An example of chemotherapy-induced cardiotoxicity in cancer survivors is acquired long QT syndrome (aLQTS), which may cause serious yet preventable life-threatening consequences. Our objective was to identify and characterize childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) survivors with possible aLQTS using maximal exercise testing. In this cross-sectional study with exploratory analysis, a total of 250 childhood ALL survivors were evaluated for abnormal QT interval prolongation using the McMaster cycle exercise test.

The data generated by Paul et al. provide new insights and perspectives on the current support services offered for families of pediatric cancer survivors All family members of a child who has been diagnosed with cancer are also affected by the diagnosis and should receive support. Involving parents and siblings in clinical care and research is a step in the right direction to address these gaps.

Introduction: Integration of exercise into standard oncology care requires a highly skilled workforce of exercise professionals; however, competency requirements have not kept pace with advancements in the field. Therefore, the aim of this study was to obtain consensus on core competencies required for an exercise professional to be qualified to work with adults undergoing active cancer treatment.

Materials And Methods: A three-round modified electronic Delphi process was used.

Purpose We aimed to document the acceptability (enrollment rate) and feasibility (phone call delivery rate) of implementing a behavioral PA intervention over 12 weeks, in addition to documenting its effects on patient-reported outcomes and physical functioning. This study also describes the costs of carrying out a behavioral PA intervention. A total of 40 participants were randomized in a 1:1 ratio.

Article Synopsis
  • - The ongoing phase II trial (NCT03363217) is investigating the effects of trametinib on pediatric low-grade gliomas (PLGG) and plexiform neurofibromas (PN), showing promising clinical responses and good tolerance in most patients.
  • - Neurocognitive assessments were conducted on 36 patients with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) before and after 72 weeks of trametinib treatment, revealing stable group performance but significant improvements in specific cognitive areas for some individuals.
  • - The findings suggest that trametinib may have a positive impact on cognitive functioning in NF1 patients, particularly enhancing processing speed, visuo-motor skills, and verbal abilities, highlighting the need for neuro

QTc intervals at rest and during exercise assessed by group correction formulas in survivors of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

J Electrocardiol

Laboratory of Pathophysiology of EXercise (LPEX), School of Kinesiology and Physical Activity Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, University of Montreal, Montreal, Quebec, Canada; Sainte-Justine University Health Center, Research Center, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Electronic address:

Introduction: Early signs of subclinical cardiac damage must be identified before they turn into clinical manifestations. Tailoring a formula is relevant for precise QTc evaluation in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) survivors considering they are at risk of long-term cardiac problems. Therefore, we aim to develop group heart rate correction formulas for QT intervals in childhood ALL survivors at rest and during exercise, and to assess the applicability of these methods across a variety of risk groups exposed to diverse chemotherapy dosages.

Objectives: With this study, we aim to describe transgender and nonbinary adolescents and young adults' stated gender treatment goals at the time of initial presentation to medical care.

Methods: This is a retrospective chart review of transgender and nonbinary patients aged 10 to 24 seeking specific gender-affirming health care. Charts were reviewed for specifically stated goals of future hormonal or surgical care for gender and analyzed by the experienced or asserted gender (man, woman, nonbinary, eclectic) of participants.

Background: Long term survivors of childhood cancer have a high prevalence of chronic pain. Novel, multidisciplinary approaches to manage pain, are needed to allow for a reduction in the use of opioids for pain management. Physical activity is highly effective in managing chronic pain in children and adolescents, however, evidence about the combination of physical activity intervention and pain medications in chronic pain management in childhood cancer survivors is lacking.

Purpose: This scoping review describes the assessment methodologies for physical activity (PA) and physical fitness assessments used in studies focusing on adolescents and young adults (AYAs) diagnosed with cancer.

Methods: A search of the literature was conducted in PubMed, CINAHL, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library following the PRISMA-ScR statement. A total of 34 studies were included in this review.

Purpose: Metastatic breast cancer (MBC) patients are living longer at the cost of several side effects, affecting their physical and mental health. Physical activity can help women with MBC to improve their wellbeing. Technology-based exercise interventions have shown promising outcomes; however, studies that document their benefits on health behaviors are lacking.

Multi-Omic Factors Associated with Frequency of Upper Respiratory Infections in Developing Infants.

Int J Mol Sci

January 2023

Pennsylvania State Health Children's Hospital, Department of Pediatrics, 500 University Drive, Hershey, PA 17033, USA.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how factors from the host (infant), microbes, and environment might affect the frequency of upper respiratory infections (URIs) in infants.
  • Researchers analyzed saliva from 146 infants at 6 months old, measuring various biological components like cytokines and microbial RNA to find correlations with URI occurrences in their first year.
  • Key findings linked URI frequency to environmental conditions (like daycare and air pollution), specific microbial presence, and molecular indicators from the infants, suggesting new ways to understand or manage URI risks in babies if confirmed in larger studies.

Background: The pathophysiology of wheezing is multifactorial, impacted by medical, demographic, environmental, and immunologic factors. We hypothesized that multi-omic analyses of host and microbial factors in saliva would enhance the ability to identify infants at risk for wheezing.

Methods: This longitudinal cohort study included 161 term infants.

Background: The pathophysiology of atopic dermatitis (AD) is multifactorial, impacted by individual medical, demographic, environmental, and immunologic factors. This study used multi-omic analyses to assess how host and microbial factors could contribute to infant AD development.

Methods: This longitudinal cohort study included 129 term infants, identified as AD (n = 37) or non-AD (n = 92) using the Infant Feeding Practices-II survey and review of medical records.

Background: Pancreatic digestive enzymes present in meconium might be responsible for meconium-induced lung injury. The local Renin Angiotensin System plays an important role in lung injury and inflammation. Particularly, angiotensin converting enzyme-2 (ACE-2) has been identified as a protective lung enzyme against the insult.
