To investigate the distribution characteristics and analyze the clinical significance of dermatophagoides pteronyssinus allergen components in children with allergic rhinitis and asthma in Shenzhen. This study was a cross-sectional study. The clinical data of children with allergic rhinitis and asthma induced by dust mites admitted to the allergy clinic of Shenzhen Children's Hospital from 2021 to 2024 were collected and the serum sIgE levels of dermatophagoides pteronyssinus, dermatophagoides farinae (Der p, Der f) and dermatophagoides pteronyssinus components (Der p 1, Der p 2, Der p 10, Der p 23) were detected by magnetic bead chemiluminescence method.

Introduction And Aims: Acute pancreatitis (AP) can rapidly progress from a stable condition to multiple organ failure with high mortality. We aimed to describe the characteristics of AP patients requiring admission to a critical care facility and to identify predictors of disease progression.
Methods: We conducted a post-hoc analysis using prospectively collected data from AP patients admitted to the high dependency unit (HDU) and intensive care unit (ICU) at the University of Pécs, Hungary, from 2016 to 2019.

Objective: To explore the effect of the Mentzer Index (MI) in screening for children thalassemia (TT) minor.
Methods: We determined the MI cutoff value of diagnosing TT minor in children by utilizing a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Samples with MI values below this threshold, and no detectable gene mutations or IDA were further analyzed using Sanger sequencing or specific primer GAP-PCR.

Background: Neonates with critical congenital heart disease (cCHD) undergo a complicated transition to ex-utero life. However, continuous monitoring of autonomic tone using heart rate variability is currently lacking.
Materials And Methods: We retrieved continuous electrocardiograms from the time of admission or from 10 days prior to surgery for neonates with dextro-transposition of the great arteries (d-TGA) and hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS).

Allergic reaction to the silicone is rare in children and as a result very little experience has been reported on symptom and treatment. We presented a case involving a child who experienced prolonged ascites following a surgery of placing an abdominal drainage tube, characterized by the ongoing drainage of clear, light-yellow fluid at a rate of 250 mL/day through the drainage tube for 36 days. Examination of the ascitic fluid revealed an abnormal elevation in eosinophil proportion, which exhibited positive response to anti-allergic treatment.

To analyze the causes, locations, associated injuries, and relevant factors of lower limb and pelvic fractures in hospitalized children in China to provide a theoretical basis for reducing the incidence of such fractures. A retrospective analysis of children with lower limb and pelvic fractures admitted to 27 tertiary children's hospitals affiliated with China's Futang Research Center of Pediatric Development between December 1, 2015, and December 31, 2019, was conducted. Inpatient cases were analyzed in the following age groups: Infants (< 2 years), Preschool children (2-5 years), School children (6-11 years), and Adolescents (12-18 years).

Purpose: Functional connectivity hubs were previously identified at the source level in low-risk full-term newborns by high-density electroencephalography (HD-EEG). However, the directionality of information flow among hubs remains unclear. The aim of this study was to study the directionality of information flow among source level hubs in low-risk full-term newborns using HD-EEG.

Introduction: Children with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) participated in a randomized clinical trial comparing animal-assisted intervention (AAI) to psychosocial treatment as usual (TAU). This brief report describes effects of AAI on acute HPA axis reactivity and regulation. Saliva was collected before, during, and after psychosocial intervention sessions with and without therapy dogs and later assayed for cortisol (ug/dL).

We develop a frequency domain template subtraction approach to attenuate the maternal ECG in the abdominal ECG measured from pregnant women. The proposed approach was tested on five public fetal ECG datasets simultaneously measured with ECG from the fetal scalp. The method's performance was compared with the template subtraction approach in the time domain using the accuracy and association metrics.

There is a substantial body of literature that supports neonatal monitoring and signal analysis of the collected data to provide valuable insights for improving patient clinical care and to inform new research studies. This comprehensive monitoring approach extends beyond the collection of conventional vital signs to include the acquisition of continuous waveform data from patient monitors and other bedside medical devices. This paper discusses the necessary infrastructure for waveform retrieval from bedside monitors, and explores options provided by leading healthcare companies, third-party vendors or academic research teams to implement scalable monitoring systems across entire critical care units.

Importance: Approximately 50% of clinicians experience excessive emotional, physical, and mental stress, with repercussions across the entire medical system. Mindfulness exercises may mitigate this excessive stress. Heart rate variability (HRV) is an objective stress measure that can quantify which mindfulness exercises provide the greatest stress reduction.

To assess the impact of postnatal processing on placental DNA methylation, array data from flash-frozen placental tissue was compared to perfluorocarbon-immersed and formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded placental tissue. We observed that tissue exposed to perfluorocarbon showed no significant DNA methylation differences when compared to unprocessed tissue, while formalin processing altered the quality and reliability of the data produced on the DNA methylation array platform. Placental DNA methylation allows for the study of gene-environment interactions that influence the fetal environment and development.

Objectives: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is common in children. We hypothesized environmental toxins could drive progression to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), and assayed serum toxins and metabolites in children with histologically characterized MASLD/MASH.
Methods: Environmental chemicals, common in household items, perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), polybrominated flame retardants (polybrominated diphenyl ethers [PBDEs]), and metabolic profiles were assayed in children enrolled in the multicenter NASH Clinical Research Network Pediatric Database 2.

We used continuous heart rate recordings across the entire neonatal intensive care period to study circadian rhythm development in preterm infants and to evaluate the roles of postmenstrual (PMA) versus postnatal age (PNA).
Materials And Methods: The circadian rhythm was calculated using a cosine fit of heart rate.

Neurodevelopmental outcomes for preschool-age children in the United States with in utero Zika virus (ZIKV) exposure have not yet been reported. We performed a case-control study to assess whether children exposed in utero to ZIKV have abnormal neurodevelopment at age 4-5 years compared to unexposed controls. Thirteen ZIKV-exposed cases that did not have microcephaly or other specific features of congenital Zika syndrome and 12 controls were evaluated between ages 4-5 years.

Objectives: Inflammatory markers such as erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and C-reactive protein (CRP) are poorly informative about interferon (IFN)-related disorders. In these conditions, the measure of the interferon score (IS), obtained by measuring the expression of IFN-stimulated genes, has been proposed. Flow cytometry-based assays measuring sialic-acid-binding Ig-like lectin 1 (Siglec-1) expression could be a more practical tool for evaluating IFN-inflammation.
