In recent years, tumors have emerged as a major global health threat. An increasing number of studies indicate that the production, development, metastasis, and elimination of tumor cells are closely related to the tumor microenvironment (TME). Advances in artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms, particularly in large language models, have rapidly propelled research in the medical field.

Aim: Natural orifice specimen extraction surgery (NOSES) has gained significant importance in treating cancers. The current study is a meta-analysis that aimed to assess the short-term efficacy and long-term prognostic impact of NOSES and conventional laparoscopic (CL) surgery in the treatment of colorectal cancer (CRC).
Method: Published reports in several medical databases up to February 2024 were searched and information pertinent to outcomes of NOSES and CL in retrospective and randomized studies to treat CRC was collected.

Aims: This study aimed to compare the efficacy of non-pharmacological interventions in children with preoperative anxiety.
Background: It is estimated that preoperative anxiety affects up to 60% of children which is associated with both immediate and long-term adverse outcomes. Several non-pharmacological interventions have been demonstrated to be effective, but further research is necessary to determine which is the most effective.

Background: In patients with sepsis, platelets are activated and adhere to neutrophils, forming platelet-leukocyte aggregates (PLAs) that lead to the development of MODS. ARDS is one of the main manifestations of septic MODS. We designed this study to explore the effects of different anti-plate therapy drugs on platelet activation and platelet-leukocyte aggregate (PLA) formation in the early stage of septic ARDS.

Glecirasib (JAB-21822) is a new covalent oral KRAS-G12C inhibitor. This multicenter, single-arm phase 2b study assessed the efficacy and safety of glecirasib administered orally at 800 mg daily in patients with locally advanced or metastatic KRAS-mutated nonsmall-cell lung cancer. The primary endpoint was the objective response rate (ORR) assessed by an independent review committee (IRC).

Radiotherapy displays unique antitumor synergism with immune checkpoint inhibitors, which is indicated by high pathological complete response (pCR) rates from single-arm trials of locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC). Here we test the efficacy and safety of the radiation-immune checkpoint inhibitor combination in patients with LARC in a phase 2, randomized trial conducted in eight major colorectal cancer centers in Beijing. In total, 186 eligible all-comer (proficient mismatch repair and deficient mismatch repair) participants were enrolled.

Background: Superficial autologous fat grafting is widely used for facial rejuvenation and regenerative treatments, yet its retention rate remains unpredictable. Enhancing the concentration of adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) has been shown to improve graft retention. Mechanical fat processing techniques can reduce fat granules size for superficial injection as well as elevate the concentration of ASCs.

To investigate the characteristics of RET gene rearrangement revealed by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) in lung cancer. A total of 616 formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded surgical samples from lung adenocarcinomas with wild-type EGFR gene and no ALK protein expression by immunohistochemistry obtained at Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Beijing, China between December 2019 and April 2022 were included. Thirty-three tumors with RET gene rearrangement determined by imbalanced-based reverse-transcription droplet digital PCR (RT-ddPCR) were analyzed using break-apart FISH.

Background: Therapeutic efficacy of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA)-specific chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells against colorectal cancer (CRC) remains limited due to the unique characteristics and distinct microenvironments of tumor tissues. We modified CEA-specific CAR-T cells, aiming to stimulate endogenous CD8 T cell responses against neoantigens that were derived from CEA-positive tumors destroyed by the CAR T cells.
Methods: In a conventional CEA CAR (reg-CAR), we modified it to express lymphotactin XCL1 and interleukin (IL)-7 genes, constructing a modified 7XCL1-CAR.

The global aging demographic trend has led to an increased demand for home care services among older people. We measured the preferences and willingness to pay (WTP) of older adults in China for home care services using a discrete choice experiment (DCE) design. A total of 496 valid responses from older adults were included.

Arterial stiffening is a hallmark of chronic kidney disease (CKD) related cardiovascular events and is primarily attributed to the elevated matrix stiffness. Stiffened arteries are accompanied by low-grade inflammation, but the causal effects of matrix stiffness on inflammation remain unknown. For analysis of the relationship between arterial stiffness and vascular inflammation, pulse wave velocity (PWV) and aortic inflammatory markers were analyzed in an adenine-induced mouse model of CKD in chronological order.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of time-dependent diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (td-dMRI) and dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI (DCE-MRI)-based kinetic heterogeneity in differentiating suspicious breast lesions (categorised as Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System 4 or 5).
Methods: This prospective study included 51 females with suspicious breast lesions who underwent preoperative breast MRI, including DCE-MRI and td-dMRI. Six kinetic parameters, namely peak, persistent, plateau, washout component, predominant curve type, and heterogeneity, were extracted from the DCE series using MATLAB and SPM software.

Background: Patients with pulmonary subsolid nodules (SSNs) ≤ 2 cm in diameter and a consolidation-to-tumor ratio (CTR) ≤ 0.25 have good postoperative prognoses, but their management remains controversial.
Research Question: Does upfront surgical intervention lead to higher survival than watchful waiting in patients with SSNs diameter ≤ 2 cm and CTR ≤ 0.

Autologous fat grafting is a widely used technique in plastic and reconstructive surgery, but its efficacy is often limited by the poor survival rate of transplanted adipose tissue. This study aims to enhance the survival of fat grafts by investigating the role of thymosin beta-4 (Tβ4) in facilitating mitochondrial transfer from adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) to adipocytes and newly formed blood vessels within the grafts via tunneling nanotubes (TNTs). We demonstrate that Tβ4 upregulates the Rac/F-actin pathway, leading to an increased formation of TNTs and subsequent transfer of mitochondria from ADSCs.

The biological pathways connecting ambient fine particulate matter (PM)-induced initial adverse effects to the development of atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases are not fully understood. We hypothesize that lysoglycerophospholipids (LysoGPLs) are pivotal mediators of atherosclerosis induced by exposure to PM. This study investigated the changes of LysoGPLs in response to PM exposure and the mediation role of LysoGPLs in the pro-atherosclerotic effects of PM exposure.

Various mature tissue-resident cells exhibit progenitor characteristics following injury. However, the existence of endogenous stem cells with multiple lineage potentials in the adult spinal cord remains a compelling area of research. In this study, we present a cross-species investigation that extends from development to injury.

Interferon regulatory factor 3 (IRF3) is a central hub transcription factor that controls host antiviral innate immunity. The expression and function of IRF3 are tightly regulated by the post-translational modifications. However, it is unknown whether unanchored ubiquitination and deubiquitination of IRF3 involve modulating antiviral innate immunity against RNA viruses.

In the pursuit of equitable diabetes care, international knowledge exchange (iKE) serves as a crucial mechanism for narrowing the gaps in quality within and between countries. Little is known about the process of quality measurement exchange among stakeholders from high-income countries (HICs), low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), and international organizations. This study aims to analyze recent international exchanges of quality measures in diabetes care and propose a framework for enhancing quality, focusing on LMICs.
