Neutrophils are essential for host defense against infections, but they also play a key role in acute and chronic inflammation. The protein tyrosine phosphatase non-receptor type 22 (PTPN22) gene encodes the lymphoid-specific tyrosine phosphatase (Lyp) and a genetic single-nucleotide polymorphism of PTPN22 rs2476601 (R620W) has been associated with several human autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Here, we investigated the role of Lyp in TNFα-induced priming of neutrophil ROS production and in the development of arthritis using new selective Lyp inhibitors.

Objectives: Prone positioning (PP) has benefits in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome. The objective of this study was to compare the effects and complications of PP in obese versus non-obese patients with moderate-to-severe acute respiratory distress syndrome after cardiothoracic surgery.
Methods: We retrospectively analysed a database established in 2014-2021 in an intensive care unit.

Venous leg ulcer refers to chronic wounds, generally difficult to heal and often prone to recurrence. The objective of this research was to assess a double layered compression stocking VenoTrain® ulcertec on a population with mostly severe pathologies. This prospective, multicenter, interventional type II study was conducted between September 2018 and January 2022.

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) presents a notable healthcare burden, particularly among the elderly, who experience increased risks and more severe complications. This review aims to use the extensive data from the RIETE registry, a comprehensive database on consecutive patients with VTE. We examine the clinical features, therapeutic approaches, and patient outcomes of VTE in elderly patients, compared to younger patients, offering a comprehensive understanding of management challenges and emphasizing the need for strategies that accommodate the unique challenges of this population.

Purpose: Pain management in orthopaedic manipulation in the emergency department (ED) is crucial to decrease fracture reduction performed in the operating room. This study compared intranasal fentanyl (INF) with oral morphine in time of care and effectiveness on pain during the reduction of bone fractures in a pediatric trauma center.
Methods: A before-and-after INF implementation study was conducted in a pediatric ED with a trauma center on children with a confirmed displaced closed fracture on radiographs with reduction and casting performed in the ED.

Purpose: The efficacy of the 1-h bundle for emergency department (ED) patients with suspected sepsis, which includes lactate measurement, blood culture, broad-spectrum antibiotics administration, administration of 30 mL/kg crystalloid fluid for hypotension or lactate ≥ 4 mmol/L, remains controversial.
Methods: We carried out a pragmatic stepped-wedge cluster-randomized trial in 23 EDs in France and Spain. Adult patients with Sepsis-3 criteria or a quick sequential organ failure assessment (SOFA) score ≥ 2 or a lactate > 2 mmol/L were eligible.

Background: The effectiveness of physiotherapist-led Cognitive Behavioural Interventions (CBI) with or without physiotherapy is still unclear.
Objective: This systematic review (PROSPERO registration number CRD42022321073) aims to determine the effectiveness of physiotherapist-led CBI with or without physiotherapy in comparison to physiotherapy alone on quality of life, disabilities and catastrophization.
Methods: MEDLINE, Web of Science, Science Direct, and PEDro were searched for randomized controlled trials that investigate the use of CBI versus conventional physiotherapy in chronic NSLBP.

The production of superoxide anions and other reactive oxygen species (ROS) by neutrophils is necessary for host defense against microbes. However, excessive ROS production can induce cell damage that participates in the inflammatory response. Superoxide anions are produced by the phagocyte NADPH oxidase, a multicomponent enzyme system consisting of two transmembrane proteins (gp91phox/NOX2 and p22phox) and four soluble cytosolic proteins (p40phox, p47phox, p67phox and the small G proteins Rac1/2).

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) typically presents with a primary hepatic mass. Nevertheless, on rare occasions, the initial presentation can be exclusively related to extrahepatic metastases and the most common sites of metastases are the lungs, lymph nodes, bones, and adrenal glands. While, bone metastases are generally accompanied by multiple metastatic spreads elsewhere in the body or previously diagnosed HCC, cases of solitary bone metastases with no liver lesion at imaging have been reported.

Background: Heparin-bonded expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (hb-ePTFE) synthetic grafts are an alternative to autologous vein grafts (AVG) for surgical bypass interventions in lower limb peripheral arterial disease (LLPAD). However, the clinical benefits of hb-ePTFE grafts have not been reviewed systematically for patients undergoing below-the-knee (BK) surgical bypass. This study aimed to meta-analyze available data on the utility of hb-ePTFE in patients undergoing BK surgical bypass.

Introduction: During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the Gustave Roussy Cancer Center introduced teleconsultation via telephone, as an alternative to face-to-face consultation to reduce patient hospital visits. This study was designed to assess patient and doctor satisfaction with this modality of care in oncology patient care during the period of the pandemic and beyond.
Methods: We designed two questionnaires based on validated scores to assess satisfaction from teleconsultation in patients (EORTC OUT-PATSAT 35 and Telemedicine Satisfaction Questionnaire [TSQ] scores) and doctors (Telehealth Usability Questionnaire [TUQ]), and anxiety levels in both groups (anxiety section of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale [HADS], HADS-A).

Aims: Post-traumatic periprosthetic acetabular fractures are rare but serious. Few studies carried out on small cohorts have reported them in the literature. The aim of this work is to describe the specific characteristics of post-traumatic periprosthetic acetabular fractures, and the outcome of their surgical treatment in terms of function and complications.

Aims: The risk factors for abnormal spinopelvic mobility (SPM), defined as an anterior rotation of the spinopelvic tilt (∆SPT) ≥ 20° in a flexed-seated position, have been described. The implication of pelvic incidence (PI) is unclear, and the concept of lumbar lordosis (LL) based on anatomical limits may be erroneous. The distribution of LL, including a unusual shape in patients with a high lordosis, a low pelvic incidence, and an anteverted pelvis seems more relevant.

Background And Importance: Ultrasound-guided femoral nerve block (FNB) could be used as part of a multimodal preoperative pain management for patients with hip fracture. Evidence of the effects of its early implementation in the emergency room as an immediate alternative to intravenous morphine titration is sparse.
Objective: To investigate the effect of an early ultrasound-guided FNB performed by emergency physicians on preoperative opioid consumption, compared to standard pain management.
