Background: To describe the use of life-sustaining therapies and mortality in patients with acute leukemia admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU).

Methods: The PubMed database was searched from January 1st, 2000 to July 1st, 2023. All studies including adult critically ill patients with acute leukemia were included.

Patient-derived xenografts (PDX) of breast cancer, obtained from the engraftment of tumour samples into immunodeficient mice, are the most effective preclinical models for studying the biology of human breast cancer and for the evaluation of new anti-cancer treatments. Notably, breast cancer PDX preserve the phenotypic and molecular characteristics of the donor tumours and reproduce the diversity of breast cancer. This preservation of breast cancer biology involves a number of different aspects, including tumour architecture and morphology, patterns of genomic alterations and gene expression, mutational status, and intra-tumour heterogeneity.

Cellular barcoding comprises all techniques designed to genetically label single cells with unique DNA sequences or with a combination of fluorescent proteins, in order to trace their history and lineage production in space and time.

Comparative study of HoLEP in elderly patients with indwelling catheters: a retrospective dual-center study.

Introduction: This study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of HoLEP in patients aged > 85 years with indwelling catheter (IDC).

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed our bicentric HoLEP database to identify consecutive patients with IDC and trial without catheter (TWOC) failure who underwent surgery between June 2012 and April 2020. Our primary focus was on the population over 85 years of age; Patients under 70 years of age were used as controls.

This process has diverse functions depending on the cell types involved and physiological or disease context. Although mitochondria transfer was first shown to provide metabolic support to acceptor cells, recent studies have revealed diverse functions of mitochondria transfer, including, but not limited to, the maintenance of mitochondria quality of the donor cell and the regulation of tissue homeostasis and remodelling.

Amelioration of a von Willebrand disease type 2B phenotype in vivo upon treatment with allele-selective siRNAs.

Treatment options for the bleeding disorder von Willebrand disease type 2B (VWD2B) are insufficient and fail to address the negative effects of circulating mutant von Willebrand factor (VWF). The dominant-negative nature of VWD2B makes functionally defective VWF an interesting therapeutic target. Previous in vitro studies have demonstrated the feasibility of allele-selective silencing of mutant VWF using small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) targeting common single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the human VWF gene, an approach that can be applied irrespective of the disease-causing VWF mutation.

Herein, we report a rationally designed universal passivator to realize highly efficient and stable single junction and tandem PSCs. Irradiation of condensed matter with ionizing radiation generally causes direct photoionization as well as secondary processes that often dominate the ionization dynamics. Here, large helium (He) nanodroplets with radius ≳ 40 nm doped with lithium (Li) atoms are irradiated with extreme ultraviolet (XUV) photons of energy hν ≥ 44.4 eV and indirect ionization of the Li dopants is observed in addition to direct photoionization of the He droplets.

Urinary prostaglandin metabolites evaluation for activity monitoring in inflammatory bowel disease.

Inflammatory bowel diseases cause chronic intestinal inflammation, including Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC). Prostaglandin E-major urinary metabolite (PGE-MUM) is a urine biomarker for disease activity in IBD. This study evaluated PGE-MUM performance for predicting an active disease in patients with CD and UC.

Development of a core patient-reported outcome set for use in HIV care at the individual patient level in Montreal: protocol for a two-phased multimethod project.

Introduction: There is international interest in using patient-reported outcome measures in HIV care to improve the well-being of people with HIV, but the prioritisation of specific outcomes and measures remains unclear. This project's objective is to engage both people with HIV and healthcare, social and community service providers to develop a French and English-language core set of patient-reported outcomes and measures for use in HIV care at the patient level in Montreal (Canada).

Methods And Analysis: This multimethod project will follow guidance from the Core Outcome Measures in Effectiveness Trials Initiative and involve two phases.

Computerized cognitive training for problem gambling: A randomized controlled trial (TRAIN-online).

Background: Non-face-to-face interventions offer promise, with cognitive training showing potential but inconsistent efficacy in problem gambling.

Methods: We conducted a non-face-to-face, parallel, randomized, controlled, single-blinded trial to evaluate training programs in adults with problem gambling (CPGI ≥5). Participants were randomized 1:1 to a web-based cognitive training program targeting inhibition unrelated to addiction cues or a control program on visuo-spatial functioning.

Observing lip movements of a speaker facilitates speech understanding, especially in challenging listening situations. Converging evidence from neuroscientific studies shows stronger neural responses to audiovisual stimuli compared to audio-only stimuli. However, the interindividual variability of this contribution of lip movement information and its consequences on behavior are unknown.

Live-cell microscopy routinely provides massive amounts of time-lapse images of complex cellular systems under various physiological or therapeutic conditions. However, this wealth of data remains difficult to interpret in terms of causal effects. Here, we describe CausalXtract, a flexible computational pipeline that discovers causal and possibly time-lagged effects from morphodynamic features and cell-cell interactions in live-cell imaging data.
