Objectives: Teicoplanin is a commonly used antibiotic in critically ill children. However, teicoplanin dosing is often inaccurate, especially in children undergoing continuous kidney replacement therapy (CKRT). This study aims to develop a population pharmacokinetic (PK) model to optimize teicoplanin dosing in critically ill children, including those on CKRT.

Background: An acquired diaphragmatic hernia (ADH) is an uncommon event following pediatric liver transplantation. Pediatric liver transplantation proves effective in prolonging survival and improving quality of life for children with methylmalonic acidemia. Remarkably, there have been no previous reports documenting the occurrence of post-liver transplant ADH in patients diagnosed with methylmalonic acidemia.

Objective: To evaluate the feasibility of implementing family-integrated newborn care (FINC) for hospitalised preterm and low birthweight infants in Ethiopia. Despite the WHO's call for family engagement in newborn care, evidence of the feasibility of implementation remains scarce.
Design: An observational feasibility study employing a mixed-methods design comprising a quantitative cross-sectional survey among 157 healthcare providers (HCPs) and a qualitative Participatory Rural Appraisal.

Background: Neurodevelopmental disability is a common long-term concern following surgery for congenital heart disease (CHD). Little information is available from low-resource environments where the majority of children with CHD are born. Several challenges in the CHD care continuum exist in such environments.

Background And Objective: Low cardiac output syndrome (LCOS) is the most common complication after cardiac surgery in children with congenital heart disease (CHD). The aim of this study was to assess the predictive value of serum inorganic phosphorus (SIPL) as an indicator of LCOS in the postoperative period.
Materials And Methods: From June 2018 to December 2019, a single-center prospective study was conducted in patients with CHD undergoing surgery who required extracorporeal circulation (ECC).

Aims: Alcoholic liver disease (ALD) is characterized by aberrant lipid metabolism and chronic inflammation that eventually give rise to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. In the present study we investigated the contribution of CC motif chemokine ligand 11 (CCL11) to the ALD pathogenesis.
Methods And Materials: ALD was induced in mice by binge ethanol gavage or chronic ethanol feeding.

Objective: The aim of this study was to analyze if the healthcare organization of perinatal care and availability of referral neonatal intensive care units (NICU) impacted congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) neonatal mortality in the period 2004-2020. This study analyzed the spatial distribution of neonatal deaths of live births with CDH in São Paulo State, Brazil, and its association with NICU beds' availability.
Methods: Population-based study of all live births in São Paulo State from mothers residing in the same State, from 2004 to 2020.

Background: The rapid advancement of minimally invasive surgical techniques has made laparoscopy a preferred alternative because it reduces postoperative complications. However, inflating the peritoneum with CO2 causes a cranial shift of the diaphragm decreasing lung volume and impairing gas exchange. Additionally, CO2 absorption increases blood CO2 levels, further complicating mechanical ventilation when the lung function is already compromised.

Para-pneumonic effusion in children is often associated with bacterial infections; however, dual viral infections, including respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and COVID-19, can also lead to severe respiratory complications, as demonstrated in this case. This case report presents the clinical course of a pediatric patient with both RSV and COVID-19 infections, leading to para-pneumonic effusion. A three-year-old girl with a history of asthma and prior febrile convulsions presented to the Emergency Department with fever, cough, vomiting, and fatigue.

Background: Unplanned intensive care unit (ICU) admission (UIA) is associated with increased morbidity in adult trauma patients, however, is not well studied in pediatric trauma patients (PTPs). We sought to identify predictors of UIA, hypothesizing PTPs with UIA have increased odds of mortality.
Methods: The 2017-2019 Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP) database was queried for PTPs ≤16-years-old admitted to non-ICU level of care.

With the increasing survival rates of premature infants and their associated respiratory problems, noninvasive ventilation has gained popularity in neonatal intensive care units. On the other hand, this equipment can be stressful for infants. Objective: This study aimed to compare the effects of white noise and sound reduction on the behavioral responses of premature infants under noninvasive ventilation.

Background: Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders (FGIDs) can pose a great burden on affected children, their families, and the healthcare system. Due to the lack of knowledge about the precise pathophysiology of FGIDs, a proper identification of children at risk to develop FGIDs has never been attempted. The research aims to identify early-life risk factors for FGIDs such as infantile colic, regurgitation, and functional constipation, within the first year of life.
