The delicate construction of electrocatalysts with high catalytic activity is a strategic method to enhance the kinetics of lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs). Adjusting the local structure of the catalyst is always crucial for understanding the structure-activity relationship between atomic structure and catalyst performance. Here, in situ induction of electron-deficient B enables phase engineering MoC, realizing the transition from hexagonal (h-MoC) to cubic phase (c-B-MoC).

February 2025

School of Materials Science and Engineering, Xi'an Key Laboratory of Textile Composites, Xi'an Polytechnic University, Xi'an 710048, China.

To enhance the electrocatalytic performance of a flexible Pd@CFs catalyst for methanol oxidation, deep cryogenic treatment in liquid nitrogen was introduced. The effects of the frequency and time of the deep cryogenic treatment on the surface crystal orientation, microstructure morphology, mechanical performance, and electrocatalytic performance for methanol oxidation were studied. The results showed that when the frequency of the deep cryogenic treatment was 2 times and the deep cryogenic time was 24 h, the electrocatalytic performance of the catalyst was the best.

Exudate management and cell activity enhancement are vital to complicated wound healing. However, current exudate management dressings indiscriminately remove exudate, which is detrimental to cell activity enhancement. Herein, a novel class of electroactive bilayer (cMO/PVA) dressing is developed by constructing manganese oxide nanoneedle-clusters decorated commercial carbon cloth (MO), in situ casting polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) hydrogel, and finally charging.

Socioeconomic Inequalities in PM Exposure and Local Source Contributions at Community Scales Using Hyper-Localized Taxi-Based Mobile Monitoring in Xi'an, China.

Environ Sci Technol

March 2025

School of Environment, State Key Joint Laboratory of Environment Simulation and Pollution Control, Tsinghua University, Beijing 100084, P. R. China.

The relationship between the socioeconomic status (SES) and PM exposure is rather inconclusive. We employed taxi-based measurements with 30 m resolution to characterize PM exposure with local source contribution (PM adjusted concentration) discerned for 2019 winter and 2020 summer, in Xi'an. A big data set comprising ∼6 × 10 hourly PM measurements and SES data from ∼5000 communities was utilized to examine the socioeconomic inequalities in community-level PM exposure.

J Am Chem Soc

March 2025

State Key Laboratory of Inorganic Synthesis and Preparative Chemistry, College of Chemistry, International Center of Future Science, Jilin University, Changchun 130012, P. R. China.

The scientific community has been actively researching artificial photosynthesis to promote ecologically sustainable living and address environmental issues. However, designing photocatalysts with active sites that are effective for both CO reduction and water oxidation remains a significant challenge. Thus, we present the development of a donor-acceptor covalent organic framework (D-A COF), that integrates two distinct metal coordination environments through structure-activity relationships.

Efficient Metabolomics Profiling from Plasma Extracellular Vesicles Enables Accurate Diagnosis of Early Gastric Cancer.

J Am Chem Soc

March 2025

CAS Key Laboratory of Bio-Inspired Materials and Interfacial Science, Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100190, P. R. China.

Accurate diagnosis of early gastric cancer is valuable for asymptomatic populations, while current endoscopic examination combined with pathological tissue biopsy often encounters bottlenecks for early-stage cancer and causes pain to patients. Liquid biopsy shows promise for noninvasive diagnosis of early gastric cancer; however, it remains a challenge to achieve accurate diagnosis due to the lack of highly sensitive and specific biomarkers. Herein, we propose a protocol combining metabolomics profiling from plasma extracellular vesicles (EVs) and machine learning to identify the metabolomics discrepancies of early gastric cancer individuals from other populations.

Persulfate-based advanced oxidation processes (PS-AOPs) catalyzed by carbon-based catalysts are promising for removing organic pollutants via radical/non-radical pathways. However, the activation efficiency of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) or peroxydisulfate (PDS) usage and the reaction mechanism remain insufficiently understood. In this study, the effects of PMS/PDS dosage on the degradation of bisphenol A (BPA, 10 mg/L) were evaluated using N-doped biochar (N-BC, 0.

Leveraging Large Language Models for Predicting Postoperative Acute Kidney Injury in Elderly Patients.

BME Front

March 2025

Center for Intelligent Medical Equipment and Devices, Institute for innovative Medical Devices, School of Biomedical Engineering, Division of Life Sciences and Medicine, University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei, Anhui, P. R. China.

The objective of this work is to develop a framework based on large language models (LLMs) to predict postoperative acute kidney injury (AKI) outcomes in elderly patients. Our study demonstrates that LLMs have the potential to address the issues of poor generalization and weak interpretability commonly encountered in disease prediction using traditional machine learning (ML) models. AKI is a severe postoperative complication, especially in elderly patients with declining renal function.
