Kerion refers to the severe inflammatory reaction which occurs in some cases of fungal infection of the hair or hair follicles. Successful treatment is a challenge for the small number of kerion patients who show poor efficacy of oral antifungal agents. In recent years, photodynamic therapy (PDT) has been proven to be a useful treatment for a variety of fungal infections.

Objectives: The mechanism behind spinal metabolites and myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (IR) injury is not well understood. Proton magnetic resonance spectroscopic analysis of spinal cord extracts provides a quick evaluation of the specific metabolic activity in rats with myocardial IR injury. We investigated the relationship between the IR-related variables and the changes in spinal metabolites.

Objective: To investigate the effect of miRNA-182 on cardiomyocyte apoptosis of heart failure (HF).

Materials And Methods: HF model in rats was established by rapid ventricular pacing. AAV-miRNA-182 (adeno-associated virus) vector was constructed to upregulate miRNA-182 level and its negative control AAV-NC was prepared.

Effect of thrombin injection on cerebral vascular in rats with subarachnoid hemorrhage.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of thrombin (TM) injection via the cerebellomedullary cistern on cerebral vessels in rats with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH).

Methods: Eighteen rats were randomly divided into three groups. In the A1 group, physiological saline was injected via the cerebellomedullary cistern; in the A2 group, 3 U of TM was injected into the subarachnoid space; and in the A3 group, SAH models were established and 3 U of TM was injected with the first injection of whole blood.

Successful intravenous Alteplase for a centenarian woman with acute ischaemic stroke.

We report a case of a 105-year-old woman who was treated with Alteplase for acute ischaemic stroke (AIS). On arrival, this centenarian woman had sudden-onset aphasia and right-sided hemiparesis, her baseline National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score was 21. Due to insufficient quantitative evaluation of the clinic-pathological features and prognosis of young colorectal cancer (CRC) with mucinous adenocarcinoma (MAC) and signet-ring cell carcinoma (SRC), the aim of our study was to develop a nomogram to identify the prognostic predictors for overall survival (OS) in this patient population. Sofosbuvir-velpatasvir for treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus infection in Asia: a single-arm, open-label, phase 3 trial.

Background: Treatment with combined sofosbuvir and velpatasvir has resulted in high sustained virological response rates in patients chronically infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV) with genotypes 1-6 in clinical trials and real-world settings, but its efficacy and safety has not been assessed in Asia, a region with diverse HCV genotypes.

Methods: In this single-arm, open-label, phase 3 trial, we recruited patients from 38 sites across China, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, and Malaysia, who were chronically infected with HCV genotypes 1-6, and were HCV treatment-naive or treatment-experienced, either without cirrhosis or with compensated cirrhosis. Patients self-administered a combined sofosbuvir (400 mg) and velpatasvir (100 mg) tablet once daily for 12 weeks.

This work compared the incidence of significant carotid stenosis between intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) and two-dimensional conventional radiotherapy (2D-RT) for NPC and explored the risk factors. We retrospectively reviewed 233 cases with NPC who underwent carotid ultrasound post IMRT or 2D-RT from 2006 to 2015.

The canonical Wnt-β-catenin signaling pathway arrests the differentiation of T cells and plays an important role in phenotypic maintenance of naive T cells and stem cell-like memory T cells in human peripheral blood, but its effect on tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) from non-small cell lung cancer is little known. In this study, we showed that glycogen synthase kinase-3β inhibitor TWS119 has different effects on CD4 and CD8 T cells in TILs. TWS119 preserved the expansion of naive T cell and CD8 stem cell-like memory T cells, and induced CD8 effector T-cell proliferation in TILs.

A case report of Rosai-Dorfman disease with kidney involvement.

Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD) is a rare histiocytic disorder of unclear etiology, which commonly presented with the enlargement of lymph nodes of the neck and the head. Here, we report an unusual case of 77-year-old male patient presenting with left kidney lesion with several small enlarged lymph nodes around the abdominal aorta. The diagnosis of left kidney cancer was suspected and the patient underwent left laparoscopic exploration and lymph node biopsy.
