Intraosseous and intravenous vascular access during adult cardiac arrest: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Objective: To summarise evidence on the clinical effectiveness of initial vascular attempts via the intraosseous route compared to the intravenous route in adult cardiac arrest.

Methods: We searched MEDLINE and Embase (OVID platform), the Cochrane library, and the International Clinical Trials Registry Platform from inception to September 4th 2024 for randomised clinical trials comparing the intraosseous route with the intravenous route in adult cardiac arrest. Our primary outcome was 30-day survival.

Qualitative findings from North America's first drug compassion club.

In Canada, the ongoing fatal overdose crisis remains driven by the unpredictable potency and content of the illicit drug supply. From August 2022 until October 2023, the Drug User Liberation Front [DULF] operated a drug compassion club [CC], which sells drugs of known composition and purity without medical oversight. The present study is a qualitative evaluation of this project.

Ovarian Fetiform Teratoma in 38 Years Nulliparous Woman: A Case Report.

Fetiform teratoma, another name for homunculus, is a rare form of mature teratoma that is highly differentiated and has parts that resemble a malformed fetus. We reported a case of ovarian Fetiform teratoma in a 38 years old nulliparous woman presented with right side abdominal distention of 10 years duration. An ultrasound revealed a heterogeneous pelvic cystic mass that ranged in appearance from fully hyperechoic to fully hypoechoic, suggesting mature cystic teratoma.

Cytokine storm syndromes such as hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), Adult-onset Still's disease (AOSD), and COVID-19 cytokine storm (CCS) are characterized by markedly elevated inflammatory cytokines. However clinical measurement of serum cytokines is not widely available. This study examined the clinical utility of C-reactive protein (CRP) and ferritin, two inexpensive and widely available inflammatory markers, for distinguishing HLH from AOSD and CCS.

Objective: Despite knowledge that health outcomes vary according to patient characteristics, identity, and geography, including underrepresented populations in arthritis research remains a challenge. We conducted interviews to explore how researchers in arthritis have used equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) principles to inform their research.

Methods: Semistructured interviews were conducted with individuals who 1) have experience conducting arthritis research studies, 2) reside in and/or conduct their research in Canada, and 3) speak English or French.

Depression is common among people living with HCV and HIV, which contributes to health services utilization (HSU). It is unknown whether successful HCV treatment affects this. We examined depressive symptoms and HSU in people co-infected with HIV-HCV and their association with sustained virologic response (SVR) during the direct-acting antiviral era.

Background: Due to the specific anatomical features of the tibia (limited soft tissue coverage), more than a quarter of its fractures are classified as open, representing the most common open long-bone injuries. Despite its notoriously mild phenotype, the dystrophin-deficient mdx mouse is the most common model of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). By mimicking a human DMD-associated metabolic comorbidity, hyperlipidemia, in mdx mice by inactivating the apolipoprotein E gene (mdx-ApoE) we previously reported severe myofiber damage exacerbation via histology with large fibro-fatty infiltrates and phenotype humanization with ambulation dysfunction when fed a cholesterol- and triglyceride-rich Western diet (mdx-ApoE). Herein, we performed comparative lipidomic and metabolomic analyses of muscle, liver and serum samples from mdx and mdx-ApoE mice using solution and high-resolution-magic angle spinning (HR-MAS) H-NMR spectroscopy.

Cutaneous involvement of light chain deposition disease: A case report.
