Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a prevalent neurodegenerative disease (ND). In recent years, multiple clinical and animal studies have shown that mitochondrial dysfunction may be involved in the pathogenesis of AD. In addition, short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) produced by intestinal microbiota metabolism have been considered to be important factors affecting central nervous system (CNS) homeostasis.

Department of Forensic Medicine, School of Basic Medical Sciences, Central South University, No172. Tongzipo Road, Changsha, Hunan 410013, People's Republic of China.

DNA mixtures containing semen and vaginal fluid are common biological samples in forensic analysis. However, the analysis of semen-vaginal fluid mixtures remains challenging. In this study, to solve these problems, it is proposed to combine semen-specific CpG sites and closely related microhaplotype sites to form a new composite genetic marker (semen-specific methylation-microhaplotype).

Objective: This study investigated the efficacy of comprehensive management and predictable inflammatory markers for idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis (iRPF)-related hydronephrosis outcomes.

Methods: Patients with iRPF-related hydronephrosis underwent surgical (ureteral stent and/or nephrostomy tube placement) and medical (corticosteroid-based multiple immunosuppressants) management were classified according to stent-indwelling outcomes. Univariate analysis of clinical profiles was conducted to screen possible predictors of hydronephrosis remission.

Ferroptosis is linked to various tumor biological traits, and alternative splicing (AS), a crucial step in mRNA processing, plays a role in the post-transcriptional regulation of ferroptosis-related genes (FRGs). A least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) penalized Cox regression analysis was utilized to build a prognostic signature based on 12 AS events (p < 0.05), which was validated in gastric cancer (GC) patients.

Next-generation sequencing (NGS) offers a promising approach for differentiating multiple primary lung cancers (MPLC) from intrapulmonary metastasis (IPM), though panel selection and clonal interpretation remain challenging. Whole-exome sequencing (WES) data from 80 lung cancer samples were utilized to simulate MPLC and IPM, with various sequenced panels constructed through gene subsampling. Two clonal interpretation approaches primarily applied in clinical practice, MoleA (based on shared mutation comparison) and MoleB (based on probability calculation), were subsequently evaluated.

Tissue clearing combined with high-resolution confocal imaging is a cutting-edge approach for dissecting the three-dimensional (3D) architecture of tissues and deciphering cellular spatial interactions under physiological and pathological conditions. Deciphering the spatial interaction of leptin receptor-expressing (LepR) stromal cells with other compartments in the bone marrow is crucial for a deeper understanding of the stem cell niche and the skeletal tissue. In this study, we introduce an optimized protocol for the 3D analysis of skeletal tissues, enabling the visualization of hematopoietic and stromal cells, especially LepR stromal cells, within optically cleared bone hemisections.

January 2025

School of Health Management, Harbin Medical University, Harbin, 150081, China.

Purpose: Given the recent update of SF-6Dv2, detailed data on utility scores for cancer patients by cancer type remain scarce in China and other regions, which limits the precision of cost-utility analyses (CUA) in cancer interventions. The aim of the study was to systematically evaluate utility scores of six common cancers in China measured using SF-6Dv2, and identify the potential factors associated with utility scores.

Methods: A hospital-based cross-sectional survey was conducted from August 2022 to December 2023.

Recent advancements in tissue engineering have promoted the development of nerve guidance conduits (NGCs) that significantly enhance peripheral nerve injury treatment, improving outcomes and recovery rates. However, utilising tailored biomimetic three-dimensional (3D) topological porous structures combined with multiple bio-effect neurotrophic factors to create environments similar to neural tissues, regulate local immune responses, and develop a supportive microenvironment to promote peripheral nerve regeneration and repair poses significant challenges. Herein, a biomimetic extracellular matrix (ECM) NGC featuring an interconnected 3D porous network and sustained delivery of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) is designed using multi-functional gelatine microcapsules (GMs).

Compared to other immune checkpoint molecules, T cell immunoglobulin domain and mucin domain-3 (TIM-3) is highly expressed on natural killer (NK) cells, but its functional role and prognostic significance in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) remains unclear. This study aims to evaluate the role of TIM-3 expression on the cytotoxic and killing capacity of NK cells and its prognostic significance in AML. AML public single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNAseq) data were used to analyze the correlation of transcript levels between (encoding TIM-3) and cytotoxic molecules in NK cells.
