The aim of this study was to identify differently expressed proteins in the presence and absence of EPHX2 gene in mouse hypothalamus using proteomics profiling and bioinformatics analysis. This study was performed on 3 wild type (WT) and 3 EPHX2 gene global knockout (KO) mice (EPHX2(-/-)). Using the nano- electrospray ionization (ESI)-LC-MS/MS detector, we identified 31 over-expressed proteins in WT mouse hypothalamus compared to the KO counterparts.

Ets-1, the prototypical member of the family of Ets transcription factors, has been shown to participate in tissue fibrotic remodeling. However, its role in cardiac fibrosis has not been established. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of Ets-1 in profibrotic actions of angiotensin II (Ang II) in cardiac fibroblasts (CFs) and in the in vivo heart.

Catestatin (CST) is a catecholamine secretion inhibiting peptide as non-competitive inhibitor of nicotinic acetylcholine receptor. CST play a protective role in cardiac ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) but the molecular mechanism remains unclear. Cardiomyocytes endogenously produced CST and its expression was reduced after I/R.

Aims/introduction: Irisin is a newly identified myokine that can promote energy expenditure. Previous studies showed that circulating urotensin II (UII) levels were increased in diabetes, and UII could inhibit the glucose transport in skeletal muscle in diabetic mice and aggravated insulin resistance. We presumed that irisin levels are associated with UII in diabetic patients.

Anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) possesses a broad morphological spectrum. Currently, we present a case of ALK-positive ALCL presenting with an alveolar growth pattern in a 22-year-old Chinese female. This patient complained of a progressively enlarged mass in the right axillary region for 6 months.

Among the methods of the peripheral nerve repair, artificial conduit bridging surgery is superior to epineurium and perineurium neurorrhaphy because of supplying enough space for nerve regeneration. Artificial conduit provides important microenvironment for peripheral nerve regeneration, especially for nerve amplification effect. Amplification phenomenon has been demonstrated in many studies using artificial conduit.

Objective: To evacuate whether short-tandem-repeat (STR) DNA genotyping is effective for diagnostic measure to precisely classify hydatidiform moles.
Methods: 150 cases were selected based on histologic features that were previously diagnosed or suspected molar pregnancy. All sections were stained with hematoxylin as a quality control method, and guided the microscopic dissection.

Hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α) promotes cell survival after hypoxia-ischemia by regulating its target genes. Desferrioxamine (DFO) has been found to up-regulate HIF-1α expression in ischemia brain injury. However, the signaling pathway to mediate this regulation remains unclear in neonatal hypoxia-ischemia brain damage (HIBD).

A raising number of surgeons have chosen laparoscopy-assisted gastrectomy (LAG) as an alternative to open gastrectomy (OG) with D2 lymph node dissection for treatment of advanced gastric cancer (ADG). But no meta-analysis has been performed to evaluate the value of LAG versus OG with regard to safety and efficacy for treatment of ADG. A comprehensive literature research was performed in PubMed, Web of Science and Embase to identify studies that compared LAG and OG with D2 lymph node dissection for treatment of ADG.

Intraneural perineurioma is a neoplasm of perineurial cells, corresponding to WHO grade I. We present a case of intraneural perineurioma affecting multiple nerves, which usually involved one or two of major nerve trunks in one patient. We describe the clinical presentation, magnetic resonance (MR) neurography characteristics, and pathological characteristics.

EGFR and KRAS mutations correlate with response to tyrosine kinase inhibitors in patients with non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC). We reported a hydrothermal pressure method of simultaneous deparaffinization and lysis of formalin-fixed paraffin embedded (FFPE) tissue followed by conventional chaotropic salt column purification to obtain high quality DNA for mutation analysis using PCR-base direct sequencing. This study assessed the feasibility of using this method to screen for exons 18-21 of EGFR and exon 2 of KRAS gene mutations in surgical resection and core needle biopsy specimens from 251 NSCLC patients.

To overcome the defects of current research methods of natural products, an LC-MS-DS that consisted of more than 600 natural products was constructed with HPLC-ESI-IT-MS/MS. The database searching results of LC-MS-DS were validated to be reliable, which indicated that LC-MS-DS could be successfully applied for the effective identification and target isolation of natural products. The study will provide an effective method for fast identification and efficient isolation of natural products.

The antitumor and immunomodulatory activity of broken-spore of Ganodermalucidum polysaccharides (Gl-BSP) were investigated in vivo and in vitro. It was showed that Gl-BSP (50, 100, and 200 mg kg(-1)) exhibited antitumor effect against Sarcoma 180 (S180) in BALB/c mice. The Gl-BSP was not cytotoxicity in S180 cells and PG cells (human lung carcinoma cell) in vitro.

Our previous studies demonstrated that Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharides (Gl-PS) exhibit potent immunomodulating effects. Immunomodulation plays an important role in hematopoiesis. To investigate the possible mechanism by which Gl-PS promote myelopoiesis during myelosuppression induced by cyclophosphamide, mice were injected intraperitoneally (i.

Objective: To compare the relative risk of waist circumference (WC) and/or BMI on cardiovascular risk factors.
Methods: A cross-sectional data of 41 087 adults (19 567 male and 21 520 female) from the 2002 China National Nutrition and Health Survey were examined. According to the obesity definition of WGOC (BMI, 24 kg/m2 and 28 kg/m2; WC, male 85 cm and 95 cm for male, 80 cm and 90 cm for female), the study population were divided into 9 groups.

Background: Waist circumference (WC), a proxy measure of central body fat, is a better predictor than overall body fat for cardiovascular risk factors in both adults and children. WC cutoffs have been established in many countries, but the national WC reference has not been developed in China.
Objective: To study the distribution of WC in a representative group of Chinese children for establishing Chinese WC cutoff points.

The HCA587 gene, identified by serological analysis of recombinant cDNA expression library (SEREX) from a hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patient, encodes a new member of cancer-testis antigens. HCA587 mRNA expression in normal tissues and cancers has been previously reported. To estimate its immunogenicity to induce immune response, it is essential to analyze HCA587 expression at the protein level.
