Toys are us (Trus) is the ortholog of mammalian Programmed Cell Death 2-Like (PDCD2L), a protein that has been implicated in ribosome biogenesis, cell cycle regulation, and oncogenesis. In this study, we examined the function of Trus during development. CRISPR/Cas9 generated null mutations in lead to partial embryonic lethality, significant larval developmental delay, and complete pre-pupal lethality.

Hypoxia, a characteristic feature of solid tumors, develops as a result of excessive cell proliferation and rapid tumor growth exceeding the oxygen supply, and can result in angiogenesis activation, increased invasiveness, aggressiveness, and metastasis, leading to improved tumor survival and suppression of anticancer drug therapeutic impact. SLC-0111, a ureido benzenesulfonamide, is a selective human carbonic anhydrase (hCA) IX inhibitor in clinical trials for the treatment of hypoxic malignancies. Herein, we describe the design and synthesis of novel 6-arylpyridines 8a-l and 9a-d as structural analogues of SLC-0111, in the aim of exploring new selective inhibitors for the cancer-associated hCA IX isoform.

: Community pharmacies across the country have been adapting the ways their patients receive medications and prescription information during the COVID-19 pandemic. In order to reduce the risk of COVID-19 infection, the CDC encouraged patients to use pharmacy drive-throughs, curbside pickup, or home delivery services to obtain medications. This research study is one of the first studies to analyze how patients utilize and access Medication Management Services (MMS) in the community pharmacy setting during the COVID-19 pandemic.

: hypertension affects approximately half of the adults in the United States (roughly 116 million). The cytochrome P450 (CYP)-mediated metabolism of arachidonic acid (AA) in the kidney has been found to play a major role in the pathogenesis of hypertension. This study examines the anti-hypertensive effect of the natural polyphenolic compound catechin (CAT) and investigates if it impacts the metabolism of AA in the kidney in comparison to captopril (CAP): a commonly used antihypertensive drug.

Background: Child and adolescent mental health problems are major contributors to the global burden of disease in low- and middle-income country (LMIC) settings. To advance the evidence base for adolescent mental health interventions in LMICs, we evaluated the feasibility and acceptability of a school-based emotion regulation prevention intervention (READY-Nepal) for adolescents who had a recent exposure to a humanitarian disaster.

Methods: A mixed-method, non-randomized controlled trial was conducted with Nepali secondary school students in one heavily affected post-earthquake district.

Current and Emerging Trends in Diabetes Care and Education: 2021 National Practice and Workforce Survey.

Sci Diabetes Self Manag Care

October 2022

Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists, Chicago, Illinois.

Purpose: The purpose of the National Practice Survey is to understand current trends related to the diabetes care and education specialist's integration into the full care team beyond formal diabetes self-management education and support services.

Methods: The 2021 National Practice Survey (NPS2021) contained 61 questions for all respondents with an additional 56 questions pertaining to specific diabetes care and education segments. An anonymous survey was administered online to respondents who are diabetes care and education specialists or a part of the diabetes care team.

Parasites of the genus cause a variety of devastating and often fatal diseases in humans and domestic animals worldwide. The need for new therapeutic strategies is urgent because no vaccine is available, and treatment options are limited due to a lack of specificity and the emergence of drug resistance. Polyamines are metabolites that play a central role in rapidly proliferating cells, and recent studies have highlighted their critical nature in .

Social interaction among animals can occur under many contexts, such as during foraging. Our knowledge of the regions within an avian brain associated with social interaction is limited to the regions activated by a single context or sensory modality. We used 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) to examine American crow () brain activity in response to conditions associated with communal feeding.

Introduction: Faculty collaboration across disciplines plays an important role in pharmacy education, and in particular, the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) faculty survey asks whether colleges/schools of pharmacy (C/SOPs) have programs available to orient non-practice faculty to the profession of pharmacy. The purpose of this pilot study was to characterize perceptions of the importance and effectiveness of such programs, and to examine barriers to their successful implementation.

Methods: An online survey was developed to collect demographic information and perceived importance, effectiveness, and barriers of programs designed to orient non-practice faculty to the pharmacy profession.

Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) programs continually engage in curricular redesign to ensure practice readiness of graduates. With ever-increasing demands on clinical competency and curricular time, it is important to be intentional when determining curricular priorities and prioritize contemporary pharmacist practice. This paper describes how to adapt a national framework for pharmacotherapy curricula to emphasize the pharmacist's role within a given topic area in order to facilitate conversations about allotting curricular time during a curricular redesign.

May 2021

Pharmaceutical Analytical Chemistry Department, Faculty of Pharmacy, Kafrelsheikh University, Kafrelsheikh, P.O. Box 33511, Egypt; School of Pharmacy, Pacific University Oregon, Hillsboro, OR 97123, USA. Electronic address:

A simple green hydrothermal method was proposed for synthesis of highly fluorescent nitrogen and sulfur co-doped carbon quantum dots (N,S-CQDs) using citric acid and thiosemicarbazide. The produced N,S-CQDs were subjected to extensive spectroscopic characterization and applied as fluorescent nanosensors for the sensitive spectrofluorimetric determination of salinomycin and maduramicin directly without prior derivatization for the first time. The obtained N,S-CQDs showed strong emission band at 430 nm after excitation at 360 nm.
