The link between type 2 diabetes (T2D) and the severe outcomes of COVID-19 has raised concerns about the optimal management of patients with T2D. This study aimed to investigate the clinical characteristics and outcomes of T2D patients hospitalized with COVID-19 and explore the potential associations between chronic T2D treatments and adverse outcomes. This was a multicenter prospective cohort study of T2D patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in Greece during the third wave of the pandemic (February-June 2021).

Amyloid light-chain (AL) amyloidosis is a multisystemic disease. Among its clinical manifestations, vein and arterial thromboembolic events are included. We report the unusual case of a 57-year-old female patient with AL amyloidosis presenting with an ST segment elevation myocardial infarction due to coronary artery embolization (CE).

The COVID-19 pandemic has the potential to adversely affect the mental health of healthcare workers (HCWs). The public healthcare system in Greece was already facing serious challenges at the outset of the outbreak following years of austerity and an escalating refugee crisis. This multi-center, cross-sectional study aims to assess the levels and associated risk factors of anxiety, depression, traumatic stress and burnout of frontline staff in Greece.

Background: Currently, the implementation of dosimetry in molecular radiotherapy (MRT) is not well investigated, and in view of the Council Directive (2013/59/Euratom), there is a need to understand the current availability of dosimetry-based MRT in clinical practice and research studies. The aim of this study was to assess the current practice of MRT and dosimetry across European countries.
Methods: An electronic questionnaire was distributed to European countries.

Background: Previous studies have shown that common headache triggers contribute to the onset of headache attacks on predisposed individuals and are considered important in the prevention of headache. The aim of this study was to compare the different characteristics of triggers among the most common primary headache subtypes (migraine without aura, migraine with aura and tension type headache).
Methods: A total of 116 headache patients of the neurology outpatient department of a tertiary hospital in Athens were selected according to the criteria of the International Classification of Headaches-3nd Edition Beta.

The second part of this review describes the advantages, and evaluates the radionuclide-guided methods for sentinel lymph node localization and also evaluates the intraoperative application of the blue dye technique in melanoma. By combining the two techniques, the detection rate rises to 96%-98%. The presence of cancer cells in the sentinel node is histopathologically shown by using hematoxylin-eosin and by using sensitive techniques for the detection of micrometastases.

Starting from Hippocrates era, the lymphatic system has been an interesting area of study for its anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology and imaging. The present review describes the history of the lymphatic system and lymphoscintigraphy. Lymphoscintigraphy comprises a simple, non-invasive imaging method of the lymphatic system and the sentinel lymph node or nodes.

We aimed to investigate whether transient increases in blood pressure (BP) are associated with headache, by provoking hypertension in 50 non-hypertensive cephalalgia sufferers (Ce), 50 hypertensive cephalalgia sufferers (HyCe) and 50 healthy subjects (C) with a treadmill stress test. Occurrence of headache among groups did not differ (P = 0.81); however, women developed headache more frequently than men (P < 0.

Background: Gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, abdominal pain, and bloating are frequent complaints in patients with Parkinson disease (PD) and in patients with multiple system atrophy (MSA), and may be associated with delayed gastric emptying (GE). Although several GE studies in patients with PD have been performed, scant data exist in patients with MSA.
Methods: We assessed GE half-times (T50) in 12 patients with MSA and compared them with those of 12 patients with PD and 12 age-matched healthy controls.

Background: Ibutilide is used for the pharmacologic cardioversion of atrial fibrillation (AF) or flutter (AFl). Ibutilide-induced QT interval prolongation has been demonstrated previously. However, its effects on vectorcardiographic (VCG) descriptors of ventricular repolarization (VR) have not been studied so far.

Department of Cardiology, Pammakaristos Hospital, Athens, Greece.
Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia encountered in clinical practice. Experimental and human mapping studies have demonstrated that perpetuation of AF is due to the presence of multiple reentrant wavelets with various sizes in the right and left atria.
Hypothesis: Atrial fibrillation may be induced by atrial ectopic beats originating in the pulmonary veins, and premature P-wave (PPW) patterns may help to identify the source of firing.
