Chinese guidelines for minimally invasive donor hepatectomy in living donor liver transplantation (2024 edition).

Background: Minimally invasive surgeries are increasingly central to modern medicine, particularly in liver transplantation. These techniques, which offer reduced trauma, precise operations, minimal bleeding, and swift recovery, are, however, unevenly adopted across China. Only a limited number of centers routinely perform minimally invasive donor hepatectomies, indicating a significant imbalance in the development and application of these advanced procedures.

Timing of surgery for spinal deformity patients during the COVID‑19 pandemic: experience from a prospective cohort at Peking Union Medical College Hospital.

Background: The purpose of this study was to explore the optimal timing and associated risks of spinal deformity surgery during the COVID‑19 pandemic.

Methods: All consecutive surgical cases for spinal deformity between November 2022 and April 2023 were included. The population was divided into several categories according to the time from diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 infection to the day of surgery: without infection (pre-COVID-19), infection at 0 to 4 weeks (peri-COVID-19), infection at 4 to 8 weeks (early post-COVID-19), and infection over 8 weeks (late post-COVID-19).

Methods: Patients with SLE were recruited consecutively between December 2022 and June 2023. Detailed clinical assessment and nerve ultrasound were conducted on each SLE patient and healthy control (HC) at predetermined sites of peripheral nerves.

Background: Cancer remains a major cause of mortality and a significant economic burden in China. Exploring the disparities in cancer patterns and control strategies between China and developed countries may offer valuable insights for policy formulation and enhance cancer management efforts. This study examined the incidence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life year (DALY) burden of cancer in China, and compared these metrics with those observed in the United States (US) and the United Kingdom (UK).

Development and validation of a deep learning model for morphological assessment of myeloproliferative neoplasms using clinical data and digital pathology.

The subjectivity of morphological assessment and the overlapping pathological features of different subtypes of myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) make accurate diagnosis challenging. To improve the pathological assessment of MPNs, we developed a diagnosis model (fusion model) based on the combination of bone marrow whole-slide images (deep learning [DL] model) and clinical parameters (clinical model). Thousand and fifty-one MPN and non-MPN patients were divided into the training, internal testing and one internal and two external validation cohorts (the combined validation cohort).

Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a frequent complication of sepsis. While impaired renal venous reflux indicates renal congestion, the relationship between AKI outcomes and hemodynamic parameters remains debated. Group B (GBS) is a leading pathogen responsible for fatal infections in newborns primarily due to vertical transmission from colonized mothers. Regulatory Mechanisms and Physiological Impacts of Quorum Sensing in Gram-Negative Bacteria.

The Quorum sensing (QS) system is a widely existing communication mechanism, which regulates bacterial community behaviors and the expression of specific genes. The most common pathogenic bacteria in clinical infections are gram-negative bacteria, and QS plays an important regulatory role in the production of virulence factors and development of antibiotic resistance. This article reviews the QS systems of gram-negative bacteria and provides an overview of how they regulate their physiological functions.

Cerebral vascular malformations: pathogenesis and therapy.

Cerebral vascular malformations (CVMs), particularly cerebral cavernous malformations and cerebral arteriovenous malformations, pose significant neurological challenges due to their complex etiologies and clinical implications. Traditionally viewed as congenital conditions with structural abnormalities, CVMs have been treated primarily through resection, embolization, and stereotactic radiosurgery. While these approaches offer some efficacy, they often pose risks to neurological integrity due to their invasive nature.
