Background: Traditional blood cultures for gram-negative bacteremia can take up to 72 hours or more to return results, prolonging the duration of empiric broad-spectrum intravenous antibiotics. The Accelerate Pheno system provides rapid identification and susceptibilities for blood cultures in gram-negative bacteremia. Current data on its clinical utility are mixed overall, so the system requires further research.

For refractory arthritic pain that fails conservative treatment, total knee arthroplasty (TKA) has been an excellent option. Unfortunately, 15-30% of people who undergo a TKA continue to experience pain and stiffness in the knee.

Background: Silent chronic pancreatitis (SCP) is a poorly understood subtype of chronic pancreatitis (CP) in which individuals describe little to no abdominal pain. The risk factors for SCP are unclear, and it is unknown whether there are differences in the clinical outcomes of SCP and painful CP. We set out to investigate the clinical features of SCP and the risk factors associated with this condition.

Sialic acid-binding immunoglobulin-like lectin 7 (SIGLEC7) is present in various immune cells, especially macrophages, and significantly affects immune homeostasis and cancer cell response. However, research on the role and prognostic impact of SIGLEC7 in glioma patients is currently limited.

Background/objectives: The COVID-19 pandemic period from 2020 to 2022 had a significant impact on maternal infant health with mothers impacted more than their infants. We questioned whether there have been any lingering effects from the pandemic.

Methods: We examined intermediate and long-term pandemic effects on maternal and neonatal outcomes before, during, and after the COVID-19 pandemic period.

Introduction: Limited information exists regarding the association between resident surgical case experience and subsequent case mix in practice. We compare the case log distribution residents completed during their chief year to those completed by these graduates in their first 2 years in independent practice.

Methods: Resident chief year case logs from 10 institutions were analyzed across 4 categories of index procedures: (1) general urology, (2) endourology, (3) reconstructive urology, and (4) urologic oncology.

Continued refinements in predicting the pre-biopsy probability of CSC are essential for optimal patient counseling. We investigated potential factors related to improved cancer detection rates (CDR) of CSC in patients with PI-RADS ≥ 3 lesions.

Metabolic disturbances, increased cardiovascular risk, and sleep deprivation are associated with interrupting circadian rhythms due to routines contributing to physiological and cognitive abnormalities. Additionally, submariners face vitamin deficits of vitamin D and vitamin B12 due to little exposure to sunlight and poor nutrition.

The data generated by Paul et al. provide new insights and perspectives on the current support services offered for families of pediatric cancer survivors All family members of a child who has been diagnosed with cancer are also affected by the diagnosis and should receive support. Involving parents and siblings in clinical care and research is a step in the right direction to address these gaps.

Supraventricular tachycardia diagnosis in asthma patients is associated with adverse health outcomes.

Introduction: Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) can occur during treatment of an acute asthma exacerbation. There are, however, no data on the long-term outcomes of children who are diagnosed with both asthma and SVT. This study aims to analyze the impact of SVT in asthmatic children on mortality and/or cardiac arrest, hypothesizing asthmatic subjects with SVT have increased mortality and/or cardiac arrest compared to asthmatic subject with no-SVT.
