Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS), a successfully commercialized polymeric semiconductor material, has potential as a transparent electrode in flexible electronic devices, yet has insufficient conductivity. We present the synthesis, properties, and directed crystallization of the PEDOT:dodecyl sulfate (PEDOT:DS) film. Iron(III) dodecyl sulfate (Fe(DS)) multi-lamellar vesicles (MLVs), a new growth template, are used to synthesize and direct the growth of the PEDOT:DS film via vapor-phase polymerization of 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene to form huge PEDOT:DS co-crystal domains within the MLV superstructure.

Although the associations between a patient's body mass index (BMI) and metabolic diseases, as well as their breath test results, have been studied, the relationship between breath hydrogen/methane levels and metabolic diseases needs to be further clarified. We aimed to investigate how the composition of exhaled breath gases relates to metabolic disorders, such as diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, hypertension, and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and their key risk factors. An analysis was performed using the medical records, including the lactulose breath test (LBT) data of patients who visited the Ajou University Medical Center, Suwon, Republic of Korea, between January 2016 and December 2021.

The purpose of this study is to investigate whether the presentation of targets can affect the performance of multiple object tracking and whether the difference between female soccer players and female college students is regulated by the presentation of targets. We enlisted a group of 20 Chinese female soccer players and another group of 20 non-players to complete a multiple object juggling (MOJ) task. The mean age was 20.

Cast-in-place anchors are being increasingly used in many applications including building construction, bridge, and power plants. The anchorage to concrete systems are subjected to tensile, shear and combined loads from a variety of loading circumstances including static, dynamic, and shock loading. Despite extensive studies on these systems, reliable numerical models for predicting the behavior of these anchors are still limited.

The total cross section of binary collision is, in general, unbounded due to the long-range interations of molecules. It is conventional to truncate the small angle deflections of collisions. The present work suggests an alternative way of avoiding the difficulty of unboundedness.

Ginsenosides, among the most active components of ginseng, exhibit several therapeutic effects against cancer, diabetes, and other metabolic diseases. However, the molecular mechanism underlying the anti-osteoporotic activity of ginsenoside Rg2, a major ginsenoside, has not been clearly elucidated. This study aimed to determine the effects of ginsenoside Rg2 on receptor activator of nuclear factor-κB ligand (RANKL)-induced osteoclast formation.

The hybrid retrofit system using FRP and concrete overlay applied on the top of slabs has proven effective in strengthening and overcoming logistical constraints, compared with conventional strengthening techniques using externally bonded composite materials to the underside of the slabs. Nevertheless, the performance of retrofitted slabs is governed by debonding failure due to the low bond strength between CFRP and concrete overlay. Thus, this study investigates the behavior of flexural strengthened slabs with FRP retrofit systems and the effect of bond-slip laws on debonding failure.

In this study, a modified version of electrospun nylon 66 nanofibers by silica particles were blended into ordinary Portland cement to investigate the microstructure and some mechanical properties of cementitious material. The addition of silica into the nanofibers improved the tensile and compressive properties of the hardened cement pastes. The observations from the mechanical strength tests showed an increase of 41%, 33% and 65% in tensile strength, compressive strength, and toughness, respectively, when modifying the cement pastes with the proposed nanofibers.

In this study, we examine the links between low self-control, risky lifestyles, and victimization. Specifically, we explore a full mediation model to test whether risky lifestyles (unstructured activity, association with deviant peers, and delinquency) account for the effect of low self-control on victimization. For the current study, we apply structural equation modeling (SEM) to data from 1057 South Korean adolescents.

Background/objectives: Vitamin D is produced in the skin during sun exposure and is also ingested from foods. The role of vitamin D needs to be considered in the prevention and management of various diseases. Moreover, since the majority of Koreans spend their days indoors, becoming susceptible to the risk of vitamin D deficiency.

In order to predict the postcollision velocities in the binary collision, one needs the deflection angle given by the solution of the trajectory equation of classical mechanics. In the direct simulation Monte Carlo, it has been conventional to assume that the scattering is isotropic taking the hard sphere scattering law (the variable hard sphere model). Because the simulation carries out the ensemble average, and thus the collisional deflections should be averaged at the end, it is proposed to use the preaveraged deflection angle for each collision.

Strengthening existing reinforced concrete (RC) slabs using externally bonded materials is increasingly popular due to its adaptability and versatility. Nevertheless, ductility reduction of the rehabilitated flexural members with these materials can lead to brittle shear failure. Therefore, a new approach for strengthening is necessary.

In this study, we examined South Korean residents' travel-related behavioural intention for mainland China post-COVID-19 using an extended model of goal-directed behaviour. To do so, we integrated South Korean residents' perceptions of country image (PCI), mass media, and concerns about travel into the framework of the original model of goal-directed behaviour (MGB). Structural equation modelling was used to identify the structural relationships among the latent variables.

Foeniculins A-C (-) together with a pair of enantiomers (±)-foeniculin D () were isolated from endophytic fungus BZM-15. Their structures including absolute configurations were unambiguously established by extensive interpretation of the NMR and HR-ESI-MS data, ECD measurements powered by molecular calculations, as well as Mo(OAc) mediated CD methodology. The cytotoxic activity assay disclosed that these compounds didn't show any noticeable cytotoxic activity.

The nonequilibrium temperature in the kinetic theory of gases is reexamined and an alternative definition of the temperature in terms of the local equilibrium distribution function is proposed. The alternative definition introduces a new physical quantity, 'exoenergy,' which represents the nonequilibrium nature of thermodynamic systems. The internal energy equation is split into two equations, the temperature equation and the exoenergy equation.

Heat shock proteins (HSPs) are chaperones that catalyze the refolding of denatured proteins. In addition to their ability to prevent protein denaturation and aggregation, the HSPs have also been shown to modulate many signaling pathways. Among HSPs, the inducible 70 kDa HSP (HSP70) has especially been shown to improve neurological outcome in experimental models of brain ischemia and injury.

Bacterial quorum quenching (QQ) by means of degrading signaling molecules has been applied to antibiofouling strategies in a membrane bioreactor (MBR) for wastewater treatment. However, the target signaling molecules have been limited to N-acyl homoserine lactones participating in intraspecies quorum sensing. Here, an approach to disrupting autoinducer-2 (AI-2) signaling molecules participating in interspecies quorum sensing was pursued as a next-generation antibiofouling strategy in an MBR for wastewater treatment.
