Article Synopsis
  • Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) is a harmful bacteria that can infect both humans and animals, necessitating a better understanding of its genetic variants to prevent cross-species transmission.
  • A genome-wide association study (GWAS) revealed six significant genetic markers (k-mers) that help distinguish S. aureus strains from humans and pigs, achieving a high accuracy rate of 98.12%.
  • The study indicates a high risk of transmission between species, with 90% of S. aureus isolated from farm workers traced back to livestock, and highlights differing transmission pathways from humans to pigs and vice versa.

To explore the potential evidence of active peripheral nerve necrosis when n-hexane produces toxic effects on peripheral nerves. In May 2023, 36 SPF grade SD male rats with a body weight of 200-220 g were divided into 4 groups with 9 rats in each group and given normal saline and different doses of n-hexane (168, 675, 2 700 mg/kg) by gavage for 6 consecutive weeks (5 days/week). Three rats in each group were killed at the 2nd, 4th and 6th week, respectively.

Intestinal ischemia-reperfusion (IR) injury is a common gastrointestinal disease that induces severe intestinal dysfunction. Intestinal myenteric neurons participate in maintaining the intestinal function, which will be severely injured by IR. Macrophages are widely reported to be involved in the pathogenesis of organ IR injury, including intestine, which is activated by NLRP3 signaling.

Background: The super-thin skin flap formed by skin and soft tissue expansion has large area and good ductility, so it can be used to repair skin defects. However, because the flap is thin, the blood flow in the dermis of the super-thin expanded flap is weakened, and flap rupture and necrosis after secondary flap transfer may occur.

Objective: To compare the skin thickness difference between the expanded ultrathin flaps injected with concentrated growth factor (CGF) and the blank group or saline group.

Three new meroterpenoids (1-3) and ten known ones (4-13) were obtained from the endophytic fungus Talaromyces primulinus H21 isolated from the plant of Euphorbia sikkimensis. Their structures including their absolute configurations were elucidated by extensive analysis of spectroscopic data such as HR-ESI-MS, 1D/2D NMR, and X-ray diffraction of single crystal together with comparison of experimental ECD with calculated ECD. All compounds were examined for their inhibitory effects on nitric oxide (NO) production induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in RAW264.

Background: The rising prevalence and limited efficacy of treatments for pre-extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis (pre-XDR-TB) underscore an immediate need for innovative therapeutic options. A combination of host-directed therapy (HDT) and anti-TB treatment presents a viable alternative for pre-XDR-TB management. Sulfasalazine (SASP), by targeting the amino acid transport system xc (xCT), potentially reduces the intracellular Mycobacterium tuberculosis load and mitigates lung pathology, positioning it as a promising TB HDT agent.

Background: Dual regimen dolutegravir (DTG) plus lamivudine (3TC) has demonstrated non-inferior efficacy compared to DTG-based three-drug regimens (3DRs), yet directly comparative data regarding the efficacy and safety of DTG + 3TC and bictegravir/emtricitabine/tenofovir alafenamide (B/F/TAF) for therapy-naïve people with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-1 (PWH) are still limited. We aimed to assess the antiviral potency and safety profiles of DTG + 3TC vs. B/F/TAF based on antiretroviral therapy (ART)-naïve PWH in China.
