January 2025

Department of Chemistry, Key Laboratory of Biomedical Functional Materials, School of Science, China Pharmaceutical University, Nanjing, 211198, P. R. China.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) involves persistent inflammation in the colon and rectum, with excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation. This ROS buildup damages colonic epithelial cells and disrupts intestinal flora, worsening disease progression. Current antioxidant therapies are limited due to their instability in the gut and lack of targeting, hindering precise intervention at the lesion site.

1D moisture-enabled electric generators (MEGs) hold great promise for powering electronic textiles, but their current limitations in power output and operational duration restrict their application in wearable technology. This study introduces a high-performance yarn-based moisture-enabled electric generator (YMEG), which comprises a carbon-fiber core, a cotton yarn active layer with a radial gradient of poly(4-styrensulfonic acid) and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PSSA/PVA), and an aluminum wire as the outer electrode. The unique design maintains a persistent moisture gradient between the interior and exterior electrodes, enhancing performance through the continuous proton diffusion from PSSA and Al⁺ ions from the aluminum wire.

Extending Exciton Diffusion Length via an Organic-Metal Platinum Complex Additive for High-Performance Thick-Film Organic Solar Cells.

Adv Mater

January 2025

Shandong Provincial Key Laboratory for Science of Material Creation and Energy Conversion, Institute of Frontier Chemistry, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Shandong University, Qingdao, 266237, P. R. China.

The long exciton diffusion length (L) plays an important role in promoting exciton dissociation, suppressing charge recombination, and improving the charge transport process, thereby improving the performance of organic solar cells (OSCs), especially in thick-film OSCs. However, the limited L hinders further improvement in device performance as the film thickness increases. Here, an organic-metal platinum complex, namely TTz-Pt, is synthesized and served as a solid additive into the D18-Cl:L8-BO system.

Adv Mater

January 2025

Nurturing Center of Jiangsu Province for State Laboratory of AI Imaging & Interventional Radiology (Southeast University), Department of Radiology, Zhongda Hospital, Medical School, Southeast University, 87 DingJiaQiao Road, Nanjing, 210009, P. R. China.

Immunogenic cell death (ICD)-mediated immunization strategies have great potential against breast cancer. However, traditional strategies neglect the increase in the immunosuppressive metabolite, adenosine (ADO), during ICD, leading to insufficient therapeutic outcomes. In this study, it is found that the adenosine A2A receptor (A2AR) is significantly expressed in breast cancer and positively associated with regulatory T (Treg) cells.

Effective modifications for the buried interface between self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) and perovskites are vital for the development of efficient, stable inverted perovskite solar cells (PSCs) and their tandem photovoltaics. Herein, an ionic-liquid-SAM hybrid strategy is developed to synergistically optimize the uniformity of SAMs and the crystallization of perovskites above. Specifically, an ionic liquid of 1-butyl-3-methyl-1H-imidazol-3-iumbis((trifluoromethyl)sulfonyl)amide (BMIMTFSI) is incorporated into the SAM solution, enabling reduced surface roughness, improved wettability, and a more evenly distributed surface potential of the SAM film.

Cell Commun Signal

January 2025

State Key Laboratory for Managing Biotic and Chemical Threats to the Quality and Safety of Agro-products, Ningbo University, Ningbo, 315211, China.

Autophagy is essential for maintaining material balance and energy circulation and plays a critical role as a regulatory mechanism in tissue regeneration. However, current studies primarily describe this phenotype, with limited exploration of its molecular mechanisms. In this study, we provided the first evidence that autophagy is required for intestinal regeneration in Apostichopus japonicus and identified a previously unrecognized regulatory mechanism involved in this process.

Background: First-line treatment for advanced gastric adenocarcinoma (GAC) with human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) is trastuzumab combined with chemotherapy. In clinical practice, HER2 positivity is identified through immunohistochemistry (IHC) or fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), whereas deep learning (DL) can predict HER2 status based on tumor histopathological features. However, it remains uncertain whether these deep learning-derived features can predict the efficacy of anti-HER2 therapy.

Uniform single-crystal mesoporous metal-organic frameworks.

Nat Chem

January 2025

Laboratory of Advanced Materials, Department of Chemistry, Shanghai Key Laboratory of Molecular Catalysis and Innovative Materials, State Key Laboratory of Molecular Engineering of Polymers, Collaborative Innovation Center of Chemistry for Energy Materials (2011-iChEM), College of Chemistry and Materials, Fudan University, Shanghai, P. R. China.

The synthesis of mesoporous metal-organic frameworks (meso-MOFs) is desirable as these materials can be used in various applications. However, owing to the imbalance in structural tension at the micro-scale (MOF crystallization) and the meso-scales (assembly of micelles with MOF subunits), the formation of single-crystal meso-MOFs is challenging. Here we report the preparation of uniform single-crystal meso-MOF nanoparticles with ordered mesopore channels in microporous frameworks with definite arrangements, through a cooperative assembly method co-mediated by strong and weak acids.

Algae- and bacteria-based biodegradation of phthalic acid esters towards the sustainable green solution.

World J Microbiol Biotechnol

January 2025

Institute of Biotechnology, College of Natural Sciences, University of Rzeszów, Pigonia 1 St, Rzeszow, 35-310, Poland.

Phthalic acid esters are widely used worldwide as plasticizers. The high consumption of phthalates in China makes it the world's largest plasticizer market. The lack of phthalic acid ester's chemical bonding with the polymer matrix facilitates their detachment from plastic products and subsequent release into the environment and causes serious threats to the health of living organisms.

Parasitic structure defect blights sustainability of cobalt-free single crystalline cathodes.

Nat Commun

January 2025

Chemical Sciences and Engineering Division, Argonne National Laboratory, Lemont, IL, USA.

Recent efforts to reduce battery costs and enhance sustainability have focused on eliminating Cobalt (Co) from cathode materials. While Co-free designs have shown notable success in polycrystalline cathodes, their impact on single crystalline (SC) cathodes remains less understood due to the significantly extended lithium diffusion pathways and the higher-temperature synthesis involved. Here, we reveal that removing Co from SC cathodes is structurally and electrochemically unfavorable, exhibiting unusual voltage fade behavior.
