Objective: To study the clinical treatment features of biliary tract and pancreatic surgery complicated by acute pancreatitis.
Methods: A retrospective analysis of 21 cases of biliary tract and pancreatic surgery complicated by acute pancreatitis in the Department of General Surgery in our hospital during May 2005 to July 2011 was performed; the clinical treatment features were analyzed in terms of surgical option, onset interval of acute pancreatitis after last surgery, length of stay in hospital and Ranson score.
Results: There was no statistic difference between the two groups (A: The onset interval of acute pancreatitis after last surgery < 0.

Objective: To determine the optimal selection of proximal fusion level for degenerative scoliosis (DS) and investigate the long-term proximal-related complications.
Methods: Profiles of 95 consecutive patients with DS who underwent posterior long instrumented fusion were analyzed retrospectively. Perioperative parameters were reviewed stratified into 3 groups according to the relationship between the upper instrumented vertebrae (UIV), horizontal vertebrae (HV) and upper end vertebrae (UEV), namely HV Group (UIV = HV or above), HV-UEV Group (UIV = between HV and UEV) and UEV Group (UIV = UEV or below) in coronal plane and 3 groups in sagittal plane according to segment levels.

We aim to analyze the blood metabolic profiling and the gene mutation of ornithine transcarbamylase (OTC) in three neonates with ornithine transcarbamylase deficiency (OTCD). Three neonates with OTCD were included in this study. The profiling of amino acids and acylcarnitine was determined using MS-MS assay.

Metaphysis cancellous bone fracture is one of the most common fracture types in clinical orthopedic practice. The specialized healing process of cancellous bone fracture has long been ignored by the academic society. Comparing with diaphyseal cortical bone healing, cancellous bone healing showed less bone tissue necrosis, barely any hematoma formation, limited inflammation events and no external callus formation.

Background: Various energy based surgical devices (ESD) like electrotome have been widely applied in thyroid surgery. This is the first canine model to determine the safety margin of using the electrotome near the recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) to prevent injury to this nerve during thyroid surgery.
Methods: Eighteen healthy male dogs were divided equally into three groups according to the distance between electrotome application and the RLN: Group A (5 mm), Group B (3 mm), Group C (1 mm).

Study Design: Chronic strained lumbar disc herniation (LDH) cases were classified into bulging LDH, herniated LDH and prolapse LDH types according to imaging examination, and vertebrae disruptions were evaluated. Cytokines derived from the nucleus pulposus cells were detected, and their effects on osteoclastogenesis, as well as the mechanisms involved, were studied via an in vitro osteoclast differentiation system.
Objective: To clarify the mechanisms of lumbar vertebrae resorption induced by lumbar herniation.

Among the methods of the peripheral nerve repair, artificial conduit bridging surgery is superior to epineurium and perineurium neurorrhaphy because of supplying enough space for nerve regeneration. Artificial conduit provides important microenvironment for peripheral nerve regeneration, especially for nerve amplification effect. Amplification phenomenon has been demonstrated in many studies using artificial conduit.

Materials And Methods: A nationally representative sample of 38,203 Chinese participants was categorized by different levels of urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (ACR; 0 -10 mg/g, 10 -20 mg/g, 20 -30 mg/g, 30 -300 mg/g). The prevalence of albuminuria was compared by using a single urinary ACR cut-off point and by sex-specific ACR cut-off points.

Background: Insulin injection therapy is one of the most effective treatments for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Many people with T2DM in western countries resist starting insulin therapy; whether the same is true in China is unknown. This survey-based study assessed acceptance and rejection of insulin therapy among individuals with T2DM in China and self-reported reasons for these therapy choices.

As a novel noninvasive and low cost alternative method to detect SAHS patients, the diagnostic power of ECG-derived respiration (EDR) hasn't been well determined. In light of this, we tested whether EDR can be utilized as a feasible tool to diagnose SAHS in Chinese patients.
