A nitrogen-coordinated Fe single-atom catalyst (SA Fe-N/C) is synthesized using a homogeneous ethanol-based dissolution system with bamboo kraft lignin serving as the carbon source. Uniformly dispersed Fe atoms with an interatomic distance of less than 2 Å throughout the SA Fe-N/C structure are revealed through X-ray absorption spectral analysis and HAADF-STEM images, which possessed a high Fe loading of 2.69%.

The aqueous zinc ion batteries (AZIBs) are chronically plagued by the inevitable side-reaction and uneven Zn planets stack. Through regulating the water activity and Zn crystal dynamics could effectively relieve those anode/electrolyte interface problems. The (2-hydroxypropyl)-β-cyclodextrin (HBCD), characterized by the excluded-volume and mitigating zinc-flux aggregation effect, is chosen as the electrolyte additive to tail the anode/electrolyte interface.

Photosensitizers (PSs) featuring type I reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and aggregation-induced emission (AIE) activity offer a promising solution to achieve non-invasive and precise theranostics. However, the reported AIE luminogens (AIEgens) with both AIE characteristic and strong type-I ROS generation are still scarce and the structure-property relationship is still unclear. Herein, an innovative acceptor elongation boosted intersystem crossing (AEBIC) design strategy has been proposed to endow the AIEgen strong type-I ROS producibility.

Next-generation ionic skin (i-skin) should be self-healing and self-powered, promoting its development toward lightweight, miniaturization, compact, and portable designs. Previously reported self-powered i-skin mostly either lack the ability to self-repair damaged parts or only have self-healing capabilities some components, falling short of achieving complete device self-healability. In this work, a self-bonding strategy is presented to obtain an all-polymerizable deep eutectic solvent (PDES) magnetoelectric i-skin (MIS) that simultaneously achieves self-powering and full-device autonomous self-healability.

Numerous in situ characterization studies have focused on revealing the catalytic mechanisms of single-atom catalysts (SACs), providing a theoretical basis for their rational design. Although research is relatively limited, the stability of SACs under long-term operating conditions is equally important and a prerequisite for their real-world energy applications, such as fuel cells and water electrolyzers. Recently, there has been a rise in in situ characterization studies on the destabilization and regeneration of SACs; however, timely and comprehensive summaries that provide the catalysis community with valuable insights and research directions are still lacking.

Controlling the microstructure of semiconducting polymers is critical for optimizing thermoelectric performance, yet remains challenging, requiring complex processing techniques like alignment. In this study, a straightforward strategy is introduced to enhance the thermoelectric properties of semi-crystalline polymer films by incorporating minimal amounts of nucleating agents, a method widely used in traditional polymer industries. By blending less than 1 wt% of N,N'-(1,4-phenyl)diisonicotinamide (PDA) into poly(2,5-bis(3-alkylthiophen-2-yl)thieno[3,2-b]thiophene) (PBTTT-C14), controlled modulation of crystallization behavior is achieved, resulting in reduced structural disorder and enhanced charge carrier mobility.

The direct dehydrogenation of alkanes to olefins under mild conditions is challenging due to the inert nature of alkyl C─H bonds. Herein, an efficient photocatalytic system is developed for propane direct dehydrogenation (PDH) to propylene, consisting of ≈1.30 nm sized PtO clusters immobilized on a layered double hydroxide -derived ZnO/AlO support (LD-Pt).

Food-derived bioactive peptides are a class of peptides from natural protein. It may have biological effects on the human body and play a significant role in protecting human physiological health and regulating physiological metabolism, such as lowering blood pressure, lowering cholesterol, antioxidant, antibacterial, regulating immune activity, and so on. However, most of the natural food-derived functional peptides need to overcome a variety of barriers in the body to enter the blood circulation system and target to specific tissues to generate physiological activity.

Background: The diagnosis of pediatric cancer is a major shock to family caregivers, and posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSSs) emerge as the most prevalent adverse psychological outcomes. However, not all family caregivers have sufficient resilience to cope with these challenges; thus, supportive care interventions are necessary. These interventions, which include psychosocial support, education, and other forms of assistance, are designed to enhance the well-being of those affected by disease.

Brucellosis is listed by the World Health Organization as one of the seven most neglected global zoonotic diseases. A live-attenuated vaccine is still the main strategy used to prevent the spread of brucellosis. In this study, we constructed a two-gene (purE and purK)-deletion vaccine in Brucella melitensis vaccine strain M5 with homologous recombination.

Background: The control of aspiration contamination of dental handpiece (DHP) is crucial for mitigating cross-infection risks associated with dental chair units (DCU) and DHP. However, the anti-aspiration capabilities of DHPs are predominantly asserted by manufacturers, with an absence of standardized methodologies to assess these claims.
Aim: To evaluate the anti-aspiration performance and the mechanism of DHPs to improve cross-infection prevention strategies.

Reservoirs represent a critical component of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, yet the intricacies of how biotic and abiotic factors influence GHG dynamics within reservoirs remain largely unexplored. Herein, we investigated the spatiotemporal patterns of CO and NO emissions and the underlying factors in the Danjiangkou Reservoir, Asia's largest artificial freshwater reservoir. We found that this reservoir was a significant source of GHGs to the atmosphere, with peak CO emissions observed in autumn (1544.

Monitoring and controlling microbial water quality is crucial for ensuring water reuse safety. In particular, existing water reuse guidelines and regulations normally prescribed coliform bacteria as microbial indicators. However, the use of non-unified coliform groups may bring difficulties to compare and optimize the conformity efforts on microbial surveillance.

Due to its thermal stability, and high viscosity, proso millet starch has limited practical applications. Extrusion can alter the functional properties of starch by pre-gelatinization, but the specific effects of extrusion temperature on starch behavior are not clear. In this study, proso millet starch was modified using extrusion at varying temperatures (70 °C, 90 °C, 110 °C), and its structure as well as physicochemical properties were evaluated.

Circadian clock regulates plant development and physiology by anticipating daily environmental changes. Here we studied the core clock protein involved in β-aminobutyric acid (BABA)-inducible SAR resistance to Rhizopus stolonifer in peach fruit. BABA elicitation barely primed the accumulation of jasmonate or ethylene, whose regulation was associated with morning-loop gene expression.

Chitin nanocrystals (ChNCs) are typically produced using a combination of strong acid hydrolysis and mechanical treatments. In this study, a mild, energy-efficient, and environmentally friendly method was developed to prepare a novel form of chitin nanocrystals called hairy chitin nanocrystals (HChNCs) without the need of any mechanical treatments. The HChNCs were made by sequential oxidations on partially deacetylated chitin, resulting in a unique morphology with chitin molecular chains protruding from central chitin nanorods.

The prevalence of obesity-associated kidney injury has increased, yet the precise extent of the injury and its underlying mechanisms remain unclear. This study used a Sprague-Dawley (SD) rat model to simulate human exposure scenarios, with the objective of investigating the involvement of mitochondria in obesity-induced renal toxicity. Biochemical analysis revealed significant increases in serum creatinine, cystatin C, urinary protein, urinary microalbumin, and urinary α1-microglobulin levels in rats fed a high-fat diet, indicating a notable decline in glomerular filtration function.
