Microbiological Characteristics and Clinical Features of Cardiac Implantable Electronic Device Infections at a Tertiary Hospital in China.

The incidence of cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED) infections is rapidly increasing worldwide. However, the microbiological characteristics and clinical features of symptomatic CIED infections are not well described. The present study included patients with CIED infections in China, and their pocket tissues were collected for clinical microbiological determination.

Glycogen synthase kinase 3β (GSK3β) inhibitors, especially the mood stabilizer lithium chloride, are also used as neuroprotective or anti-inflammatory agents. We studied the influence of LiCl on inducing early myelin clearance and on regulating the remyelination following peripheral nerves injury. We showed that the oral administration of adult mice with LiCl after sciatic nerve crush injury accelerated in vivo myelin debris clearance stimulated the expression of myelin proteins, restored the myelin structure, and accelerated the recovery of sciatic functions.

[Pharmacokinetics of generic dasatinib in the management of chronic myeloid leukemia in the choronie phase].

To evaluate the pharmacokinetics and bioequivalence of generic dasatinib in patients with chronic myeloid leukemia in the choronie phase (CML-CP). Using randomized, parallel, overlapping, self-control designed study, a 100 mg dose of the reference or test tablet was given to 12 CML-CP patients who were resistant or intolerant to Imatinib and Nilotinib in a randomized two-way crossover design, and the plasma concentration of the medicine was assayed by HPLC-MS-MS. The main pharmacokinetic parameters and bioequivalence of the two formulations were evaluated.

Chronic Omega-3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acid Treatment Variably Affects Cellular Repolarization in a Healed Post-MI Arrhythmia Model.

Introduction: Over the last 40 years omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) have been shown to be anti-arrhythmic or pro-arrhythmic depending on the method and duration of administration and model studied. We previously reported that omega-3 PUFAs do not confer anti-arrhythmic properties and are pro-arrhythmic in canine model of sudden cardiac death (SCD). Here, we evaluated the effects of chronic omega-3 PUFA treatment in post-MI animals susceptible (VF+) or resistant (VF-) to ventricular tachyarrhythmias.

Topography of Synchronization of Somatosensory Evoked Potentials Elicited by Stimulation of the Sciatic Nerve in Rat.

Purpose: Traditionally, the topography of somatosensory evoked potentials (SEPs) is generated based on amplitude and latency. However, this operation focuses on the physical morphology and field potential-power, so it suffers from difficulties in performing identification in an objective manner. In this study, measurement of the synchronization of SEPs is proposed as a method to explore brain functional networks as well as the plasticity after peripheral nerve injury.

Surgery-Induced Hippocampal Angiotensin II Elevation Causes Blood-Brain Barrier Disruption via MMP/TIMP in Aged Rats.

Reversible blood-brain barrier (BBB) disruption has been uniformly reported in several animal models of postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD). Nevertheless, the precise mechanism underlying this occurrence remains unclear. Using an aged rat model of POCD, we investigated the dynamic changes in expression of molecules involved in BBB disintegration, matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) and -9 (MMP-9), as well as three of their endogenous tissue inhibitors of MMP (TIMP-1, -2, -3), and tried to establish the correlation between MMP/TIMP balance and surgery-induced hippocampal BBB disruption.

Intensity-modulated radiation therapy for pelvic oligo-recurrence from rectal cancer: long-term results from a single institution.

Background: Pelvic oligo-recurrence is common in rectal cancer patients, and some could not achieve radical resection.

Objective: The study was to analyze long-term outcomes and prognostic factors associated with survival in patients treated with intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT).

Methods: Study participants were identified from rectal patients with pelvic oligo-recurrence without distant metastases, who were not suitable for surgery (n=135).

Although, to some extent, peripheral nervous system can spontaneously regenerate, post-injury recovery is often associated with poor functional outcome. Recent studies have demonstrated that epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) are factual several different diseases. A two-tier system divides EOC into type I and type II EOC. HE4 has been used as a complementary biomarker for diagnosing EOC.

Hyperhomocysteinaemia is an independent risk factor of abdominal aortic aneurysm in a Chinese Han population.

The associations between hyperhomocysteinaemia (HHcy), methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) C677T polymorphism, and abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) remain controversial, with only few studies focused on these associations within the Chinese population. We performed subgroup and interaction analyses in a Chinese Han population to investigate these associations. In all, 155 AAA patients and 310 control subjects were evaluated for serum total homocysteine levels and MTHFR C677T polymorphisms.

Evidence of a novel gene HERPUD1 in polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy.

Polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV) is an exudative maculopathy, with clinical features distinct from neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) which is the leading cause of irreversible blindness in the elderly. Our studies focused on the genetic background and function of a novel gene HERPUD1 in PCV. HERPUD1 has been reported to increase the level of amyloid β (Aβ), which is a component of drusen deposits underlying the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) layer.

The change tendency of PI3K/Akt pathway after spinal cord injury.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) refers to the damage of spinal cord's structure and function due to a variety of causes. At present, many scholars have confirmed that apoptosis is the main method of secondary injury in spinal cord injury. In view of understanding the function of PI3K/Akt pathway on spinal cord injury, this study observed the temporal variation of key molecules (PI3K, Akt, p-Akt) in the PI3K/Akt pathway after spinal cord injury by immunohistochemistry and Western-blot.

Dexmedetomidine attenuates isoflurane-induced cognitive impairment through antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptosis in aging rat.

As a kind of α2 adrenergic receptor agonists, dexmedetomidine generates sedation, anti-anxiety and anesthesia effects by hyperpolarizing noradrenergic nerve cells in locus coeruleus. This study was designed to investigate the neuroprotective of dexmedetomidine attenuates isoflurane-induced cognitive impairment, and the possible underlying mechanism in aging rat. Firstly, we used isoflurane-induced aging rat model to analyze the therapeutical effect of dexmedetomidine on cognitive impairment.

Establishment and characterization of an immortalized rat hepatic stellate cell line.

Hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) play an important role in liver fibrosis and portal hypertension. This study established a new rat HSC cell line LSC-1. Liver ex vivo perfusion with collagenase IV and density gradient centrifugation were used to isolate rat HSC.

Purpose: Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the main cause of visual impairment and legal blindness in older individuals. COL8A1 rs13095226 variants have recently been implicated associated with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) and Polypoidal Choroidal Vasculopathy (PCV) in American studies. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between the COL8A1 rs13095226 Polymorphism and neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) and polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV) in Chinese people.

The effects of early versus delayed castration targeting androgen on prolonging survival in a mouse model of bladder cancer.

Objective: To compare the efficacy of early versus delayed surgical castration on prolonging survival and further to investigate the anticancer effect and potential value of targeting androgen in the therapeutic intervention of bladder cancer.

Materials And Methods: N-butyl-N-(4-hydroxybutyl) nitrosamine (BBN) was used to induce bladder cancer in male mice. Mice were randomly divided into three groups: the early castration group (on which castration was perform at 4 weeks after first time of BBN administration), the delayed castration group (on which castration was perform at 20 weeks after first time of BBN administration), and the sham-castrated group.

Hypoxia-inducible factor-1α perpetuates synovial fibroblast interactions with T cells and B cells in rheumatoid arthritis.

Synovial fibroblast hyperplasia, T-cell hyperactivity, B-cell overactivation, and the self-perpetuating interactions among these cell types are major characteristics of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The inflamed joints of RA patients are hypoxic, with upregulated expression of hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) in RA synovial fibroblasts (RASFs). It remains unknown whether HIF-1α regulates interactions between RASFs and T cells and B cells.

Using suture and locking anatomical bridging plate to fix comminuted mid-shaft clavicle fractures with intramedullary nail assistance in reduction.

Background: During conventional plate fixation of comminuted midshaft fracture of the clavicle, wedge-shaped fragments often need to be fixed with lag screws. A new procedure, which included intramedullary K-wire assistance in reduction, binding fragments by suture, and eventually bridging plate fixation, was compared with conventional techniques.

Hypothesis: This new procedure is more effective than the conventional techniques, and the fixation of free fragments using lag screws is not necessary.

Cauda equina syndrome caused by isolated spinal extramedullary-intradural cauda equina metastasis is the primary symptom of small cell lung cancer: a case report and review of the literatrure.

Objectives: To describe a case of extramedullary-intradural metastases causing cauda equina syndrome (CES) as the primary syndrome of lung cancer, and to review the pertinent medical literature.
