Myxomatosis and rabbit haemorrhagic disease are major contributors to severe epizootics with limited long-lasting immunity. This study expanded beyond these well-documented viruses to include a broader spectrum of viruses in 36 wild rabbit carcasses () collected from the field in 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2024, and 32 wild rabbits hunted in 2017/2018.

Background: Chronic low back pain (LBP) is a significant global health concern, often linked to vertebral bone marrow lesions (BML), particularly fatty replacement (FR). This study aims to explore the relationship between the gut microbiome, serum metabolome, and FR in chronic LBP patients.

Methods: Serum metabolomic profiling and gut microbiome analysis were conducted in chronic LBP patients with and without FR (LBP + FR,  = 40; LBP,  = 40) and Healthy Controls (HC,  = 31).

Obligate root parasitic plants of the Orobanchaceae family exhibit an intricate germination behavior. The host-dependent germination process of these parasites has prompted extensive research into effective control methods. While the effect of biomaterials such as amino acids and microRNA-encoded peptides have been explored, the effect of double-stranded RNAs (dsRNAs) has remained unexamined during the germination process.

Amino acid assisted synthesis of CDs: a novel paradigm in plant tissue culture media for enhanced cellular effects and biotechnological advancements.

We report a green approach to prepare carbon dots (CDs) with fresh tomatoes as carbon sources and amino acids as dopants (ACDs) by a microwave assisted method. The synthesised CDs were analysed by UV-visible absorption spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectroscopy, high resolution transmission electron spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photo electron spectroscopy. An MTT assay was used to evaluate the cytotoxicity of CDs toward L929 cells and found that CDs exhibit low cytotoxicity.

Delirium and Cognitive Screening in National Hip Fracture Registries: Scoping Review Protocol.

Background: Delirium and cognitive impairment are common in hip fracture populations and are associated with significant adverse patient outcomes. National hip fracture registries facilitate improvements in patient outcomes and care quality, such as reduced mortality and the development of specialist multidisciplinary services. However, there is substantial variation in the data collected and reported in relation to delirium and cognition, which impedes international comparison and may reduce quality of care.

Naxos Disease and Related Cardio-Cutaneous Syndromes.

Naxos disease is a rare autosomal recessive condition combining arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy, woolly hair, and palmoplantar keratoderma. The first identified causative variant was in the gene encoding the desmosomal protein plakoglobin. Naxos disease exhibits fibro-fatty myocardial replacement with immunohistological abnormalities in cardiac protein and signaling pathways, highlighting the role of inflammation and potential anti-inflammatory treatments.

Heart Failure in Atrial Fibrillation Subtypes in Women and Men in the Tromsø Study.

Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) and heart failure (HF) often coexist and impact morbidity and mortality. There is limited knowledge on the association of AF subtypes with HF according to sex.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to explore sex-specific associations between AF subtypes and subsequent HF, identifying HF risk factors in participants with AF, and exploring the combined impact on mortality.

The mCHEST Score for Incident Atrial Fibrillation: MESA (Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis).

Background: Assessing individuals' risk of developing incident atrial fibrillation (AF) is important for making preventive and screening strategies.

Objectives: The performance of the mCHEST score for predicting incident AF has scarcely been evaluated, especially in a multi-ethnic population.

Methods: Participants from the MESA (Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis were enrolled in the present study, which involved population of different ethnicities (Caucasian, African-American, Chinese-American, and Hispanic) aged between 45 and 84 from 6 communities in the United States.

Standardised activities in wheelchair rugby, comparison between athletes with coordination impairment and athletes with other impairments.

Introduction: To determine if athletes with coordination impairment (CI) can continue playing wheelchair rugby (WR), while an evidence-based classification system, including impairment tests for CI is not yet available. This is a defensible practise if they show similar activity limitations as athletes with other eligible impairment types (OI) within the same sports class.

Methods: Standardised activities were measured in 58 elite WR athletes; 14 with CI and 44 with OI.

Background: Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) chronic high viral load (CHVL) may be defined by >16 000 copies/mL whole blood or >200 copies/10 peripheral blood mononuclear cells in >50% samples exceeding 6 mo. EBV CHVL has only been characterized in a few small pediatric studies, with heterogeneous results and unclear clinical significance.

Methods: This single-center observational study evaluated adult and pediatric kidney transplant recipients transplanted between 2010 and 2021 on tacrolimus/mycophenolate-based/prednisone immunosuppression.

Reactivity of Wet scCO toward Reservoir and Caprock Formations under Elevated Pressure and Temperature Conditions: Implications for CCS and CO-Based Geothermal Energy Extraction.

Carbon capture and storage (CCS) and CO-based geothermal energy are promising technologies for reducing CO emissions and mitigating climate change. Safe implementation of these technologies requires an understanding of how CO interacts with fluids and rocks at depth, particularly under elevated pressure and temperature. While CO-bearing aqueous solutions in geological reservoirs have been extensively studied, the chemical behavior of water-bearing supercritical CO remains largely overlooked by academics and practitioners alike.

Factors influencing livestock ownership and herd intensity among smallholder farmers in the Eastern Cape, South Africa.

This study explores the factors influencing smallholder farmers' decisions on livestock ownership and herd size in the context of climate change. A cross-sectional approach was employed, using a multi-stage sampling method to survey 600 smallholder farmers, 495 of whom were engaged in livestock production. Data were collected through a semi-structured questionnaire and analysed using a double hurdle model.

A techno-economic study on the utilisation of airborne wind energy for reverse osmosis seawater desalination.

Airborne wind energy is an emerging technology that can harness stronger and more consistent winds in higher altitudes using less mechanical and civil infrastructures than conventional wind energy systems. This article outlines a techno-economic study on using this technology for reverse osmosis seawater desalination in which a semi-permeable membrane process is used to remove salts and contaminants from water. To understand the techno-economic feasibility of such a system, this research work studies a 2 MW airborne wind-driven reverse osmosis plant.

Characterization and effective expansion of CD4CD8 TCRαβ T cells from individuals living with type 1 diabetes.

CD4CD8 TCRαβ (double-negative [DN]) T cells represent a rare T cell population that promotes immunological tolerance through various cytotoxic mechanisms. In mice, autologous transfer of DN T cells has shown protective effects against autoimmune diabetes and graft-versus-host disease. Here, we characterized human DN T cells from people living with type 1 diabetes (PWT1D) and healthy controls.

Systematic review and meta-analysis of the pelvic organ prolapse and vaginal prolapse among the global population.

Background: Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) occurs when one or more pelvic organs (uterus, bowel, bladder or top of the vagina) descend from their normal position and bulge into the vagina. Symptoms include pelvic discomfort, fullness, and changes in bladder or bowel function. Treatment ranges from conservative approaches to surgery, depending on symptom severity.

In silico tools for mechanical analysis of extra- and intra-luminal artificial urinary sphincters.

Objectives: To analyse and compare the functionality of extraluminal and intraluminal artificial urinary sphincters (AUSs), an in silico procedure has been defined and applied. Design and reliability assessments of the AUS are typically performed using a clinical approach, which does not provide data on mechanical stimulation of urethral tissues. Mechanical stimulation may determine tissue degeneration, such as urethral atrophy or erosion, the main causes of AUS failure.

Clinical validation of a biopsy-based six-gene signature prognostic for aggressive prostate cancer.

Objectives: This study aimed to clinically validate the six-gene prognostic molecular clinical risk score (MCRS) for the prediction of aggressive prostate cancer in diagnostic biopsy tissue.

Methods: MCRS was evaluated in prostate biopsy tissue from a Swedish cohort of men with prostate cancer (UPCA,  = 100). The primary outcome of adverse pathology and secondary outcomes of high primary Gleason (≥G4) and high pathological T-stage (≥T3) were assessed by likelihood ratio statistics and area under the receiver operating characteristic curves from logistic regression models; time to biochemical recurrence was assessed by likelihood ratio statistics and C-indexes from Cox proportional hazard regression models.

SPIRIT-DEFINE explanation and elaboration: recommendations for enhancing quality and impact of early phase dose-finding clinical trials protocols.

Unlabelled: Transparent and accurate reporting in early phase dose-finding (EPDF) clinical trials is crucial for informing subsequent larger trials. The SPIRIT statement, designed for trial protocol content, does not adequately cover the distinctive features of EPDF trials. Recent findings indicate that the protocol contents in past EPDF trials frequently lacked completeness and clarity.
