Bipolar disorder often begins in adolescence or early adulthood, characterized by recurrent manic episodes that can lead to neurodegenerative brain changes and functional decline. While several oral second-generation antipsychotics are Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved for mania, adherence to maintenance treatment is frequently poor due to factors such as anosognosia, cognitive dysfunction, impulsivity, side effects aversion, and substance use. Long-acting injectable (LAI) antipsychotics, approved for adults with bipolar mania or schizoaffective disorder (bipolar type), offer a potential solution for adolescents with similar conditions.

The integration of ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT) catalytic paradigms with radical intermediates has transformed the selective functionalization of inert C-H bonds, facilitating the use of nonprecious metal catalysts in demanding transformations. Notably, aerobic C-H carbonylation of methane to acetic acid remains formidable due to the rapid oxidation of methyl radicals, producing undesired C1 oxygenates. We present an iron terpyridine catalyst utilizing LMCT to achieve exceptional C2/C1 selectivity through synergistic photoexcitation, methyl radical generation, and carbonylation.

Two skeletally immature female dogs were each investigated for chronic weight-bearing thoracic limb lameness. The first patient was lame for 2 months following a tumble whilst playing, and the second patient had been intermittently lame since 3 weeks of age. In both cases, radiographic examination of the shoulder revealed fissuring of the caudal humeral head consistent with an incomplete proximal humeral Salter-Harris type IV fracture with an Enoki-mushroom-like appearance of the caudal fragment, where two heads rise from a common stem.
