Objectives: This repeated cross-sectional study aimed to (a) report trends in adolescents' perceived family, friend, classmate, and teacher support, (b) estimate the extent to which each source of support related to life satisfaction across space and time, and (c) ascertain whether sociodemographic factors moderated the relationship in question.
Methods: We relied on data pertaining to the 2013/14, 2017/18, and 2021/22 waves of the study. The examined sample covered 44 countries and regions ( = 716,083; = 13.

Aims: Endoplasmic reticulum stress followed by the unfolded protein response is one of the cellular mechanisms contributing to the progression of α-synuclein pathology in Parkinson's disease and other Lewy body diseases. We aimed to investigate the activation of endoplasmic reticulum stress and its correlation with α-synuclein pathology in human post-mortem brain tissue.
Methods: We analysed brain tissue from 45 subjects-14 symptomatic patients with Lewy body disease, 19 subjects with incidental Lewy body disease, and 12 healthy controls.

Osteochondral defects affect articular cartilage, calcified cartilage, and subchondral bone. The main problem that they cause is a different behavior of cell tissue in the osteochondral and bone part. Articular cartilage is composed mainly of collagen II, glycosaminoglycan (GAG), and water, and has a low healing ability due to a lack of vascularization.

The complexes are water soluble and stable, even in the case of Co(ii). Studies in a range of cancer and healthy cell lines indicate high activity and selectivity, and substantial differences between enantiomers.

Background And Aims: In patients with atrial fibrillation, oral anticoagulation therapy is indicated for both primary and secondary prevention of stroke/systemic embolism. Though direct oral anticoagulants with greater safety and efficacy than warfarin were introduced into clinical practice at the beginning of the last decade, even now not all patients with AF have adequate preventative anticoagulant treatment. The primary goal of this study was to evaluate the impact of prior use of oral anticoagulants on admission stroke severity in those with AF.

Background And Purpose: Although the amphiphilic nature of the widely used antithrombotic drug Ticagrelor is well known, it was never considered as a membranotropic agent capable of interacting with the lipid bilayer in a receptor-independent way. In this study, we investigated the influence of Ticagrelor on plasma membrane lipid order in platelets and if this modulates the potency of Ticagrelor at the P2Y receptor.
Experimental Approach: We combined fluorescent in situ, in vitro and in silico approaches to probe the interactions between the plasma membrane of platelets and Ticagrelor.

A novel group of 5,6-dihydropyrido [2',1':2,3]imidazo [4,5-c]quinolines was prepared via a microwave assisted one-pot telescopic approach. The synthetic sequence involves the formation of an amine precursor of imidazo [1,2-a]pyridine via condensation and reduction under microwave irradiation. Subsequently, the Pictet-Spengler cyclisation reaction occurs with ketones (cyclic or acyclic) to obtain substituted 5,6-dihydropyrido [2',1':2,3]imidazo [4,5-c]quinolines in excellent yields.

Liposomes are one of the most important drug delivery vectors, nowadays used in clinics. In general, polyethylene glycol (PEG) is used to ensure the stealth properties of the liposomes. Here, we have employed hydrophilic, biocompatible and highly non-fouling N-(2-hydroxypropyl) methacrylamide (HPMA)-based copolymers containing hydrophobic cholesterol anchors for the surface modification of liposomes, which were prepared by the method of lipid film hydration and extrusion through 100 nm polycarbonate filters.

One of the definitions of chemical biology is that it is a scientific discipline spanning the fields of chemistry, biology, and physics; it primarily involves the application of chemical techniques, tools, analyses, and often compounds (also known as chemical probes), which are produced through synthetic chemistry, in order to study and manipulate biological systems [...

The interpretation of mechanisms governing hot carrier reactivity on metallic nanostructures is critical, yet elusive, for advancing plasmonic photocatalysis. In this work, we explored the influence of the diffusion of molecules on the hot carrier extraction rate at the solid-liquid interface, which is of fundamental interest for increasing the efficiency of photodevices. Through a spatially defined scanning photoelectrochemical microscopy investigation, we identified a diffusion-controlled regime hindering the plasmon-driven photochemical activity of metallic nanostructures.

Background: Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) is an inflammatory disease affecting the peripheral nerves and the most frequent autoimmune polyneuropathy. Given the lack of established biomarkers or risk factors for the development of CIDP and patients' treatment response, this research effort seeks to identify potential clinical factors that may influence disease progression and overall treatment efficacy.
Methods: In this multicenter, retrospective analysis, we have screened 197 CIDP patients who presented to the University Hospitals in Düsseldorf, Berlin, Cologne, Essen, Magdeburg and Munich between 2018 and 2022.

Benzimidazoles are frequently used in medicinal chemistry. Their anticancer effect is among the most prominent biological activities exhibited by this scaffold. Although numerous benzimidazole derivatives have been synthesized, possible atropisomerism of -substituted 1-phenylbenzimidazoles has been largely overlooked.

Formation of the apical hook in etiolated dicot seedlings results from differential growth in the hypocotyl apex and is tightly controlled by environmental cues and hormones, among which auxin and gibberellins (GAs) play an important role. Cell expansion is tightly regulated by the cell wall, but whether and how feedback from this structure contributes to hook development are still unclear. Here, we show that etiolated seedlings of the Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) quasimodo2-1 (qua2) mutant, defective in pectin biosynthesis, display severe defects in apical hook formation and maintenance, accompanied by loss of asymmetric auxin maxima and differential cell expansion.

Lichens are remarkable and classic examples of symbiotic organisms that have fascinated scientists for centuries. Yet, it has only been for a couple of decades that significant advances have focused on the diversity of their green algal and/or cyanobacterial photobionts. Cyanolichens, which contain cyanobacteria as their photosynthetic partner, include up to 10% of all known lichens and, as such, studies on their cyanobionts are much rarer compared to their green algal counterparts.

Background: Adipose tissue is significantly involved in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Vitamin D can affect both adipogenesis and inflammation. The aim of this study was to compare the production of selected adipokines, potentially involved in the pathogenesis of IBD - adiponectin, resistin, retinol binding protein 4 (RBP-4), adipocyte fatty acid binding protein and nesfatin-1 in children with IBD according to the presence of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) deficiency.
