Thiadiazine thione (THTT) has gained significant interest owing to its pharmacological potentials, particularly its antiparasitic and anti-inflammatory properties. Leishmaniasis is a clinical syndrome caused by infection with species and is associated with an inflammatory response and nociception. The available treatments against leishmaniasis are inadequate, as they are associated with high cost, toxicity, and increased resistance.

Pakistan is confronted with the formidable challenge of high population growth, which is compounded by cultural norms that prioritize male offspring, leading to adverse implications for family planning efforts and demographic trends. Despite efforts to promote contraception, including a national family planning program, Pakistan continues to struggle with low and stagnant contraceptive prevalence rates among married women. The influence of gender composition on modern contraceptive uptake remains underexplored, necessitating research to elucidate its impact on reproductive behavior.

Inflammation disrupts the normal function of granulosa cells (GCs), which leads to ovarian dysfunction and fertility decline. Inflammatory conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), primary ovarian insufficiency (POI), endometriosis, and age-related ovarian decline are often associated with chronic low-grade inflammation. Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) is an important precursor of NAD and has gained attention for its potential to modulate cellular metabolism, redox homeostasis, and mitigate inflammation.

Background: Grain number (GN) is one of the key yield contributing factors in modern wheat (Triticum aestivum) varieties. Fruiting efficiency (FE) is a key trait for increasing GN by making more spike assimilates available to reproductive structures. Thousand grain weight (TGW) is also an important component of grain yield.

Poisoned in their homes - Red blood cell abnormalities in lead-exposed residents of a Pakistani Industrial Zone.

Environ Monit Assess

January 2025

Cancer Biology Lab, Institute of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, University of the Punjab, Quid-E-Azam Campus, PO Box No. 54590, Lahore, Pakistan.

The present study investigated the clinical and hematological effects of chronic lead exposure in the population residing in Shadi Pura, a small industrial zone in Lahore, Pakistan. A cross-sectional analysis of 149 participants recruited through health camps was conducted to explore the hematological manifestations of environmental lead exposure, focusing on various red blood cell (RBC) indices and morphology. Moreover, the study examined the differences in the impact of lead exposure on RBC indices and morphology between men, women, and children.

The Internet of Vehicles (IoV) transforms the automobile industry through connected vehicles with communication infrastructure that improves traffic control, safety and information, and entertainment services. However, some issues remain, like data protection, privacy, compatibility with other protocols and systems, and the availability of stable and continuous connections. Specific problems are related to energy consumption for transmitting information, distributing energy loads across the vehicle's sensors and communication units, and designing energy-efficient approaches to processing received data and making decisions in the context of the IoV environment.

Advancing neutron imaging techniques to highest resolution with fluorescent nuclear track detectors.

Sci Rep

January 2025

High Energy Nuclear Physics Laboratory, Cluster for Pioneering Research, RIKEN, Wako, Saitama, 351-0198, Japan.

Neutron imaging is a nondestructive and noninvasive inspection technique with a wide range of potential applications. However, the fundamentals of this technique still need to be improved, one of which involves achieving micrometer scale or even better resolution, which is a challenging task. Recently, a high-resolution neutron imaging device based on fine-grained nuclear emulsions was developed.

This work explores the mathematical technique known as the Hirota bilinear transformation to investigate different wave behaviors of the nonlinear Rosenau equation, which is fundamental in the study of wave occurrences in a variety of physical systems such as fluid dynamics, plasma physics, and materials science, where nonlinear dynamics and dispersion offer significant functions. This equation was suggested to describe the dynamic behaviour of dense discrete systems. We use Mathematica to investigate these wave patterns and obtained variety of wave behaviors, such as M-shaped waves, mixed waves, multiple wave forms, periodic lumps, periodic cross kinks, bright and dark breathers, and kinks and anti-kinks.

Exploring Serotonin-1A receptor function in the effects of buspirone on cognition by molecular receptor expression and EEG analytical studies.

Eur J Pharmacol

January 2025

Dr. Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research, International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences, University of Karachi, Karachi, 75270, Pakistan.

Buspirone, a commonly prescribed medication for generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), is gaining attention for its narrow window of side effects such as lack of physical dependence, non-sedative properties as compared to other anxiolytic drugs. Its dose-specific therapeutic effects beyond anxiety highlights its clinical significance. Pharmacologically, buspirone activates serotonin-1A pre-synaptic autoreceptors and post-synaptic heteroreceptors which modulate serotonergic neurotransmission induced behavioral changes such as anxiolytic and nootropic effects.
