Research Question: Is there a relationship between embryo quality, pregnancy rates and apoptotic gene expression in cumulus cells of oocytes collected from patients with poor ovarian response and polycystic ovary syndrome?

Design: Fifty infertile couples who underwent assisted reproductive technology treatment were included in the study (Approval date 4 February 2020, number 03). The patients were divided into four group: control (n = 9; 90 oocytes), unexplained infertility (n = 8; 86 oocytes), polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) (n = 6; 137 oocytes) and poor ovarian response (POR) (n = 27; 124 oocytes). Cumulus cells were isolated individually from 437 oocytes obtained.

  • Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) is a complex genetic disorder that can lead to serious complications like blood clots, and recent studies show positive results from a treatment called eculizumab.
  • In a study of 138 PNH patients treated with eculizumab in Turkey from 2008 to 2018, common symptoms included fatigue and hemoglobinuria, with significant improvements in hemoglobin and lactate dehydrogenase levels noted after seven months of therapy.
  • The findings suggest that eculizumab is effective and well-tolerated, with minimal serious adverse events reported among the patients.

Background: Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a heterogeneous bone disorder characterized by recurrent fractures. Although most cases of OI have heterozygous mutations in or and show autosomal dominant inheritance, during the last years there has been an explosion in the number of genes responsible for both recessive and dominant forms of this condition. Herein, we have analyzed a cohort of patients with OI, all offspring of unaffected parents, to determine the spectrum of variants accounting for these cases.

This study was conducted to assess ocular pulse amplitude and retinal nerve fibre layer in patients with multiple sclerosis and their correlation with disease duration and with severity. Retinal nerve fibre layer thickness was measured by Heidelberg Retinal Tomography II (HRT-II; Heidelberg Engineering, Dossenheim, Germany) and ocular pulse amplitude was measured by dynamic contour tonometry (Ziemer Ophthalmic Systems, Port, Switzerland) in 37 multiple sclerosis patients and 72 age- and gender-matched controls. Ocular pulse amplitude was significantly reduced and retinal nerve fibre layer was significantly thinner in temporal, superotemporal, and nasal sectors in patients with multiple sclerosis regardless of having an optic neuritis attack.
