Biopolymers derived from natural resources are highly abundant, biodegradable, and biocompatible, making them promising candidates to replace non-renewable fossil fuels and mitigate environmental and health impacts. Nano-fibrous biopolymers possessing advantages of biopolymers entangle with each other through inter-/intra-molecular interactions, serving as ideal building blocks for gel construction. These biopolymer nanofibers often synergize with other nano-building blocks to enhance gels with desirable functions and eco-friendliness across various applications in biomedical, environmental, and energy sectors.

Background: Cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) is a debilitating condition that affects the cervical spine, leading to neurological impairments. While the neural mechanisms underlying CSM remain poorly understood, changes in brain network connectivity, particularly within the context of static and dynamic functional network connectivity (sFNC and dFNC), may provide valuable insights into disease pathophysiology. This study investigates brain-wide connectivity alterations in CSM patients using both sFNC and dFNC, combined with machine learning approaches, to explore their potential as biomarkers for disease classification and progression.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a prevalent arrhythmia closely associated with atrial fibrosis, posing significant challenges to cardiovascular health. Recent studies have identified the sodium-glucose co-transporter 1 (SGLT1) as a potential key player in the pathophysiology of heart diseases, particularly in the context of AF and atrial fibrosis. This review aims to synthesize current knowledge regarding the mechanisms by which SGLT1 influences the development of AF and atrial fibrosis, with a specific focus on its relationship with endothelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT).

Background: The binding of endothelin-1 (ET-1) to endothelin type A receptor (ETAR) performs a critical action in pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cell (PASMC) proliferation leading to pulmonary vascular structural remodeling. More evidence showed that cystathionine γ-lyase (CSE)-catalyzed endogenous hydrogen sulfide (HS) was involved in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases. In this study, we aimed to explore the effect of endogenous HS/CSE pathway on the ET-1/ETAR binding and its underlying mechanisms in the cellular and animal models of PASMC proliferation.

Bisphenol A (BPA), a common endocrine disrupting chemical (EDC), has shown detrimental effects on sperm quality and function in experimental models. However, epidemiological evidence is inconsistent and also there exists a notable lack of data on its analogues, such as bisphenol F (BPF) and bisphenol S (BPS). To investigate the relationships between BPA, BPF and BPS exposures and sperm DNA damage, we conducted a cross-sectional study recruiting 474 Chinese men from an infertility clinic in Wuhan, China.

As a significant emerging and re-emerging pathogen in China, the widely spread of Duck Tembusu virus (DTMUV) caused enormous economic losses to poultry industry. On account of DTMUV diseases' main symptoms on haemorrhagic oophoritis, intensive attentions were focused on female reproductive organ. Nevertheless, the DTMUV infection of sperm and testis manifested that testis was an important vector for vertical transmission of DTMUV.

The bromodomain-containing protein 4 (BRD4) is an epigenetic regulatory 'reader' belonging to the bromodomain and extra-terminal domain (BET) family. Several studies have demonstrated that the high expression of BRD4 is closely related to the occurrence and development of various cancers, so BRD4 has become a promising target for cancer treatment. However, there are no drugs targeting BRD4 available on the market, the development of novel BRD4 inhibitors is of great significance.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) represents a severe type of central nervous system damage, with no effective treatment currently available, partly due to neuronal ferroptosis and subsequent neuroinflammation. Punicalagin, an anti-inflammatory compound extracted from pomegranate peel, has exhibited therapeutic potential for inflammatory diseases. In this study, we present evidence that punicalagin facilitates the recovery of neurological function following SCI by mitigating neuronal ferroptosis.

Altering the electron distribution within a catalyst to manipulate internal charge migration pathways is an effective strategy for achieving high efficiency in carrier separation and migration, which is essential for the advancement of photocatalytic water oxidation technologies. We have employed atomic layer deposition (ALD) to construct a BiFeO/CuO (BFO/CuO) heterojunction with a specific CuO thickness, resulting in a Z-type junction (BFO/CuO50) characterized by a robust internal electric field. This junction facilitates the spatial separation of charge carriers, thereby enhancing their migration efficiency.

Water electrolysis represents a green and efficient strategy for hydrogen (H) production. However, the four-electron transfer process involved in its anodic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) half-reaction restricts the H generation rate. Employing hydrazine oxidation reaction (HzOR) as a substitute for OER in H generation can dramatically reduce energy consumption.

Copper is an essential trace element in biological systems, playing a key role in various physiological functions, including redox reactions and energy metabolism. However, an imbalance in copper homeostasis can induce oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and inhibition of the ubiquitin-proteasome system, ultimately leading to significant cytotoxicity and cell death. According to recent research, copper can bind to lipoylation sites on proteins involved in the tricarboxylic acid cycle, causing aggregation of lipoylated proteins, the loss of Fe-S cluster proteins, proteotoxic stress, and ultimately, cell death.

Cigarette smoke (CS) has detrimental effects on placental growth and embryo development, but the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. This study aims to investigate the impact of CS on trophoblast cell proliferation and regulated cell death (RCD) by examining its interference with iron-sulfur cluster (ISC) proteins and the CIA pathway. Exposure to CS disrupted the cytosolic ISC assembly (CIA) pathway, downregulated ISC proteins, and decreased ISC maturation in the placenta of rats exposed to passive smoking.

A new [DyBiOCl(saph)] () Werner-type cluster has been prepared, which is the first Dy/Bi polynuclear compound with no metal-metal bond and one of the very few Ln-Bi (Ln = lanthanide) heterometallic complexes reported to date. The molecular compound has been deliberately transformed to its 1-D analogue [DyBiO(N)(saph)] () via the replacement of the terminal Cl ions by end-to-end bridging N groups. The overall metallic skeleton of (and ) can be described as consisting of a diamagnetic {Bi} unit with an elongated trigonal bipyramidal topology, surrounded by a magnetic {Dy} equilateral triangle, which does not contain μ-oxo/hydroxo/alkoxo groups.
