Cospeciation has been observed multiple times between parasites and their hosts. Here we compare the phylogeny of 2 different groups of chewing lice (Phthiraptera), one known for being host specific (Amblycera: Myrsidea) and one known for including many generalist species (Ischnocera: Brueelia-complex, specifically Guimaraesiella and Priceiella) with that of their songbird hosts (Passeriformes), which are participants in mixed-species feeding flocks in South China. Using event- (Jane) and distance-based (ParaFit) analyses we found that both groups of lice have phylogenies that are more similar than by chance to those of their hosts.

Ectoparasites significantly impact the health and productivity of chickens, both directly and indirectly. From October 2022 to September 2023, a cross-sectional study was conducted in the East Gojam Zone of the Amhara region, North West Ethiopia to identifying the ectoparasite species infesting free-ranged chicken. Additionally, a questionnaire survey was used to assess farmers knowledge and attitudes towards control practices.

Spillback effects of the parasitic salmon louse from fish farms to wild fish are a critical environmental concern for countries with wild salmon. The ectoparasitic louse causes significant physical and physiological damage to wild salmonids that probably have long-term impacts on individuals and population dynamics. However, empirical links between injuries and abundance of lice have not been established in the wild.

Head lice infestation continues to be a major health problem worldwide. In order to solve this problem, frequent use of pediculocides has caused growing resistance among head lice population. This study aims to investigate the presence of the knockdown resistance () mutation in the head lice population in northern Iran.

Epidermal parasitic skin diseases are a family of parasitic diseases which occur globally or are frequent in special settings. Epidermal parasitic skin diseases occur in travelers and migrants, although epidemiology and/or clinical manifestations differ between these groups. The objective of this study is to summarize the existing knowledge concerning tungiasis, hookworm-related cutaneous larva migrans, scabies, pediculosis capitis and pediculosis corporis in the context of travel and migration, and to identify risk factors for infection.

Human lice have long been parasites of humans and are responsible for several epidemics in human medical history. However, their morphology, particularly head and body lice, remains very similar. In this study, we discriminate human louse species based on the number, shape and size of aeropyles (respiratory pores) of the egg operculum as well as the size of the respiratory orifice in the aeropyles.

The salmon louse (Lepeophtheirus salmonis) is an ectoparasite feeding on mucus, skin, and blood of salmonids. On parasitised fish erosions and, at later lice stages, ulcerations appear at the louse feeding site. In susceptible species like Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) with a limited rejection of lice, only a mild inflammatory response with minor influx of immune cells is seen at these lesions, as the salmon louse secrete proteins that can dampen immune responses.

Seventy of 190 (37%) mammals, representing 14 rodent and 2 lagomorph species examined in the Desert National Wildlife Refuge in southern Nevada, were parasitized by sucking lice (Phthiraptera: Anoplura). Twelve species of sucking lice (5 species of Hoplopleruridae, 7 species of Polyplacidae) were recorded. Nine of these louse species (Hoplopleura difficilis, Hoplopleura ferrisi, Hoplopleura onychomydis, Hoplopleura reithrodontomyis, Fahrenholzia reducta, Haemodipsus setoni, Neohaematopinus citellinus, Neohaematopinus neotomae, and Polyplax auricularis) are reported from Nevada for the first time, and Po.

and are commensal rodent species endemic to Africa. A recent taxonomic revision within leaves the parasite–host list of questionable and that of incomplete. The current study aimed to develop a better understanding of the ectoparasite diversity associated with the 2 distinct but closely related rodent species and to explore the influence of host and habitat type on ectoparasite infestations.

Head lice infestations significantly impact schoolchildren, with permethrin being the primary treatment. The escalation in the prevalence of the knockdown resistance (kdr) mutation, potentially affecting treatment efficacy, is highly concerning. This study examined head lice infestation prevalence, the efficacy of 1% permethrin lotion, kdr mutation frequency, and the association between kdr genotype and permethrin treatment outcomes in schoolchildren in Nonthaburi province, Thailand.
