Background: Patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection are at higher risk for ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP). No study has evaluated the relationship between VAP and mortality in this population, or compared this relationship between SARS-CoV-2 patients and other populations. The main objective of our study was to determine the relationship between VAP and mortality in SARS-CoV-2 patients.

Purpose: Although patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection have several risk factors for ventilator-associated lower respiratory tract infections (VA-LRTI), the reported incidence of hospital-acquired infections is low. We aimed to determine the relationship between SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia, as compared to influenza pneumonia or no viral infection, and the incidence of VA-LRTI.

Methods: Multicenter retrospective European cohort performed in 36 ICUs.

Background: Lectures with slide presentations are widely used to teach evidence-based medicine to large groups. Take-home messages (THMs) are poorly identified and recollected by students. We investigated whether an instruction to list THMs in written form on slides would improve the retention thereof by residents, and the residents' level of knowledge, 1 month after lectures.

Background: The use of intensive lipid-lowering therapy by means of statin medications is recommended after transient ischemic attack (TIA) and ischemic stroke of atherosclerotic origin. The target level for low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol to reduce cardiovascular events after stroke has not been well studied.

Methods: In this parallel-group trial conducted in France and South Korea, we randomly assigned patients with ischemic stroke in the previous 3 months or a TIA within the previous 15 days to a target LDL cholesterol level of less than 70 mg per deciliter (1.

Objectives: To compare the assessment of decision-making capacity of ICU patients by attending clinicians (physicians, nurses, and residents) with a capacity score measured by the Mini-Mental Status Examination, completed by Aid to Capacity Evaluation if necessary. The primary outcome was agreement between physicians' assessments and the score. Secondary outcomes were agreement between nurses' or residents' assessments and the score and identification of factors associated with disagreement.

Collaborative retrospective multicentre series of giant intracavernous carotid aneurysms.

Neurochirurgie

December 2015

Department of Neurosurgery, Bocage Central Hospital, Dijon University Hospital, Dijon, France. Electronic address:

Giant intracavernous carotid aneurysms (GICCA) occur with very unusual clinical symptoms often resulting from a compressive mechanism that may possibly resolve although seldom from a rupture or haemorrhage. In fact, due to their clinical presentation their treatment is different from that of the intracranial subarachnoid aneurysms. The aim of this study was to analyze the clinical symptoms, therapeutic decisions, and the clinical state at 6 months follow up in a retrospective consecutive multicentre series of 27 GICCA between 2004 and 2008.

Study of the course of the incidence angle during growth.

Eur Spine J

September 1997

Department of Spine Surgery, Pellegrin Tripode Hospital, Bordeaux, France.

Standing posture is made possible by hip extension and lumbar lordosis. Lumbar lordosis is correlated with pelvic parameters, such as the declivity angle of the upper surface of the sacrum and the incidence angle, which determine the sagittal morphotype. Incidence angle, which is different for each individual, is known to be very important for up-right posture, but its course during life has not yet been established.
