Alterations in Response Switching in Parkinson's Disease: New Insights Into Cueing.

J Geriatr Psychiatry Neurol

December 2024

Laboratory for Early Markers of Neurodegeneration (LEMON), Center for the Study of Movement, Cognition, and Mobility (CMCM), Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center, Neurological Institute, Tel Aviv, Israel.

Switching, a critical executive function, can manifest as task switching (TS) or response switching (RS). Although TS impairments in Parkinson's disease (PD) are well-studied, RS, especially in contexts requiring adaptive behavior to external or internal cues, is less explored. This study evaluated the impact of PD on RS under exogenous and endogenous cueing.

Introduction: The social connections surrounding children and adolescents support them in facing challenges and seeking help, ultimately acting as a protective factor in their mental, physical, and behavioral health outcomes across the life course. In complex contexts of political instability and dislocation, these social resources are often fractured, strained, or altogether unavailable, which restricts access to essential services and affects outcomes for these populations. This study aims to identify, characterize, and visually depict social connections related to the health and well-being needs of children and adolescents affected by displacement in Lebanon, by pilot testing the Participatory Assessment Tool for Mapping Social Connections (PATMSC).

Limited carry-over effects of socioemotional manipulations on subsequent unrelated memory tasks.

PLoS One

October 2024

Department of Psychology and Neuroscience, Boston College, Chestnut Hill, MA, United States of America.

Although age is typically associated with significant impairments in memory performance, several domains exist in which these impairments are reduced or even eliminated. These "pockets of preservation" in older adults' memory can be seen in tasks involving socioemotional processing and may be supported by distinct encoding or retrieval modes relative to neutral content. The current study examines whether engaging in socioemotional tasks prior to encoding or retrieval allows older adults to enter an encoding or retrieval mode that better supports memory performance.

A successful efference copy self-prediction suppresses auditory signals in the primary auditory cortex (A1) is necessary for speakers to successfully compare auditory feedback during speech production with auditory feedback during passive listening, this is called speaker-induced suppression (SIS). The top-rank positive symptom in schizophrenic (SZ) patients, auditory verbal hallucination, for instance, is hypothesized to relate to failure to distinguish the internal voice and external sounds, and this deficit is thought to be associated with impaired self-prediction in comparing external and self-generated contents. In this magnetoencephalographic imaging (MEGI) study, we compared SIS M100 in the primary auditory cortex (A1) between the healthy controls (HC; N = 30) and SZ patients (N = 22).

Baruch Ivcher School of Psychology, Reichman University, Herzliya, Israel; Department of Psychology, Palo Alto University, Palo Alto, CA, USA. Electronic address:

Experiencing and remembering objects using the sense of touch is an important aspect of our interactions with our environment, but the cognitive processes of long-term tactile memory for surface textures have not previously been studied. We administered a novel tactile texture memory span task, which required participants to identify new textures among a constantly increasing set of previously experienced stimuli. Performance on that task was compared to a span task employing novel visual objects.

Background: Immigrant Latinas (who are foreign-born but now reside in the USA) are at greater risk for developing postpartum depression than the general perinatal population, but many face barriers to treatment. To address these barriers, we adapted the Mothers and Babies Course-an evidence-based intervention for postpartum depression prevention-to a virtual group format. Additional adaptations are inclusion of tailored supplemental child health content and nutrition benefit assistance.

Histrionic personality disorder is among the most common forms of personality pathology, and recent research has focused on its associations with trauma. This research has focused primarily on the types of traumatic experiences people endure, highlighting the role of sexual trauma in particular. However, recent research on the association between traumatic events and histrionic personality characteristics has not taken into account the role of traumatic experiences characterized by interpersonal betrayal, which research suggests is associated with personality pathology in general.

Clinical Education: Addressing Prior Trauma and Its Impacts in Medical Settings.

J Clin Psychol Med Settings

September 2024

Department of Psychology, Palo Alto University, 1791 Arastradero Rd, Palo Alto, CA, 94304, USA.

Prior trauma exposure significantly increases the risk of developing PTSD following medical stressors and may contribute to the development of medically induced PTSD. However, healthcare systems often overlook the interaction between prior trauma and current medical stressors, contributing to negative psychosocial and health-related outcomes for patients. Integration of both trauma-informed and trauma-focused practices into psychosocial programming in medical settings may be key to effectively addressing the needs of trauma-exposed patients.
