Many cytochrome P450 enzymes (CYPs) exhibit allosteric behavior reflecting a complex ligand-binding process involving numerous factors: conformational selection, protein-protein interactions, substrate/effector/protein structure, and multiple-ligand binding. The interplay of CYP plasticity and rigidity contributes to substrate/product selectivity and to allosterism. Detailed evidence describing how protein motion modulates product selectivity is incomplete as are descriptions of effector-induced modulation of substrate dynamics.

Context: Therapeutic exercises are frequently prescribed to patients with low back pain. Numerous exercise programs for patients with low back pain have been described. Many of these treatment programs are based on 1 of 2 popular rehabilitation strategies: a motor control exercise approach or a general exercise approach.

Context: Injury to the low back can cause significant pain and dysfunction, which can affect an athlete's performance and result in time lost from sport. A common conservative treatment is therapeutic core stabilization exercises, which can address pain and musculoskeletal dysfunction in patients with low back pathology.
Evidence Acquisition: MEDLINE and CINAHL were searched (from 1966 to March 2013) to identify relevant research.

Purpose/background: Functional tests have been used primarily to assess an athlete's fitness or readiness to return to sport. The purpose of this prospective cohort study was to determine the ability of the standing long jump (SLJ) test, the single-leg hop (SLH) for distance test, and the lower extremity functional test (LEFT) as preseason screening tools to identify collegiate athletes who may be at increased risk for a time-loss sports-related low back or lower extremity injury.
Methods: A total of 193 Division III athletes from 15 university teams (110 females, age 19.

The hypothesis that N-acetyl-m-aminophenol (AMAP), the meta isomer of acetaminophen, will covalently bind to and inhibit human CYP2E1 in a time- and NADPH-dependent manner was investigated. Liquid chromatography/electrospray ionization-mass spectrometry analysis indicated that AMAP metabolites (i.e.

Herbal medicines can affect drug metabolizing enzymes. Therefore the effect of thymoquinone (TQ), the active ingredient of black seeds, was examined on rabbit liver drug metabolizing enzymes. Two groups of New Zealand female rabbits received TQ at 10 and 20 mg/kg/day orally and a control group of six animals each were killed after 8 weeks.

This case report details the musculoskeletal evaluation and the successful rehabilitation of a 24-year-old female recreational distance runner who self-referred to physical therapy with an acute bout of low back pain (LBP). Her LBP was provoked during each distance run. The patient's musculoskeletal evaluation revealed core weakness, especially on the left.

Objectives: To implement a Learning Bridge tool to improve educational outcomes for pharmacy students as well as for preceptors and faculty members.
Design: Pharmacy faculty members collaborated to write 9 case-based assignments that first-year pharmacy (P1) students worked with preceptors to complete while at experiential sites.
Assessment: Students, faculty members, and preceptors were surveyed about their perceptions of the Learning Bridge process.

This study investigates the mechanism of cyclosporine A (CsA)-mediated nephrotoxicity by examining the hypothesis that CsA toxicity is mediated through its effect on the kidney drug metabolizing enzymes in a hyperlipemic rabbit model. Twenty-four female New Zealand white rabbits divided into four groups. Group 1 received regular diet.

Objectives: To assess the impact of a program to integrate introductory pharmacy practice experiences with pharmaceutical science topics by promoting active learning, self-directed learning skills, and critical-thinking skills.
Design: The Learning Bridge, a curriculum program, was created to better integrate the material first-year (P1) students learned in pharmaceutical science courses into their introductory pharmacy practice experiences. Four Learning Bridge assignments required students to interact with their preceptors and answer questions relating to the pharmaceutical science material concurrently covered in their didactic courses.

Equilibrative nucleoside transporters play essential roles in nutrient uptake, cardiovascular and renal function, and purine analog drug chemotherapies. Limited structural information is available for this family of transporters; however, residues in transmembrane domains 1, 2, 4, and 5 appear to be important for ligand and inhibitor binding. In order to identify regions of the transporter that are important for ligand specificity, a genetic selection for mutants of the inosine-guanosine-specific Crithidia fasciculata nucleoside transporter 2 (CfNT2) that had gained the ability to transport adenosine was carried out in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
