Study Objectives: Physicians-in-training (residents, fellows) and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) receive limited education on sleep disorders, including obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). They often assess patients first. We aimed to understand their views on OSA and screening for OSA in the perioperative period.

Transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) simulations may provide insight into this novel therapeutic technology and help optimize its use. However, because of the relatively short history and technical complexity of TEER simulations, important questions remain unanswered. For example, there is no consensus on how to handle the annular boundary conditions in these simulations.

Objective: To identify risk factors for clinically-important drowning-associated lung injury (ciDALI) in children.

Study Design: This was a cross-sectional study of children (0 through 18 years) who presented to 32 pediatric emergency departments (EDs) from 2010 through 2017. We reviewed demographics, comorbidities, prehospital data, chest radiographs reports, and ED course from emergency medical services, medical, and fatality records.

Fatty acid binding protein 4 (FABP4) is highly expressed in adipocytes. Lipolysis, caused by an elevated adrenergic input, has been suggested to contribute to elevated serum FABP4 levels in patients with cardiovascular diseases. However, the relationship between the serum FABP4 and efferent sympathetic nerve activity remains poorly understood.

Background: Immunoglobulin G antibodies (Abs) to platelet factor 4 (PF4) complexed to heparin (PF4/H) commonly occur after H exposure but cause life-threatening complications of H-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) in only a few patients. Presently, only platelet activation assays reliably distinguish anti-PF4/H Abs that cause disease (HIT Abs) from those likely to be asymptomatic (AAbs).

Background: There is considerable heterogeneity in fine particulate matter (PM)-mortality associations between studies, potentially due to differences in exposure assessment methods. Our aim was to evaluate associations of PM predicted from different models with nonaccidental and cause-specific mortality.

Methods: We followed 107,906 participants of the Nurses' Health Study cohort from 2001 to 2016.

Unlabelled: Although evidence-based treatments for Prolonged Grief Disorder (PGD) exist, pretreatment characteristics associated with differential improvement trajectories have not been identified. To identify clinical factors relevant to optimizing PGD treatment outcomes, we used unsupervised and supervised machine learning to study treatment effects from a double-blinded, placebo-controlled, randomized clinical trial. Participants were randomized into four treatment groups for 20 weeks: citalopram with grief-informed clinical management, citalopram with prolonged grief disorder therapy (PGDT), pill placebo with PGDT, or pill placebo with clinical management.

Introduction: The clinical, research and advocacy communities for Rett syndrome are striving to achieve clinical trial readiness, including having fit-for-purpose clinical outcome assessments. This study aimed to (1) describe psychometric properties of clinical outcome assessment for Rett syndrome and (2) identify what is needed to ensure that fit-for-purpose clinical outcome assessments are available for clinical trials.

Methods: Clinical outcome assessments for the top 10 priority domains identified in the Voice of the Patient Report for Rett syndrome were compiled and available psychometric data were extracted.

We used our mouse papillomavirus (MmuPV1) model to test the hypothesis that two primary psychoactive ingredients of marijuana, Δ-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD), promote papillomavirus persistence in the oral mucosa of infected mice. We conducted intraperitoneal (ip) injections of a moderate dose (3 mg/kg) of either CBD and/or THC in both male and female athymic nude mice and followed the mice up to 20 weeks post-infection. Our recent studies have identified a link between sphingolipid metabolites and the induction of a specialized form of regulated cell death termed immunogenic cell death (ICD). We have recently demonstrated that the synthetic cannabinoid (±) 5-epi CP 55,940 (5-epi) stimulates the accumulation of ceramide (Cer), and that inhibition of sphingosine kinase 1 (SphK1) enhances Cer accumulation and ICD-induction in human colorectal cancer (CRC) cell lines. We employed flow-cytometric, western blot analyses, pharmacological inhibitors of the sphingolipid metabolic pathway and small molecule agonists and antagonists of the CB receptors to further analyze the mechanism by which 5-epi induces Cer accumulation.
