying mechanisms remain elusive.

Methods: To explore the shared and distinct genetic variations between ADHD and anxiety disorders, we applied Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to ADHD, anxiety disorders, and three socioeconomic factors: income, educational attainment (EA), and intelligence. MR analysis utilized genome-wide association study summary datasets (anxiety disorder: 7,016 cases and 14,745 controls; ADHD: 38,691 cases and 275,986 controls; EA: 766,345 participants; intelligence: 146,808 participants; household income: 392,422 participants), with inverse-variance weighting as the primary method.

Clinical significance of platelet mononuclear cell aggregates in patients with sepsis and acute respiratory distress syndrome.

Background: The diagnosis of sepsis combined with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) has increased owing to the enhanced awareness among medical professionals and the continuous development of modern medical technologies, while early diagnosis of ARDS still lacks specific biomarkers. One of the main pathogenic mechanisms of sepsis-associated ARDS involves the actions of various pathological injuries and inflammatory factors, such as platelet and white blood cells activation, leading to an increase of surface adhesion molecules. These adhesion molecules further form platelet-white blood cell aggregates, including platelet-mononuclear cell aggregates (PMAs).

Combined fine-needle aspiration and selective intraoperative frozen section to optimize prediction of malignant thyroid nodules: A retrospective cohort study of more than 3000 patients.

Background: Preoperative fine-needle aspiration (FNA) is widely used to differentiate malignant from benign thyroid nodules, while intraoperative frozen sections (FS) are suggested as a systematic supplement for intraoperative decision-making, but limitations still remain for both procedures.

Methods: Medical records of 3807 patients with thyroid nodules who underwent both pathological diagnoses (FS and FNA) at our hospital were reviewed. The diagnostic accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV) of FNA and FS were also evaluated.

Background: Marine fishermen experience high levels of environmental and relationship stress and anxiety. The current study explored the role of stress in the relationship between neuroticism and anxiety symptoms among marine fishermen.

Materials And Methods: Participants (fishermen from Tanmen in Qionghai city, Hainan Province) completed three questionnaires: the NEO-Five-Factor Inventory-Neuroticism Subscale (NEO-FFI-N); the Mental Stressor Investigation Questionnaire (MSIQ); and the Mood and Anxiety Symptoms Questionnaire-30-item-Anxious Arousal Subscale (MASQ-D30-AA) within 1 week before embarking on a fishing trip and then again within 1 week after their return to port.

We searched PubMed, EMbase, Web of science, EBSCO, and Cochrane library databases through October 2018 for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing the effect of galcanezumab versus placebo for patients with migraine.

Alteration of Brain Functional Connectivity in Parkinson's Disease Patients with Dysphagia.

Dysphagia is a common non-primary symptom of patients with Parkinson's disease. The aim of this study is to investigate the underlying alterations of brain functional connectivity in Parkinson's disease patients with dysphagia by resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging. We recruited 13 Parkinson's disease patients with dysphagia and ten patients without dysphagia, diagnosed by videofluoroscopic study of swallowing.

A Randomized, 8-Week Study of the Effects of Extended-Release Paliperidone and Olanzapine on Heart Rate Variability in Patients With Schizophrenia.

Purpose: This study aimed to explore the effect of extended-release paliperidone (paliperidone ER) and olanzapine on heart rate variability (HRV) in patients with schizophrenia.

Methods: A total of 106 patients with schizophrenia diagnosed by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (Fifth Edition) were randomly divided into the paliperidone ER group or the olanzapine group for an 8-week clinical trial, with 53 patients in each group. The time domain and frequency domain analyses including the SD of all the R-R intervals in 24 hours (SDNN), the SD of the mean value of all the normal R-R intervals in every 5-minute interval within 24 hours (SDANN index), the mean value of the SD of all the normal R-R intervals in every 5-minute interval within 24 hours (SDNN index), the root mean square of successive R-R differences, the percentage of adjacent R-R intervals that differ by more than 50 milliseconds, high-frequency power (HF), low-frequency power (LF), and LF/HF were adopted to assess the HRV of patients at baseline and after treatment for 8 weeks in each group.

MiR-182 enhances radioresistance in non-small cell lung cancer cells by regulating FOXO3.

Upregulated in lung cancer, miRNA-182 was found to be related to cancer proliferation and chemoresistance. However, there is no report on the role of miR-182 in radioresistance, which is a main obstacle of radiotherapy. In this study, we aim to depict the effect of miR-182 inhibition on cellular sensitivity to ionizing radiation.

According to the admission queue, the patients were randomly assigned into channel group (26 cases) or traditional group (22 cases).

Prevalence and clinical correlation of dysphagia in Parkinson disease: a study on Chinese patients.

Background/objectives: Dysphagia is relatively common in patients with Parkinson disease (PD) and can have a negative impact on their quality of life; therefore, it is imperative that its prevalence in PD patients is studied. The aim of this study was to explore the prevalence and clinical correlation of dysphagia in Chinese PD patients.

Schwannomas are mesenchymal neoplasms with a low malignant potential, which arise from Schwann cells. The tumors can occur in most parts of the body; however, the head, neck and flexor surfaces of the extremities are the most common locations. Schwannomas occurring in the hepatoduodenal ligament are extremely rare.

The study aimed to assess the diagnostic value of high-resolution ultrasonography (HR-US) in the detection of anterior disc displacement (ADD) of the temporomandibular joint. Relevant trials reported in MEDLINE, the Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure Database, the Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, and Embase were identified. A manual search was also performed.

Objective: To explore the clinical effects of proximal femur intramedullary nail (PFNA) in treating intertrochanteric fracture in elderly patients.

Methods: From January,2008 to December,2010,the data of 86 elderly patients (aged, 80 to 93 years) with intertrochanteric fracture who underwent internal fixation were retrospectively analyzed. Of them, 54 patients (22 males and 32 females) were treated with close reduction and PFNA internal fixation(PFNA group),and 32 patients (12 males and 20 females) were treated with open reduction and nail-plate internal fixation (control group).
