Roma are the largest and most disadvantaged ethnic minority in Europe often facing generational poverty, and limited access to education, employment, housing, and various types of services. Despite many international and national initiatives, children from marginalized Roma communities face multiple risks and are being disadvantaged as early as from conception onward. We, therefore, aimed to identify measures and/or interventions targeting equity in early childhood health and development in marginalized Roma communities which implementation is considered to be urgent but not feasible.

Phytopathology is a highly complex scientific discipline. Initially, its focus was on the study of plant-pathogen interactions in agricultural and forestry production systems. Host-pathogen interactions in natural plant communities were generally overlooked until the 1970s when plant pathologists and evolutionary biologists started to take an interest in these interactions, and their dynamics in natural plant populations, communities, and ecosystems.

Oxygen vacancies and its associated defect states have a great influence on the electronic and structural aspects of semiconductor photocatalysts, yet there is paucity of investigations about the influence of the defect states on their photocatalytic properties. Herein, this study reports the hierarchical fabrication of oxygen vacancy enriched ZnO/ZnMnO/ZnS-PVA nanocomposite (NCs) for the enhanced photodegradation of rifampicin and co-trimoxazole. The formation of lattice expansion induced oxygen vacancies and its associated Urbach tail energy, and n-p-n heterojunction-based S-scheme charge transfer path synergistically contributed to the boosted photocatalytic performance of the as prepared NCs.

Chemotherapeutics such as platinum-based drugs are commonly used to treat several cancer types, but unfortunately, their use is limited by several side effects, such as high degradation of the drug before entering the cells, off-target organ toxicity and development of drug resistance. An interesting strategy to overcome such limitations is the development of nanocarriers that could enhance cellular accumulation in target cells in addition to decreasing associated drug toxicity in normal cells. Here, we aim to prepare and characterize a graphene-oxide-based 2D nanoplatform functionalised using highly branched, eight-arm polyethylene-glycol, which, owing to its high number of available functional groups, offers considerable loading capacity over its linear modalities and represents a highly potent nanodelivery platform as a versatile system in cancer therapy.
