Pan-histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitors can induce the expression of phosphatase and tensin homolog deleted on chromosome 10 (PTEN) protein. However, the underlying mechanism by which this occurs remains unclear. In this study, we show that pan-HDAC inhibitors, including trichostatin A, suberoylanilide hydroxamic acid, and sodium butyrate, were able to induce PTEN mRNA and protein expression via the acetylation of the transcription factor ΔNp63α by inhibiting HDAC1 and HDAC3.

Hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) in the endosteum of mesoderm-derived appendicular bones have been extensively studied. Neural crest-derived bones differ from appendicular bones in developmental origin, mode of bone formation and pathological bone resorption. Whether neural crest-derived bones harbor HSCs is elusive.
