Objective: To investigate the efficacy of laparoscopic sigmoid extraperitoneal colostomy combined with pelvic peritoneal closure in abdominoperineal resection for low rectal cancer.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 162 patients with low rectal cancer, who underwent laparoscopic abdominoperineal resection from January 2015 to January 2019 at the Affiliated Peace Hospital of Changzhi Medical College. Extraperitoneal stoma construction was performed in 98 patients (study group), while 64 patients (control group) underwent the procedure without suturing the pelvic peritoneum.

Object: To explore the effects of occupational aluminum exposure on workers' cognitive function and blood glucose concentration, and to analyze whether blood glucose concentration can mediate the cognitive changes caused by aluminum.
Method: Our study recruited 375 workers from an aluminum factory in northern China. We collected the fasting elbow venous blood of the workers, measured their fasting blood glucose concentration (FBG), and used ICP-MS to determine plasma aluminum concentration (P-Al) as an indicator of internal exposure.

The anti-inflammatory activity of cirsilineol in in vivo condition was assessed by measuring the relative organ weight, lung dry/wet weight ratio, protein concentration, and infiltration of inflammatory cells in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid. We estimated the myeloperoxidase activity and levels of cytokines, chemokines, and inflammatory markers to analyze the efficacy of cirsilineol against lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced lung inflammation. Furthermore, we quantified the gene expression of NFkB/IKK signaling molecules in cirsilineol-treated and untreated acute lung injury mice to confirm the anti-inflammatory property of cirsilineol.

Methods: Based on a state-of-the-art transfer-learned deep convolutional neural network in artificial intelligence (AI), we proposed a novel patch aggregation strategy for clinic CRC diagnosis using weakly labeled pathological whole-slide image (WSI) patches.

The present study investigated the effect of polyphenol-rich extract of (PPS) against pancreatic and hepatorenal dysfunction in high-fat diet (HFD)/streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetes. Diabetic rats were treated with PPS (100 and 400 mg/kg) and glibenclamide. The results revealed that diabetic rats displayed marked hyperglycaemia, hyperlipidaemia, hypoinsulinemia as well as alterations in serum renal and kidney function markers.

Cholestasis in drug-induced liver injury (DILI) can be assessed by biochemical and pathologic methods, but the agreement between the 2 methods remains unclear.The aim of this study was to identify the accurate method for assessment of cholestasis in DILI.The DILI standard established and revised by the Council for International Organizations of Medical Sciences (CIOMS) (R values were calculated by liver function at different time points), cholestatic liver disease guideline (European Association for the Study of the Liver, EASL), and liver pathology were used to assess, compare, and analyze the cholestasis in 133 patients with DILI.

Objective: To investigate the changes of CD4 T lymphocytes in peripheral blood of patients with follicular lymphoma and its clinical significance.
Methods: Blood samples were collected for detection of whole blood cells, including absolute monocyte count (AMC), absolute lymphocyte count (ALC), hemoglobin (Hb), platelet count (Plt). Age, sex, pathological grade, number of involved lymph nodes, bone marrow involvement (BMI), Ann Arbor stage, B symptoms, serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and serum β-2 microglobulin (β2-MG) were recorded, the prognostic stratification was performed by using FLIPI and FLIPI-2.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a malignant clonal hematologic disease from hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells. The isocitrate dehychogenase 2 (IDH2) gene mutation has been recently found, which may be associated with the course of AML. Caspase independent cell death (CICD) is defined as death that ensues when a signal that normally induces apoptosis fails to activate caspases,it can be activated by PARP-1, Calpains, Bax and AIF, possessing distinctive biologic characteristic differed from apoptosis and necrosis. Recent researchs have found that the molecular mechanisms governing CICD of K562 is opposite from that of the traditional medicine killing leukemia cells, which may have the potential pharmaceutical point for new drugs. This article reviews the newly acquaintance of molecular mechanisms for CICD and recent studies concerning the induction death of K562 cells via CICD, so as to provide some reference for the research of new drug point.

During the past few years, a novel family of CD4⁺T cell lineage was detected and named as Th17 cells because of its unique ability expressing IL-17, which also can produce IL-17A, IL-17F, IL-21, IL-22 and IL-26. Some cytokines, such as TGF-β, IL-6, L-23 may promote the differentiation of Th17 subset, whereas some cytokines, such as IL-21, IL-2, IFN-γ, may have inhibitory effects. Th17 cells serving as immune effectors play an important role in autoimmune diseases caused by chronic inflammation injury.

The healing of contaminated/infected bone defects is a significant clinical challenge. Here, a novel collagen scaffold composite encapsulating silver nanoparticles (AgNP) and bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP-2) was prepared to enhance the healing of infected bone defects. Collagen scaffolds conjugated with AgNP possessed strong antibacterial properties that were dependent on the release rate of Ag(+).
