Background: Precise data about ATTR-CM incidence rates at national level are scarce. Consequently, this study aimed to estimate the annual incidence and survival of transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy (ATTR-CM) in France between 2011 and 2019 using real world data. We used the French nationwide exhaustive data (SNDS database) gathering in- and out-patient claims.

Biweekly vs Triweekly Cabazitaxel in Older Patients With Metastatic Castration-Resistant Prostate Cancer: The CABASTY Phase 3 Randomized Clinical Trial.

Importance: Many patients 65 years or older with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) are denied taxane chemotherapy because this treatment is considered unsuitable.

Objective: To determine whether biweekly cabazitaxel (CBZ), 16 mg/m2 (biweekly CBZ16), plus prophylactic granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) at each cycle reduces the risk of grade 3 or higher neutropenia and/or neutropenic complications (eg, febrile neutropenia, neutropenic infection, or sepsis) compared with triweekly CBZ, 25 mg/m2 (triweekly CBZ25), plus G-CSF (standard regimen).

Design, Setting, And Participants: A total of 196 patients 65 years or older with progressive mCRPC were enrolled in this prospective phase 3 randomized clinical trial conducted in France (18 centers) and Germany (7 centers) between May 5, 2017, and January 7, 2021.

Lymphoma in Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Multicentre Collaborative Study Between GETAID and LYSA.

Background: Inflammatory bowel disease [IBD] is associated with an increased risk of developing lymphoma. Although recent data have clarified the epidemiology of lymphoma in IBD patients, the clinical and pathological characteristics of lymphoma in IBD remain poorly known.

Methods: Patients with IBD and lymphoma were retrospectively identified in the framework of a national collaborative study including the Groupe d'Étude Thérapeutique des Affections Inflammatoires du Tube Digestif [GETAID] and the Lymphoma Study Association [LYSA].

Evaluation of a prophylactic transfusion program on obstetric outcomes in pregnant women with sickle cell disease: A single centre retrospective cohort study.

Objective: To evaluate the effects of a prophylactic transfusion program (TP) on obstetric and perinatal outcomes in pregnant women with sickle cell disease (SCD).

Methods: This retrospective cohort study included all singleton pregnancies among women with SCD in a French university tertiary care center between 1 January 2004 and 31 December 2017. The TP group included patients selected according to the French guidelines who received regular red blood cell transfusions during pregnancy until delivery.

CSMD1 rs10503253 increases schizophrenia risk in a Tunisian population-group.

Objectives: Schizophrenia is a complex and chronic neuropsychiatric disorder. Recent genome-wide association studies have identified several at risk genetic variants, including two single nucleotide polymorphisms, namely the rs10503253 and the rs1270942 respectively located in the CSMD1 and the CFB loci. The present case-control study was designed to assess potential associations between the two variants and the risk of developing schizophrenia and disease severity.

High unrecognized SARS-CoV-2 exposure of newly admitted and hospitalized psychiatric patients.

Background: Patients with pre-existing mental disorders are at higher risk for SARS-CoV-2 infection and adverse outcomes, and severe mental illness, including mood and psychosis spectrum disorders, is associated with increased mortality risk. Despite their increased risk profile, patients with severe mental illness have been understudied during the pandemic, with limited estimates of exposure in inpatient settings.

Objective: The aim of this study was to describe the SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence and antibody titers, and pro-inflammatory cytokine concentrations of newly admitted or hospitalized psychiatric inpatients without known history of COVID-19 infection, using robust quantitative multi-antigen assessments, and compare patients' exposure to that of hospital staff.

The PDCD1-encoded immune checkpoint receptor PD-1 is a key tumor suppressor in T cells that is recurrently inactivated in T cell non-Hodgkin lymphomas (T-NHLs). The highest frequencies of PDCD1 deletions are detected in advanced disease, predicting inferior prognosis. However, the tumor-suppressive mechanisms of PD-1 signaling remain unknown.

Association between acetaminophen use and vitiligo in US women and men.

Background/objectives: Exposure to chemical phenols, which can act as tyrosine analogues and result in anti-melanocyte autoimmunity, has been associated with vitiligo. Acetaminophen (N-acetyl-p-aminophenol) is an over-the-counter analgesic of phenolic origin. The risk of vitiligo with systemic exposure to acetaminophen has not yet been evaluated.

Disease risk estimates in V30M variant transthyretin amyloidosis (A-ATTRv) from Mallorca.

Background: Variant transthyretin amyloidosis (A-ATTRv) is an autosomal dominant disease caused by a range of TTR gene variants which entail great phenotypical heterogeneity and penetrance. In Majorca, the A-ATTRv caused by the V30M gene variant (A-ATTRV30M) is the most common. Since asymptomatic carriers are at risk of developing the disease, estimating age of onset is vital for proper management and follow-up.

Retrospective study on the association of human herpesvirus reactivation with severe DRESS: A description of blood and skin reactivations.

Background: Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms (DRESS) is a severe adverse event (mortality of 10%). Its pathophysiology involves herpesviruses, particularly HHV-6, but the exact mechanisms are still poorly understood.

Objective: To describe severe cases of DRESS and especially their association with herpesvirus reactivation.

Stargardt disease-associated in-frame ABCA4 exon 17 skipping results in significant ABCA4 function.

Background: ABCA4, the gene implicated in Stargardt disease (STGD1), contains 50 exons, of which 17 contain multiples of three nucleotides. The impact of in-frame exon skipping is yet to be determined. Antisense oligonucleotides (AONs) have been investigated in Usher syndrome-associated genes to induce skipping of in-frame exons carrying severe variants and mitigate their disease-linked effect.

How anesthesiology can deal with innovation and new technologies?

Innovation and new technologies have always impacted significantly the anesthesiology practice all along the perioperative course, as it is recognized as one of the most transformative medical specialties specifically regarding patient's safety. Beside a number of major changes in procedures, equipment, training, and organization that aggregated to establish a strong safety culture with effective practices, anesthesiology is also a stakeholder in disruptive innovation. The present review is not exhaustive and aims to provide an overview on how innovation could change and improve anesthesiology practices through some examples as telemedicine (TM), machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI).

Background And Objectives: Activation of the complement system is involved in the pathogenesis of anti-glomerular basement membrane (anti-GBM) disease. Glomerular deposits of complement 3 (C3) are often detected on kidney biopsies. The primary objective of this study was to analyze the prognostic value of the serum C3 level and the presence of C3 glomerular deposits in patients with anti-GBM disease.

Review article: Updated management of acute severe ulcerative colitis: From steroids to novel medical strategies.

Acute severe ulcerative colitis (ASUC) occurs in up to 25% of patients with ulcerative colitis (UC). Therapeutic approaches have evolved during the past years with the increasing bio exposure of admitted patients and the extension of the number of approved drugs for UC. In this review, we aimed to summarize the latest evidence in short-term and long-term medical strategies for ASUC.

Impact of COVID-19 on the management of hepatocellular carcinoma in a high-prevalence area: What's new 12 months later?

Introduction And Objectives: The lockdown policy introduced in 2020 to minimize the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, significantly affected the management and care of patients affected by hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The aim of this follow-up study was to determine the 12 months impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the cohort of patients affected by HCC during the lockdown, within six French academic referral centers in the metropolitan area of Paris.

Materials And Methods: We performed a 12 months follow-up of the cross-sectional study cohort included in 2020 on the management of patients affected by HCC during the first six weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic (exposed), compared to the same period in 2019 (unexposed).
