Potential therapeutic effects of Ivermectin in COVID-19.

COVID-19 is a critical pandemic that affected communities around the world, and there is currently no specific drug treatment for it. The virus enters the human cells via spikes and induces cytokine production and finally arrests the cell cycle. Ivermectin shows therapeutic potential for treating COVID-19 infection based on studies.

Oncologic outcomes of Bacillus Calmette-Guérin therapy in elderly patients with non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer: A meta-analysis.

Introduction: There is a challenge on the medical efficacy of intravesical Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) therapy and the power of the immune system boosting, which can be influenced by the age of the non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) patients. This meta-analysis evaluates the efficacy of BCG therapy among aged (>70) and younger patients with non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC).

Methods: The central database of PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science were queried until August 4, 2021, by using "BCG," "Bladder Cancer," "AGE," and "efficacy" keywords.

Objectives: Recurrent Kidney stone formation is a main medical problem imposing a significant burden on both healthcare and the economy worldwide. Environmental and genetic factors have been linked to a bigger risk of kidney stone formation. We aim to assess the role of methylation on recurrent stone formation in three target genes.

Six cases of occult sacral meningocele.

Background: Intrasacral occult sacral meningoceles (OSM) are uncommon congenital lesions that rarely become symptomatic, even over a patient's life time.

Methods: We operated on six patients with symptomatic OSM diagnosed on MR studies (all six) and/or CT examinations (four cases).

Results: All six patients had uneventful postoperative recoveries.

Mucormycosis infection in patients with COVID-19: A systematic review.

Introduction: Several reports previously described mucormycosis co-infection in patients with COVID-19. As mucormycosis and COVID-19 co-infection might adversely affect patients' outcomes, we aimed to systematically review the related evidence and the subsequent outcomes.

Methods: We conducted a systematic review of relevant articles searching the keywords in the online databases of PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Cochrane, and Web of Science.

Symptomatic thoracic ossified ligamentum flavum in achondroplasia: A case report and literature review.

Background: In a patient with achondroplasia, it is rare to encounter thoracic cord compression due to both spinal stenosis and ossification of the yellow ligament (OYL).

Case Description: A 33-year-old achondroplastic female presented with a progressive spastic paraparesis attributed to thoracic stenosis combined with T10-T11 OYL. Following a laminectomy, the patient demonstrated a marked recovery of neurological function.

Hyaluronic acid gel application versus ovarian suspension for prevention of ovarian adhesions during laparoscopic surgery on endometrioma: a double-blind randomized clinical trial.

Background: This study aimed to compare the effect of ovarian suspension and hyaluronic acid gel to prevent re-adhesions after laparoscopic endometrioma surgery.

Methods: This randomized clinical trial was conducted at Rasoul-e-Akram and Pars Hospitals, Tehran, Iran, 2016-18. Fifty patients with bilateral endometrioma and pelvic adhesions, the candidates of laparoscopic surgery, were included.

Unsupervised pseudo CT generation using heterogenous multicentric CT/MR images and CycleGAN: Dosimetric assessment for 3D conformal radiotherapy.

Purpose: Absorbed dose calculation in magnetic resonance-guided radiation therapy (MRgRT) is commonly based on pseudo CT (pCT) images. This study investigated the feasibility of unsupervised pCT generation from MRI using a cycle generative adversarial network (CycleGAN) and a heterogenous multicentric dataset. A dosimetric analysis in three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3DCRT) planning was also performed.

Symptomatic thoracic ossification of the ligamentum flavum in a patient with ankylosing spondylitis: Report of a case and review.

Background: Thoracic spinal cord compression due to both ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and ossification of the ligamentum flavum (OLF) is rare.

Case Description: A 33-year-old male with AS presented with a paraparesis attributed to MR documented T9-T10 OLF/stenosis. He was successfully managed with a decompressive laminectomy; this resulted in marked improvement of his deficit.

Introduction: Patients with COVID-19 may present different viral loads levels. However, the relationship between viral load and disease severity in COVID-19 is still unknown. Therefore, this study aimed to systematically review the association between SARS-CoV-2 viral load and COVID-19 severity.

Peroneal/posterior tibial nerves delayed dysfunction due to traumatic popliteal artery pseudoaneurysm resulting from trivial stab wound: A case report.

Background: Popliteal artery pseudoaneurysms due to stab wounds are extremely rate. Even more infrequently, they can contribute to the compression of multiple peripheral nerves.

Case Description: A 23-year-old male, following a trivial stab wound, developed the delayed occurrence of a pseudoaneurysm of the popliteal artery.

Recommendations for Infantile-Onset and Late-Onset Pompe Disease: An Iranian Consensus.

Pompe disease, also denoted as acid maltase or acid α-glucosidase deficiency or glycogen storage disease type II, is a rare, autosomal recessive lysosomal storage disorder. Several reports have previously described Pompe disease in Iran and considering increased awareness of related subspecialties and physicians, the disease's diagnosis is growing. This guideline's main objective was to develop a national guideline for Pompe disease based on national and international evidence adapting with national necessities.

Can laboratory tests at the time of admission guide us to the prognosis of patients with COVID-19?

Introduction: To enhance the COVID-19 patients' care and to optimize utilizing medical resources during the pandemic, relevant biomarkers are needed for prediction of the disease's progression. The current study was aimed to determine the factors that affect the mortality of COVID-19 patients admitted in Baharloo hospital in Iran.

Methods: in the current retrospective study, 56 survived patients and 56 patients who were died (a total of 112 cases) because of COVID-19 infection were randomly selected from those who were admitted to Baharloo hospital.

Case fatality rate of COVID-19: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Objective: The ongoing novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality due to its contagious nature and absence of vaccine and treatment. Although numerous primary studies reported extremely variable case fatality rate (CFR) of COVID-19, no review study attempted to estimate the CFR of COVID-19. The current systematic review and meta-analysis were aimed to assess the pooled CFR of COVID-19.

Nerve conduction assessment and magnetic resonance imaging for the diagnosis of localized hypertrophic neuropathy of the sciatic nerve and the lumbo-sacral plexus.

Localized hypertrophic neuropathy (LHN) are slowly growing nerve lesions causing progressive nerve deficit and weakness. We present the case of a 32-year old woman with long history of motor and sensory deficit complains along the sciatic nerve territory. The muscles involved were featured by delay in F waves at nerve conduction assessment.

Maternal and Fetal Outcomes of Pregnant Women Infected with Coronavirus Based on Tracking the Results of 90-Days Data in Hazrat -E- Rasoul Akram Hospital, Iran University of Medical Sciences.

Objective: To evaluate the maternal and fetal outcomes of COVID-19 up to three months after the delivery in pregnant women.

Methods: This case series study was conducted on all pregnant women with COVID-19 hospitalized in Hazrat -E- Rasoul Akram Hospital, Tehran, Iran from March 8, 2020 to December 28, 2020. Data were included maternal age and gestational age (GA) which presenting signs and symptoms were collected at hospital admission.

Comparing the effectiveness of Atazanavir/Ritonavir/Dolutegravir/Hydroxychloroquine and Lopinavir/Ritonavir/Hydroxychloroquine treatment regimens in COVID-19 patients.

The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of Atazanavir/Ritonavir/Dolutegravir/Hydroxychloroquine and Lopinavir/Ritonavir/Hydroxychloroquine treatment regimens in COVID-19 patients based on clinical and laboratory parameters. We prospectively evaluated the clinical and laboratory outcomes of 62 moderate to severe COVID-19 patients during a 10-day treatment plan. Patients were randomly assigned to either KH (receiving Lopinavir/Ritonavir [Kaletra] plus Hydroxychloroquine) or ADH (receiving Atazanavir/Ritonavir, Dolutegravir, and Hydroxychloroquine) groups.

Awareness of Iranian Medical Sciences Students Towards Basic Life Support; a Cross-Sectional study.

Introduction: Augmentation of the number of trained basic life support (BLS) providers can remarkably reduce the number of cardiac arrest victims. The aim of this study was to evaluate the level of BLS awareness among students of medical sciences in Iran.
