Background: Persistent atelectasis in children is lacking a gold standard treatment. Intrapulmonary percussive ventilation (IPV) is presented as a promising chest physiotherapy technique in the treatment of atelectasis. This study aimed to follow the evolution of atelectasis resolution with noninvasive IPV in young children and to detect eventual adverse effects.

We describe epileptic seizures including status epilepticus provoked by recurrent obstructive apnea in a child with Cornelia de Lange syndrome. From the age of 10 months, this boy had recurrent respiratory infections with obstructive apnea leading to cyanosis and loss of consciousness. Approximately, 25% of apneas were followed by clonic jerks usually lasting 10 min, but once status epilepticus.

We carried out a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blinded trial to evaluate the effect on morbidity of high dose oral vitamin A, given on hospital admission to 592 children aged 1-59 months with moderate and severe pneumonia. Severely underweight children were not included, but 45% were moderately underweight. The vitamin A and placebo groups were comparable in baseline characteristics.
