Although Kawasaki disease is often self-limiting, significant cardiovascular sequelae may occur in the acute or late stage. The most common late complication is persistent coronary artery aneurysm, which can lead to myocardial ischaemia and even myocardial infarction. We report a case of coronary artery bypass grafting in a 16-year-old boy with a history of undiagnosed Kawasaki disease.

Introduction And Hypothesis: This study aims to compare the effectiveness of intravaginal electrical stimulation (IVES) with regard to quality of life (QoL) and clinical parameters related to incontinence in women with idiopathic overactive bladder (iOAB) naive or refractory to treatment with pharmacological agents (PhA).

Methods: In this prospective trial, PhA-naive women were included in Group 1 (n = 24) and women with PhA-resistant iOAB were included in Group 2 (n = 24). IVES was performed 3 days a week, with a total of 24 sessions for 8 weeks.

Background: Galectins are a family of endogenous mammalian lectins involved in pathogen recognition, killing, and facilitating the entry of microbial pathogens and parasites into the host. They are the intermediators that decipher glycan-containing information about the host immune cells and microbial structures to modulate signaling events that cause cellular proliferation, chemotaxis, cytokine secretion, and cell-to-cell communication. They have subgroups that take place in different roles in the immune system.

The use of animals in research has increasingly continued, although there are serious concerns about appropriate methodology, moral issues and translation to clinical practice. The aim of the present article is to review the insufficiency of statements in ethical approvals to obtain animal welfare in real life practices and to draw attention to the need for an additional evidence-based audit system. In many countries, local Animal Ethics Committees are established to ensure that animals are treated in accordance with 3Rs (Replace, Reduce, Refine) principles.

In this paper, our main objective was to emphasize the competency of extended deltopectoral exposure, enforced with the supraspinatus and subscapularis detachment, to gain access to the entire head. The second important point in this paper was to underline the importance of the knowledge that is necessary for interpreting classic radiologic signs of posterior fracture-dislocation of the shoulder. A 47-year-old woman fell down directly onto her shoulder while she was skiing.

Patients with primary Sjogren's syndrome (pSS) may go undiagnosed or be misclassified due to the insidious nature and wide spectrum of the disease. The available several classification criteria emphasize glandular findings. We aimed to analyze the efficiency of various classification criteria sets in patients diagnosed on the clinical basis by expert opinion and to compare those pSS patients who fulfilled these criteria with those who did not.

[Non-invasive mechanical ventilation therapy in patients with heart failure].

Anadolu Kardiyol Derg

May 2012

Pamukkale Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, Kardiyoloji Anabilim Dalı, Denizli, Turkey.

Non-invasive mechanical ventilation (NIMV) therapy in patients with acute heart failure (HF) improves left ventricular functions via decreasing left ventricular afterload and reduces intubation rate and short-term mortality. In patients with chronic HF, NIMV therapy eliminates central and obstructive apneas and Cheyne-Stokes respiration, and improves morbidity. There are essentially three modes of NIMV that are used in the treatment of HF: Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), bilevel positive airway pressure (BIPAP) and adaptive servo-ventilation (ASV).
