The fibroblast growth factor-2 (FGF-2) is a critical protein for biological processes such as angiogenesis and tissue regeneration. Recently, hydrogels based on semi-synthetic sulfated polysaccharides have been developed for the controlled delivery of FGF-2. These affinity-based FGF-2 carriers utilizing hydrogels based on sulfated polysaccharides enable sustained delivery of FGF-2, yet choice of materials is limited.

The development of RNA-based drugs is highly pursued due to the possibility of creating viable and effective therapies. However, their translation to clinical practice strongly depends on efficient technologies to produce substantial levels of these biomolecules, with high purity and high quality. RNAs are commonly produced by chemical or enzymatic methods, displaying these limitations.

Background: Creatinine-based equations are the most used to estimate glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). The Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration (CKD-EPI), the re-expressed Lund-Malmö Revised (r-LMR) and the European Kidney Function Consortium (EKFC) equations are the most validated. The EKFC and r-LMR equations have been suggested to have better performances in young adults, but this is debated.

Purpose: Non-optimal vaginal microbiota lacking lactobacilli and comprising a wide array of anaerobic bacteria, typified by community state type (CST) IV, have been associated with adverse gynecological and pregnancy outcomes. Here, we investigate the stability of the vaginal microbiota sampled every 6 months over 18 months and how samples distantly collected combined with exposures could provide insight on future microbiota compositional changes.
Methods: Vaginal microbiota dynamics were analyzed in 241 female students aged 18-24 years and negative for Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae.

Importance: Since 2005, a total of 50 face transplants have been reported from 18 centers in 11 countries. The overall survival of the grafts has not yet been established.
Objective: To assess the survival of the face transplant grafts and evaluate factors potentially influencing it.

Purpose: To determine whether the clinical and paraclinical course of Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy (FECD) over 1 year is related to the extent of triplet repetition in the transcription factor 4 (TCF4) gene.
Methods: A prospective study with a 1-year follow-up was conducted. A total of 104 patients (160 eyes) with FECD and an equivalent number of age- and sex-matched control subjects without FECD were included.

Recent studies highlighted genetic aberrations associated with prognosis in Mantle Cell lymphoma (MCL), yet comprehensive testing is not implemented in clinical routine. We conducted a comprehensive genomic characterization of 180 patients from the European MCL network trials by targeted sequencing of peripheral blood DNA using the EuroClonality(EC)-NDC assay. The IGH::CCND1 fusion was identified in 94% of patients, clonal IGH-V-(D)-J rearrangements in all, and 79% had ≥1 somatic gene mutation.

This research investigates the potential of mechanosynthesis to transform inert waste mixtures into sustainable construction materials. Three waste streams were employed: recycled glass, recycled concrete, and excavated soils. Two alternative material formulations, F1 (50% recycled concrete, 30% recycled glass, 20% excavated soil) and F2 (60% excavated soil, 20% recycled concrete, 20% recycled glass), were developed.

Cervical cancer related to high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) is the second female cancer in Mauritania (Northwest Sahelian Africa). We assessed the distribution of HPV genotypes in Mauritanian women with high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN2/3) or invasive cervical cancer (ICC). A prospective study was conducted in the Centre Hospitalier National, Nouakchott, Mauritania, to collect cervical biopsies among women suspected of CIN2/3 or cancer.

The analysis of eye movements has proven valuable for understanding brain function and the neuropathology of various disorders. This research aims to utilize eye movement data analysis as a screening tool for differentiation between eight different groups of pathologies, including scholar, neurologic, and postural disorders. Leveraging a dataset from 20 clinical centers, all employing AIDEAL and REMOBI eye movement technologies this study extends prior research by considering a multi-annotation setting, incorporating information from recordings from saccade and vergence eye movement tests, and using contextual information (e.

Large B-cell lymphoma (LBCL) is a heterogeneous lymphoid malignancy in which MYC gene rearrangement (MYC-R) is associated with a poor prognosis, prompting the recommendation for more intensive treatment. MYC-R detection relies on fluorescence in situ hybridization method which is time consuming, expensive, and not available in all laboratories. Automating MYC-R detection on hematoxylin-and-eosin-stained whole slide images of LBCL would decrease the need for costly molecular testing and improve pathologists' productivity.

Borderline personality disorder (BPD) and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) share common risk factors, including exposure to traumatic events. We aim to estimate networks of BPD and PTSD to describe the interactions between the symptoms of these 2 disorders and identify bridging symptoms between the 2 diagnoses that may play critical roles in their co-occurrence. We performed a network analysis of data from the second wave of the National Epidemiologic Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions (NESARC 2004-2005), a nationally representative sample of the US adult population.

Design of catalysts for Ni-catalyzed olefin polymerization predominantly focuses on ligand design rather than the activation process when attempting to achieve a broader scope of polyolefin micro- and macrostructures. Air-stable alkyl-or aryl-functionalized Ni precatalysts were designed which eliminate the need of in situ alkylating processes and are activated solely by halide abstraction to generate the cationic complex for olefin polymerization. These complexes represent an emerging class of olefin polymerization catalysts, enabling the study of various cocatalysts forming either inner- or outer-sphere ion pairs.

Virulence of apicomplexan parasites is based on their ability to divide rapidly to produce significant biomass. The regulation of their cell cycle is therefore key to their pathogenesis. Phosphorylation is a crucial posttranslational modification that regulates many aspects of the eukaryotic cell cycle.

Esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC) is a highly lethal cancer of the upper gastrointestinal tract with rising incidence in western populations. To decipher EAC disease progression and therapeutic response, we performed multiomic analyses of a cohort of primary and metastatic EAC tumors, incorporating single-nuclei transcriptomic and chromatin accessibility sequencing, along with spatial profiling. We identified tumor microenvironmental features previously described to associate with therapy response.

Cow's milk allergy (CMA) is one of the most common presentations of food allergy in early childhood. Management of CMA involves individualized avoidance of cow's milk and other mammalian milk and foods containing these. Optimal elimination of cow's milk avoidance includes: label reading; information about safe and nutritious substitute foods; appropriate choice of infant formula or a plant-based food; establishing tolerance to baked milk and monitoring nutritional intake and growth.

Background And Objective: Failure rates after first-line treatment of localized prostate cancer (PCa) treatment remain high; therefore, it is essential to improve the selection and identification of at-risk patients to reduce mortality. The aim of the ANDROCAN study was to evaluate the biochemical recurrence (BCR) in patients with localized PCa treated by total prostatectomy at 5 yr after surgery, according to their presurgery gonadal status.
Methods: A prospective cohort study was conducted including 1318 patients undergoing total prostatectomy for localized PCa with a 5-yr postoperative follow-up.
