This case series reviews previous publications and reports four feline spinal epidural empyema cases that presented with non-ambulatory thoracolumbar myelopathy. Two cats underwent myelography and two MRI. Bacteria were obtained in three cases, in two from epidural abscesses and from a tail base wound in one; histopathological examination of epidural tissue showed pyogranulomatous changes in the remaining cat.

Background: Glucocorticoids influence the synthesis and metabolism of catecholamines (epinephrine and norepinephrine) and metanephrines (metanephrine and normetanephrine). The aim of this study was to measure urinary catecholamines and metanephrines in dogs with hypercortisolism before and during trilostane therapy. Urine samples were collected during initial work up and during therapy with trilostane in 14 dogs with hypercortisolism and in 25 healthy dogs.

Case Series Summary: Infection of the domestic cat by Tritrichomonas blagburni, previously referred to as T foetus, may lead to a disease called feline trichomonosis, which manifests clinically as large bowel diarrhoea. The disease has a wide geographical distribution, including numerous countries in Europe, North America and Australia/Oceania. Nevertheless, it has occasionally been reported in Asia, South Korea and Japan.

Objective: Compare the efficacy of canine serum, fresh frozen plasma (FFP), freeze-thaw-cycled plasma (FTCP), and Solcoseryl(™) at inhibiting matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) 2 and 9 in vitro.

Procedure: Matrix metalloproteinases 2 and 9 activity in the presence of serum, FFP, FTCP, or Solcoseryl(™) was assayed using a commercially available fluorogenic gelatinase activity kit.

Results: Matrix metalloproteinases 2 activity in the presence of serum, FFP, FTCP, and Solcoseryl(™) was 20.

Background: A novel live porcine model replicated the endoscopic surgical field of a carotid arterial injury of the human skull base. Hemostatic techniques were applied to jugular venous and carotid arterial injuries, including muscle patches, hemoclips, and aneurysm clips. Doppler imaging distal to the injury assessed flow through the repaired vessel.

An 8-year-old, brachycephalic, mixed breed cat underwent full mouth tooth extractions for the treatment of tooth root abscessation. Subsequently, the cat developed anterior uveitis refractory to topical therapy that eventually necessitated enucleation. Actinomyces species were isolated from both the tooth root abscesses and the anterior chamber after enucleation.

Case Description: An 8-year-old castrated male mixed-breed dog (dog 1) and a 13-year-old spayed female mixed-breed dog (dog 2) were evaluated because of spontaneous pneumothorax.

Clinical Findings: Both dogs had decreased bronchovesicular sounds with coughing, tachypnea, cyanosis, lethargy, or a combination of these clinical signs. Radiographic examination revealed pneumothorax in both dogs and consolidation of a lung lobe in dog 2.
