The formation of an ion-association complex (IA) between sulfonephthalein dye and basic nitrogen-containing compound in an organic solvent medium has been for the first time used to develop an automated SIA method. In highly polar aprotic solvents, the tautomeric equilibrium for such dyes is strongly shifted towards the colorless lactonic form. The addition of a basic nitrogen-containing substance leads to the formation of IA with a highly colored quinonoid form, which is accompanied by an increase in the absorbance of the dye band at approximately 400 nm.

Pancoast tumors, also known as superior sulcus tumors, encompass a diverse spectrum of neoplasms that infiltrate the apex of the chest wall, yielding distinctive clinical presentations. One of the earliest signs of tumor growth is pain radiating to the upper limb, stemming from peripheral nerve involvement, which can mimic joint pain or spinal radicular irritation. In this case report, we present the clinical history of a 64-year-old female smoker who had previously been recommended for orthopedic elbow surgery due to epicondylitis.

The effect of 10% dietary flaxseed fed for 3 and 6 weeks on serum hormone levels of fattening gilts, the fatty acid (FA) follicular fluid (FF) composition of small and large antral follicles, and the steroidogenesis and IGF-I secretion by isolated small antral follicles and their response to regulatory hormones (LH, FSH, IGF-I) was studied using immunoassay and gas chromatography analyses. Both supplemental periods increased levels of P4 and IGF-I in blood serum. A shorter period inhibited steroidogenesis (P4, T, E2) and IGF-I secretion by small antral follicles, which was associated with decreased levels of monounsaturated FAs (MUFA) and preferred n-6 polyunsaturated FA (PUFA) metabolism.

RMD Open

February 2024

Department of Neurosciences, Rehabilitation, Ophthalmology, Genetics and Maternal-Infantile Sciences (DiNOGMI), University of Genoa, Genova, Italy.

Article Synopsis
  • Scientists worked on a special test called JDMAI to help doctors understand how active a disease called juvenile dermatomyositis is in kids.
  • They looked at information from 139 kids during a study and found numbers (cut-offs) that show different levels of the disease: inactive, low, moderate, and high activity.
  • The test is good at showing the disease's status by comparing it to how the kids feel and how they do in daily life, and it's ready to be used in hospitals and research.

Department of Chemistry, University of Nevada, Reno, 1664 N. Virginia Street, Reno, Nevada 89557-0216, United States; Department of Organic Chemistry, Educational Scientific Institute of Chemistry and Ecology, Uzhhorod National University, Fedinets', Str. 53/1, Uzhhorod 88000, Ukraine. Electronic address:

A new sensitive and selective extraction-less method for the spectrofluorimetric determination of Hg has been developed using the polymethine dye Astra Phloxine (AP) with requirements for green analytical chemistry. The principle of this method for analytical use is the formation of an ion associate (IA) in the presence of mercury ions and AP, which causes a change in the electronic structure of the dye cation and its subsequent fluorescence quenching. The IA created during the process was sufficiently stable in aqueous solutions and did not require the use of surfactants or organic solvents, which are typically used for similar analytical systems.

Transplantation of faecal microbiota (FMT) is generally considered a safe therapeutic procedure with few adverse effects. The main factors that limit the spread of the use of FMT therapy for idiopathic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are the necessity of minimising the risk of infection and transfer of another disease. Obtaining the animal model of UC (ulcerative colitis) by exposure to DSS (dextran sodium sulphate) depends on many factors that significantly affect the result.
