Background & Aims: Mood disorders and disorders of gut-brain interaction (DGBI) are highly prevalent, commonly comorbid, and lack fully effective therapies. Although selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are first-line pharmacological treatments for these disorders, they may impart adverse effects, including anxiety, anhedonia, dysmotility, and, in children exposed in utero, an increased risk of cognitive, mood, and gastrointestinal disorders. SSRIs act systemically to block the serotonin reuptake transporter and enhance serotonergic signaling in the brain, intestinal epithelium, and enteric neurons.

Objective: Compare the effectiveness of instructional videos with print handouts when educating family medicine patients about the use of herbs and spices to reduce sodium, saturated fat, and added sugars during meal preparation.
Design: Enrollees were randomized to either view 5 short videos or read 3 handouts. The intervention was implemented while patients waited for their provider to begin their appointment.

Sulfonamides are associated with severe cutaneous adverse reactions (SCARs). Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) triggers an immune response, which may increase the likelihood of developing a hypersensitivity reaction. We sought to explore the impact of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection on the probability of developing SCARs and/or erythema multiforme (EM) reactions to sulfonamides.

The lack of a permissive cell culture system has limited high-resolution structures of parvovirus B19 (B19V) to virus-like particles (VLPs). In this study, we present the atomic resolution structure (2.2 Å) of authentic B19V purified from a patient blood sample.

Challenging behaviors in young children with autism and intellectual disabilities pose significant barriers to learning and inclusion. The Prevent-Teach-Reinforce for Young Children (PTR-YC) program is an evidence-based intervention that addresses these behaviors according to Positive Behavior Intervention Support principles. It is essential to assess the social validity of an intervention, when implemented into a public service system, to ensure sustainability and relevance to stakeholders.

Intestinal epithelial tight junctions (TJs), a dynamically regulated barrier structure composed of occludin and claudin family of proteins, mediate the interaction between the host and the external environment by allowing selective paracellular permeability between the luminal and serosal compartments of the intestine. TJs are highly dynamic structures and can undergo constant architectural remodeling in response to various external stimuli. This is mediated by an array of intracellular signaling pathways that alters TJ protein expression and localization.

The demand for meat and seafood products has been globally increasing for decades. To address the environmental, social, and economic impacts of this trend, there has been a surge in the development of three-dimensional (3D) food bioprinting technologies for lab-grown muscle food products and their analogues. This innovative approach is a sustainable solution to mitigate the environmental risks associated with climate change caused by the negative impacts of indiscriminative livestock production and industrial aquaculture.

Objectives: To identify limitations of abortion data in national Medicaid claims files by comparing abortion counts in Medicaid claims data with state abortion estimates.
Study Design: We used procedure (Current Procedural Terminology/Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System) and drug (National Drug Code) codes to identify abortion claims in 2009 and 2010 Medicaid Analytic eXtract (MAX) and 2020 Transformed Medicaid Statistical Information System Analytic File (TAF) data. We compared the number of abortions in MAX and TAF to the number of expected abortions covered by Medicaid overall and by state.

Background: The Chronic Hypertension and Pregnancy Study demonstrated that a target blood pressure of <140/90 mm Hg during pregnancy is associated with improved perinatal outcomes. Outside of pregnancy, pharmacologic therapy for patients with diabetes and hypertension is adjusted to a target blood pressure of <130/80 mm Hg. During pregnancy, patients with both diabetes and chronic hypertension may also benefit from tighter control with a target blood pressure <130/80 mm Hg.

The severity of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) may be linked to host genetic susceptibility. Surfactant protein (SP) genetic variants have been associated with RSV severity, but the impact of single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP)-SNP interactions remains unexplored. Therefore, we used a novel statistical model to investigate the association of SNP-SNP interactions of genes with RSV severity in two- and three-interaction models.

Background: MRI fusion prostate biopsy has improved the detection of clinically significant prostate cancer (CSC). Continued refinements in predicting the pre-biopsy probability of CSC are essential for optimal patient counseling. We investigated potential factors related to improved cancer detection rates (CDR) of CSC in patients with PI-RADS ≥ 3 lesions.

Previous research suggests that the neural processes underlying specification of movement direction and amplitude are independently represented in the nervous system. However, our understanding of acquisition and consolidation processes in the direction and distance learning remains limited. We designed a virtual air hockey task, in which the puck direction is determined by the hand direction at impact, while the puck distance is determined by the amplitude of the velocity.

Previous meta-analyses have shown that client-rated working alliance is negatively correlated with attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance. The purpose of this study is to provide an updated meta-analysis of the relation between alliance and the two dimensions of attachment insecurity. Random effects models were used to examine the relation between the working alliance and attachment anxiety and the relation between the working alliance and attachment avoidance.

A 76-year-old man with a history of malignant pleural mesothelioma treated with pembrolizumab underwent FDG-PET/CT for restaging. The images demonstrated FDG uptake overlying the right hepatic and splenic artery, which were new from the previous FDG-PET/CT 2.5 years prior before the patient started pembrolizumab, suspicious for vasculitis.

Cell aggregates are widely used to study heterotypic cellular interactions during the development of vascularization . In this study, we examined heterotypic cellular spheroids made of adipose-derived stem cells and CD34/CD31 endothelial progenitor cells induced by the transfection of miR-148b mimic for induction of osteogenic differentiation and miR-210 mimic for induction of endotheliogenesis, respectively. The effect of the microRNA (miRs) mimic treatment group and induction time on codifferentiation was assessed in spheroids formed of transfected cells over the course of a 4-week culture.

Background Low-level light therapy (LLLT) has been shown to modulate recovery in patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI). However, the impact of LLLT on the functional connectivity of the brain when at rest has not been well studied. Purpose To use functional MRI to assess the effect of LLLT on whole-brain resting-state functional connectivity (RSFC) in patients with moderate TBI at acute (within 1 week), subacute (2-3 weeks), and late-subacute (3 months) recovery phases.
