miR-21 expression analysis in budding colon cancer cells by confocal slide scanning microscopy.

MicroRNA-21 (miR-21) expression in stromal fibroblastic cells in colorectal cancer is well-documented, whereas miR-21 expression in tumor budding cells (TBCs) is poorly described. TBCs are locally invasive carcinoma cells with increased metastatic properties and characteristics of epithelial to mesenchymal transition. This study was conducted to better characterize the expression of miR-21 in TBCs.

Scoring the tumor-stroma ratio in colon cancer: procedure and recommendations.

The tumor-stroma ratio (TSR) has been reported as a strong, independent prognostic parameter in colon cancer as well as in other epithelial cancer types, and may be implemented to routine pathology diagnostics. The TSR is an easy technique, based on routine hematoxylin and eosin stained histological sections, estimating the amount of stroma present in the primary tumor. It links tumors with high stromal content to poor prognosis.

Background: The microRNA-200 (miR-200) family acts as a major suppressor of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Impaired miR-200 expression may lead to EMT initiation and eventually cancer dissemination. The presence of tumor budding cells (TBC) is associated with metastasis and poor prognosis, and molecular similarities to EMT indicate that these cells may reflect ongoing EMT.

Materials And Methods: We identified a population-based cohort of patients in the Danish Hip Arthroplasty Register (DHR) who had primary THA and received their surgery in Jutland or Funen between 2005 and 2014. We followed the patients until revision, emigration, death, or up to 1-year of follow-up.

Introduction: Reducing hands-off time during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is believed to increase survival after cardiac arrests because of the sustaining of organ perfusion. The aim of our study was to investigate whether charging the defibrillator before rhythm analyses and shock delivery significantly reduced hands-off time compared with the European Resuscitation Council (ERC) 2010 CPR guideline algorithm in full-scale cardiac arrest scenarios.

Methods: The study was designed as a full-scale cardiac arrest simulation study including administration of drugs.

Discontinuation of steroids in ABO-incompatible renal transplantation.

A steroid-free protocol for ABO-compatible renal transplantation has been used at our center since 1983. To minimize the adverse effects of steroids, we also developed a steroid sparing protocol for ABO-incompatible renal transplantation in 2008. The present study is a report of our results.

It has previously been shown to provide a sensitive and specific instrument for general practitioner setting but has so far not been tested in hospital setting or for changes over time (test-retest). The aim of this study is, by means of a test-retest method, to investigate the reliability of the instrument over time with total hip replacement (THR) patients.

Intra-tumoural vessel area estimated by expression of epidermal growth factor-like domain 7 and microRNA-126 in primary tumours and metastases of patients with colorectal cancer: a descriptive study.

The identification of EGFR mutations in non-small-cell lung cancer is important for selecting patients, who may benefit from treatment with EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors. The analysis is usually performed on cytological aspirates and/or histological needle biopsies, representing a small fraction of the tumour volume. The aim of the present investigation was to evaluate the diagnostic performance of this molecular test.
