Phaeochromocytomas and paragangliomas (PPGLs) are rare neuroendocrine tumours with a strong genetic predisposition, involving over 20 genes and with germline pathogenic variants identified in 40 % of cases. The succinate dehydrogenase (SDHx) genes are the most commonly implicated in hereditary PPGLs, accounting for 20 % of cases, and present unique diagnostic and treatment challenges due to their potential for multiple, recurrent, and aggressive manifestations, often necessitating lifelong follow-up. Over the past two decades, advances in biochemical and imaging assessments, management, and follow-up protocols have significantly improved care for both adult and paediatric patients.

: Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) was developed for inoperable patients with severe aortic stenosis. However, despite TAVR advancements, some patients remain untreated due to complex comorbidities, necessitating less-invasive approaches. Non-invasive ultrasound therapy (NIUT), a new treatment modality, has the potential to address this treatment gap, delivering short ultrasound pulses that create cavitation bubble clouds, aimed at softening embedded calcification in stiffened valve tissue.

Aims: Dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) can be shortened up to 1 month in high-bleeding risk (HBR) patients receiving a contemporary biodegradable-polymer sirolimus-eluting stent. We aimed to summarize the evidence on a similar DAPT regimen after biodegradable-polymer everolimus-eluting stent (EES) implantation in patients at HBR.
Methods And Results: We pooled the individual participant data from the available trials evaluating this strategy, namely, the SENIOR and the POEM trials.

The optimal treatment for full-thickness burn injuries involves surgical intervention, which may include skin grafting or reconstruction by flap. The complexity of treatment arises from the need for both effective temporary wound coverage and permanent skin restoration while also considering the potential risk of finger amputation in the case of hand burn. A 22-year-old woman sustained a thermal burn of three fingers while participating in an art activity involving wax hand molding.

Background: We aimed to estimate the effect of extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR) on neurological outcome and mortality, when compared to conventional cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CCPR), using an individual patient data meta-analysis (IPDMA).
Methods: A systematic literature search was performed up to the 20th of October 2022 in the PubMed, EMBASE and CENTRAL databases. For observational studies with unmatched populations, a propensity score including age, location of arrest and initial rhythm was used to match ECPR and CCPR patients in a 1:1 ratio.

Background: Exposure to ionizing radiation has been linked to cardiovascular diseases. However, the impact of moderate doses of radiation on abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) remains unknown.
Methods: Angiotensin II-infused Apoe-/- mice were irradiated (acute, 1 Gray) either 3 days before (Day-3) or 1 day after (Day+1) pomp implantation.

Although patients with homozygous sickle cell anemia (SCA) carry both significant left atrial (LA) remodeling and an increased risk of stroke, the prevalence of atrial arrhythmia (AA) has never been prospectively evaluated. The aim of this study was to identify the prevalence and predictors of atrial arrhythmia in SCA. From 2018 to 2022, consecutive adult patients with SCA were included in the DREPACOEUR prospective registry and referred to the physiology department for cardiac evaluation, including a 24-hour electrocardiogram monitoring (ECG-Holter).

Food intake and energy expenditure are sensed and processed by multiple brain centres to uphold energy homeostasis. Evidence from the past decade points to the brain vasculature as a new critical player in regulating energy balance that functions in close association with the local neuronal networks. Nutritional imbalances alter many properties of the neurovascular system (such as neurovascular coupling and blood-brain barrier permeability), thus suggesting a bidirectional link between the nutritional milieu and neurovascular health.

Introduction: Aspirin and anti-P2Y12 are widely prescribed in cardiovascular patients, often in combination with proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) to limit the risk of upper gastrointestinal bleedings. The potential interaction between PPIs and antiplatelet agents has been widely discussed, but doubts remain as to whether PPIs may reduce the cardiovascular protection provided by aspirin, prasugrel, ticagrelor, and clopidogrel.
Areas Covered: Many pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) studies have confirmed the interaction, especially between PPIs and clopidogrel, but with uncertain consequences on clinical outcomes.

Background: The long isoform of the Wnk1 (with-no-lysine [K] kinase 1) is a ubiquitous serine/threonine kinase, but its role in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) pathophysiology remains unknown.
Methods: AngII (angiotensin II) was infused in to induce experimental aortic aneurysm. Mice carrying an allele were cross-bred with mice carrying a floxed allele to specifically investigate the functional role of Wnk1 in VSMCs.

While the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) might have increased acute episodes in people living with sickle cell disease (SCD), it may also have changed their reliance on emergency department (ED) services. We assessed the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns on ED visits in adult SCD people followed in five French reference centres, with a special focus on 'high users' (≥10 visits in 2019). We analysed the rate of ED visits from 1 January 2015 to 31 December 2021, using a self-controlled case series.

Background: Carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (cfPWV) is the gold standard for noninvasive arterial stiffness assessment, an independent predictor of cardiovascular disease, and a potential parameter to guide therapy. However, cfPWV is not routinely measured in clinical practice due to the unavailability of a low-cost, operator-friendly, and independent device. The current study validated a novel laser Doppler vibrometry (LDV)-based measurement of cfPWV against the reference technique.

Lower extremity peripheral artery disease (PAD) often results from atherosclerosis, and is highly prevalent in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Individuals with T2DM exhibit a more severe manifestation and a more distal distribution of PAD compared to those without diabetes, adding complexity to the therapeutic management of PAD in this particular patient population. Indeed, the management of PAD in patients with T2DM requires a multidisciplinary and individualized approach that addresses both the systemic effects of diabetes and the specific vascular complications of PAD.

Background: Right ventricular impairment is common among patients undergoing transcatheter edge-to-edge repair for secondary mitral regurgitation (SMR). Adherence to guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) for heart failure is poor in these patients.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of GDMT on long-term survival in this patient cohort.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of intensive care units (ICUs) and their organization in healthcare systems. However, ICU capacity and availability are ongoing concerns beyond the pandemic, particularly due to an aging population and increasing complexity of care. This study aimed to assess the current and future shortage of ICU physicians in France, ten years after a previous evaluation.
