Background: Elevated blood pressure (BP) in childhood is associated with adult hypertension and arterial stiffness. However, the effect of long-term time in target range (TTR) for BP since childhood on the risk of arterial stiffness in midlife remains unclear.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the independent association of TTR for systolic blood pressure (SBP) from childhood to midlife with arterial stiffness in adulthood.

Background: The recurrence rate of bipolar disorder (BD) is relatively high. Assessing the risk of relapse in patients with BD can assist in identifying populations at high risk for recurrence, and early feasible interventions can improve patient' prognoses. Therefore, it is important to establish and validate predictive models for relapse risk in patients with BD.

Electronic address:

The capacity of mature adipocytes to de-differentiate into fibroblast-like cells has been demonstrated in vitro and a few, rather specific in vivo conditions. A detailed comparison between de-differentiated fat (DFAT) cells and adipose stem and progenitor cells (ASPCs) from different adipose depots is yet to be conducted. Moreover, whether de-differentiation of mature adipocytes from classical subcutaneous and visceral depots occurs under physiological conditions remains unknown.

Effect of two novel GABAA receptor positive allosteric modulators on neuropathic and inflammatory pain in mice.

Neuropharmacology

January 2025

Department of Pharmacy, Nanjing First Hospital, Nanjing Medical University, Nanjing, China; School of Basic Medicine and Clinical Pharmacy, China Pharmaceutical University, Nanjing, China. Electronic address:

Loss of GABAergic inhibition in the spinal dorsal horn (SDH) is implicated in central sensitization and chronic pain. Both agonists and positive allosteric modulators (PAMs) of GABAA receptor are found to be effective in the management of chronic pain. In addition to benzodiazepines, neuroactive steroids (NASs) also act as PAMs through binding to unique sites of GABAA receptors.

Electronic address:

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is one of the most common viruses leading to lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs) in children and elderly individuals worldwide. Although significant progress in the prevention and treatment of RSV infection was made in 2023, with two anti-RSV vaccines and one monoclonal antibody approved by the FDA, there is still a lack of postinfection therapeutic drugs in clinical practice, especially for the pediatric population. In recent years, with an increasing understanding of the pathogenic mechanisms of RSV, drugs and drug candidates, have shown great potential for clinical application.

Electronic address:

Background: Central nervous system (CNS) accessibility constitutes a major hurdle for drug development to treat neurological diseases. Existing drug delivery methods rely on breaking the blood-brain barrier (BBB) for drugs to penetrate the CNS. Researchers have discovered natural microchannels between the skull bone marrow and the dura mater, providing a pathway for drug delivery through the skull bone marrow.

A Quantitative First Passage Time Model for Tubular Microfluidic Immunoassays.

ACS Sens

January 2025

Institute of Biomedical and Health Engineering, Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenzhen 518055, China.

Solid-phase immunosorbent reactions, such as ELISA, are widely used for detecting, identifying, and quantifying protein markers. However, traditional centimeter scale well-based immunoreactors suffer from low surface-to-volume (S/V) ratios, leading to large sample consumption and a long assay time. Microfluidic technologies, particularly tubular microfluidic immunoreactors, have emerged as promising alternatives due to their high S/V ratios.

A free association semantic task for fNIRS-based perinatal depression assessment.

Front Neurol

January 2025

National Clinical Research Center for Obstetric & Gynecologic Diseases Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, Beijing, China.

Perinatal depression (PD) is a highly prevalent psychological disorder that has a detrimental effect on infant and maternal physical and mental health, but effective and objective assessment of PD is still insufficient. In recent years, the functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) has been acknowledged as an effective non-invasive tool for clinical assessment of depression. This study proposed a free association semantic task (FAST) paradigm for fNIRS-based assessment of PD.
