Light emitting diodes (LED) are becoming the dominant lighting elements due to their efficiency. Optical camera communications (OCC), the branch of visible light communications (VLC) that uses video cameras as receivers, is a suitable candidate in facilitating the development of new communication solutions for the broader public because video cameras are available on almost any smartphone nowadays. Unfortunately, most OCC systems that have been proposed until now require either expensive and specialized high-frame-rate cameras as receivers, which are unavailable on smartphones, or they rely on the rolling shutter effect, being sensitive to camera movement and pointing direction, they produce light flicker when low-frame-rate cameras are used, or they must discern between more than two light intensity values, affecting the robustness of the decoding process.

Two sensors based on sulfur-doped graphene, a gold nanoparticle paste modified with 5,10,15,20-tetraphenyl-21H,23H-porphine and 5,10,15,20-tetrakis (pentafluorophenyl chloride)-21H,23H-iron (III) porphyrin, were proposed for the determination of R-limonene in beverages (triple sec liqueur and limoncello). Differential pulse voltammetry was the method used to characterize and validate the proposed sensors. The response characteristics showed that the detection limits for both sensors were 3 × 10 mol L, while the quantification limits were 1 × 10 mol L.

In this study, three types of extracts isolated from leaves of Plantain () were tested for their chemical content and biological activities. The three bioproducts are combinations of polysaccharides and polyphenols (flavonoids and iridoidic compounds), and they were tested for antioxidant, antifungal, antitumor, and prebiotic activity (particularly for polysaccharides fraction). Briefly, the iridoid-enriched fraction has revealed a pro-oxidant activity, while the flavonoid-enriched fraction had a high antioxidant potency; the polysaccharide fraction also indicated a pro-oxidant activity, explained by the co-presence of iridoid glycosides.

Stencil printing is the most crucial process in reflow soldering for the mass assembly of electronic circuits. This paper investigates different machine learning-based methods to predict the essential process characteristics of stencil printing: the area, thickness, and volume of deposited solder paste. The training dataset was obtained experimentally by varying the printing speed (from 20 to 120 mm/s), the size (area ratio from 0.

Motivation: Knowing the sensitivity of a viral strain versus a monoclonal antibody is of interest for HIV vaccine development and therapy. The HIV strains vary in their resistance to antibodies, and the accurate prediction of virus-antibody sensitivity can be used to find potent antibody combinations that broadly neutralize multiple and diverse HIV strains. Sensitivity prediction can be combined with other methods such as generative algorithms to design novel antibodies in silico or with feature selection to uncover the sites of interest in the sequence.

Arginine has an important role in the metabolomics of gastric cancer. Two 3D enantioselective needle stochastic sensors based on the physical immobilization of 2,3,7,8,12,13,17,18-octaethyl-21H,23H-porphine manganese(III) chloride (solution, 10 mol L) in graphene paste matrices decorated with N and S atoms were designed, characterized and validated for the enantioanalysis of arginine in whole blood and tissue samples. The signature values obtained for the enantiomers of arginine confirmed that the stochastic sensors are enantioselective.

In this study, three novel magnetic nanocomposites based on carboxyl-functionalized SBA-15 silica and magnetite nanoparticles were prepared through an effective and simple procedure and applied for methylene blue (MB) and malachite green G (MG) adsorption from single and binary solutions. Structure, composition, morphology, magnetic, and textural properties of the composites were thoroughly investigated. The influence of the amount of carboxyl functional groups on the physicochemical and adsorptive properties of the final materials was investigated.

Electromagnetic cooperative strategy has been presented as a mainstream approach that can effectively optimize the matching thickness of dielectric loss dominant system. However, it is still challenging for dielectric-magnetic loss coexisting-type absorber to develop electromagnetic wave (EMW) performance with ultra-low matching thickness (≤ 1 mm). Breaking the limitation of traditional electromagnetic response at microscopic/mesoscopic scale, a ficus microcarpa-like magnetic aerogel with macroscopical electromagnetic cooperative effect was fabricated through highly oriented self-assembly engineering.

Rail interlocking systems follow the progress of technology and train speeds. Nowadays, new systems are designed based on microcontrollers and reliable software, requiring many hours of testing to ensure their proper functionality and bug-free coding. However, in many countries, there are still older relay solutions implemented that are not envisaged to be upgraded in the near future partially due to costs but mainly due to the fact they function very well, being based on a highly reliable element: the relay.

The major cause of LBP is intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD), a complex disease that can further aggravate and give rise to severe spine problems. As most of the current treatments for IDD either only alleviate the associated symptoms or expose patients to the risk of intraoperative and postoperative complications, there is a pressing need to develop better therapeutic strategies.

The BBB in a healthy brain is a diffusion barrier that prevents most substances from passing from the blood to the brain; only tiny molecules can pass across the BBB. The BBB is disturbed in specific pathological illnesses such as stroke, diabetes, seizures, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, and Alzheimer's disease.

We propose an innovative delta-differencing algorithm that combines software-updating methods with LZ77 data compression. This software-updating method relates to server-side software that creates binary delta files and to client-side software that performs software-update installations. The proposed algorithm creates binary-differencing streams already compressed from an initial phase.

Accumulating data suggest that chronic neuroinflammation-mediated neurodegeneration is a significant contributing factor for progressive neuronal and glial cell death in age-related neurodegenerative pathology. Furthermore, it could be encountered as long-term consequences in some viral infections, including post-COVID-19 Parkinsonism-related chronic sequelae. The current systematic review is focused on a recent question aroused during the pandemic's successive waves: are there post-SARS-CoV-2 immune-mediated reactions responsible for promoting neurodegeneration? Does the host's dysregulated immune counter-offensive contribute to the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases, emerging as Parkinson's disease, in a complex interrelation between genetic and epigenetic risk factors? A synthetic and systematic literature review was accomplished based on the "Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Principles Reviews and Meta-Analyses" (PRISMA) methodology, including registration on the specific online platform: International prospective register of systematic reviews-PROSPERO, no.
